Add an extension to your bungee cords to release that taughtness. I just bought this same underquilt and will be trying this very suggestion ( always carry extra line while hammock camping)

Thanks a lot! This was the most useful review, especially the part where you explained the "forced" uncomfortable sleeping position!
I guess I have to buy the moonquilt...

Thank you for the review and your observation about how it squeezes you in. Whenever I saw the photos online of this product, I always got the same feeling.... it just looks too snug. It wraps around and doesn't seem to be leaving an air pocket underneath your hammock, where you can have a trapped pocket of air. That combined with the issues trying to have a diagonal lay in the hammock gives me pause. Much appreciated.

When laying asymmetrical in the hammock, just pull the under quilt over to one side. The under quilt should not be putting any pressure on you.

I believe that's the night protector... Onetigris makes one called the twilight trekker, its what's I have, and it gives much more room allowing diagonal lay.

Would like to know more as I am about to purchase a onetigris hammock + UQ. How is the diagonal lay in the "twilight trekker" model ?

@@JfrancoisRicard The winter trekker is good down to 23° F I believe and I've taken it down to the teens using in conjuction with a foam sleeping pad. I stayed plenty warm.

@@samuelpalmquist2190 Thats reassuring! I am mainly planning on using this for a backpacking trip with the girlfriend, this summer. I don't ever expect the temperature to drop below 40-50F.

They make a double hammock under quilt that would fix that issue.

I got a down duvet and put in two rows of small 6mm grommets on the foot and head ends, ran a set of paracord lines (with taut line hitches for ajustability) and I dyed it with these washing machine colors in dark brown and boom, a 35 euro under quilt which can stand very cold winter weather...

I used the onetigris under quilt last night on my Hennessy, the under quilt seems it's for a youth hammock, really awkward for a-semetrical, but stayed warm

Agreed. Always lie on the diagonal if you want to lay flat. Great on the knees.

  • @thriftysurvivor6117

Great video. By the way, if you roll up your jacket or something and place it under your knees, you can lay in symmetrical position and be comfortable. It's never been a problem for me.

    • @offgridwarrior
      @offgridwarrior  6 років тому +1

That's what I thought... And doing so did alleviate some of the tension on the hammock walls but unfortunately the width of the underquilt still forces a BANANA position when weighted. Thanks for your comment krogkortet.

I saw a modification where you attach a loop of webbing to the edge of the quilt and use a mini karabiner to attach that to the side tie-outs for the hammock. That should alleviate the problem.

I dont know what the price talk is about with underquilts..
when you buy a lightweight down sleeping bag you pay more too than for a synthetic fiber cheap one.
It's the same thing in life always: you get what you pay for.
funfact - the onetigris is a cheap chinese underquilt. you can find it unbranded on aliexpress for about 30$
