  • Off to the desert with the British Forces in Combat Mission Shock Force 2! This is a playthrough of the Desert Lancers scenario against the AI.
You can pick up the demo here: community.battlefront.com/topi...
and can find details and info on the base game and its modules here: www.battlefront.com/shock-for...
This is with the excellent HQS Sound Mod, but otherwise unmodded.
    In Battlefront's own words:
"Combat Mission Shock Force 2 finally updates the ground breaking Shock Force 1 game setting to the current Game Engine 4 environment. Due to massive changes over the last 10 years of Combat Mission development the updating and upgrading of the original content to current standards was no small task. Most of the 3D models had to be rebuilt, reskinned, and reintegrated into brand new TO&E coding. All original scenarios and campaign games had to be checked out, tweaked, and generally improved so they retained the balance and excitement of the originals. Fans of the original game will find that this is much, much more than a new coat of paint."
"Take command of US Stryker Brigade Combat Teams (SBCT) and Heavy Brigade Combat Teams (HBCT) to fight against Syrian Army Infantry, Mechanized and Armored units in an arid setting. Experience the full range of modern threats to conventional military forces, including irregular combat forces, terrorists, spies, suicide bombers, IED's and other deadly tools employed in the asymmetric warfare of the modern day. Play the Task Force Thunder campaign, more than a dozen carefully crafted battles, or unlimited Quick Battles."

Great stuff. I will admit that I'm not as into the modern CM games as I am the WW2 era, however as a former Challenger crewman it is great to see the Brits in action. The uniform and vehicle details are bang on.

Its so refreshing to see someone play this that actually knows what they are doing, I think you did that pretty damn perfectly

Bro I like what you have and did here. No watching hours upon hours of gameplay because let's be honest, while CM:SF is great fun, it can be tediously slow to watch and play. You, however, have compressed what probably took an hour or three of gameplay into a bite-sized chunk which I very much appreciate.

Thanks man! There's certainly more in the pipeline. I want to do at least one of these for each faction.

now that's quality contet :) I remember this scenario from a while back when the module just came out. I must say, If instead of AT-4As there would be a couple of AT-14, then this scenario like many others that involved those missiles would have been a completly different story in terms of challange.

    • @usuallyhapless9481

Cheers man! I did a quick dirty QB to check and the AT14 doesn't penetrate the frontal turret armour of the Challenger 2... it does a lot of subsystem damage, but its not getting through. That's a surprise after seeing how the AT14 performs in Black Sea, but I assume that the Syrians are using a 2008 export version of the missile and its not the same as the one the Russians have in Black Sea. Would make it a bit more challenging, but I think that CMSF Redfor don't have any magic bullets for NATO armour, they have to get them into dense terrain and hit the sides and rear.

your welcome. strangely, my experience is completely opposite; in CMBS kornets have a hard time against the frontal aspect of the abrams (which is SEP V2 I believe) let alone the APS equipped ones which make redfor ATGMs obsolete. Furthermore, ukriane has much more foliage which provides cover and concealment for vehicles. In cmsf However, your only cover is the natural curves and reverse slopes of the ground and the most of the blueforce tanks are at least disabled when it by AT14 even from the front.

Hey Hap! Your editing and narration are just wonderful! In my book, you are the best Combat Mission UA-camr around. :D
Must be something with you Brits... the best UA-camr for Forged Alliance Forever is also a British guy his channel is called 'Gyle Cast'.
I played this scenario because of your video and enjoyed it very much. I use to be a bit more cautious in moving-to-contact which led to me losing just one lad. Aside from that your tactical analysis is spot-on so I went with much the same plan as you and it also played out much the same.
The scenario reminds me very much of the first mission of the 'Task Force thunder' campaign which is in a similar context and tactical situation.

One of the best video AAR's styles I have seen with the game Usually Hapless, and I have been playing it since its beginnings. Excellent camera, editing, and narrative! Really shows off the game in an interesting and entertaining way. GREAT JOB!

Can't wait for a campaign with similar editing, you should try something unique like the Canadian single player campaign and see how you find it.

Good combined arms operation - seems a weird mix though would have thought a Combat Team would be a better structure than this 2/3s of a Combat Team, but I guess you go with what you have. :)

Sure but 2/3rds of a Tank Tp? Is the Troop Leader off having a brew somewhere? Just seems to be a C2 nightmare. :)

Wouldn't it be more of a challenge to let the AI play the NATO forces? These missions tend to be a bit of a boring turkey shoot otherwise.

08jag80 this game is not about the graphics, it is about the mechanics and systems, it is the most complex and accurate depiction of a real time, modern warfare, birds eye command game.
However, the textures do look amasing, Yes it is Build on a outdated engine, with again, not graphics in mind.
Sometimes the best games are not the game with triple A quality graphics ☺️

    • @08jag81

@@TheSaintArmando CMX1 looks better, in regards to terrain and smoke. It's funny they way upgraded the soldiers and vehicles (turning wheels etc.) and went backwards with terrain and some effects with CMX2. When a road sharply zig zags every 20ft, it takes away from the game.

    • @TheSaintArmando
      @TheSaintArmando 5 років тому

08jag80 I agree, If They are able to do anything about the terrain “zig zag roads” then I also say, do it.
However I think they are not able to? I mean, If they can, why would They put it like this, Or Maybe it is a custom map?
I am not sure, But Yes again , if They are able to change terrain, particles like smoke Or dust and other things, But They don’t, then shame on them.
But I have a feeling it is linked to engine limitations, this game is Build upon a more then 10 year old foundation, I believe They never realy upgraded it from scratch.
      Could be totaly wrong though.
