I worked at a local convenience store while the movie was filming. People on day shift told me Patrick Wilson came by at least twice a week, but i never got to see him. Loved him in Watchmen.
I’m in the big stone area at least once a week. When I go to Cumberland gap I turn in town go that way. Also the way I travel to the Smokies. Beautiful scenery.
Maybe I was living under a rock but I never heard of the movie or the book and I've never heard of the town. But it sure is beautiful there and I would love to see it. Hope you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving.
I really like the video. I’m there all the time. You done a great job showing the beauty of these mountains. I’m not sure if you was aware, just 15 minutes from there in Pound, va is the hometown of U2 pilot of Francis Gary Powers. It’s on US 23 just before you cross into Kentucky. I can’t wait to see more videos of my home area.
A Side of the future Passed...... In 1978, Governor Linwood Hilton and John Warner would meet in contest at the Virginia State Republican Convention in Richmond VA. Six Candidates were vieing for the US Senator Nomination. They included two of the top Republican General Assembly members plus two of the best known Republicans from top GOP Families. It would go to nine Ballots and 2:30 am, over 16 hours for Warner to become the Republican Nominee. A very wild time. Note, at one Roll call vote I cast 17.4 delegate votes, we operated under the full unit rule, we Approved 240 delegates for our local jurisdiction, but if only say five people voted, we cast all 54 votes. One of the few modern instances where the old style National Political Conventions ran as history has recorded them (one National convention went to 132 rollcall votes).
You got Stoned at Big Stone 🪨 Knew Governor Holton well my family worked in his Campaign. Mom, Mildred, was the Coordinator during the Campaign, back then land line phones were all you had, she spent a year always next to a phone, she was the one person that anyone in the Effort could get to and and she always knew where everyone else was. Anywhere in the State. At The Inaugural Reception in the Virginia Governor's House. In the Reception Line..... Linwood asked her what job she wanted........he said that any job was hers, he could not have won without her Efforts. She said Nothing just do a good Job in office. Later During the afternoon, he Stopped and said their must be something he could do as Governor...... Mildred said OK, then she wanted US Route 100 four laned through all of Giles County. Linwood went ... OH MY! That being done in one four year term was...Not Possible ! But he did place it on the Governor's Special Priority List. Which continues after each Governor's Service, today it is almost done all the way from the West Virginia Boarder to Pulaski and I-81. But it does come with Negatives attached. . . . Staffordsville, Virginia was her hometown and where she spent her first 21 years. Because of the Walker Creek which runs along much of US 100, The only place two long Bridges (four lanes) for the new route was sited; was to totally take the Hamlet., bulldozed and paved over, with a parking lot as the old song says ...... (Paved Paradise and put UP a Parking Lot) The Second option was to take out The Methodist Church and Grave Yard dating back into the 1700s, Mildred's resting place Today. You pay in many ways......

I love Patrick Wilson, he is truly a nice guy. I am more of a fan of his wife, Dagmara Domińczyk, she plays Elizabeth Taylor in the movie too.
Fascinating video! I have never heard of that area before. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it 😁🙌🏻

Hey thanks for showing my home town.
Thank you for watching. We loved visiting.
I was in the play for several years, in the sixties.I grew up there.
How cool!!!
Great video but the Senator was John Warner. I grew up down the street, as it were, in Woodlawn, Va.
Jack is sometimes used as a nick name for John…you are correct though. His given name is John. Thank you for watching! You live in a lovely area. 😊
I'm from the area, grew up about 15 min from Big Stone
Such a beautiful area. You are very lucky. 😊
