I'm glad you showed the loop knot for a replacement to the bolan for securing to the tree. I worked for a tent company for 3 years and that's all we used to secure our expensive 1000lb+ tents. Its incredibly simple. Incredibly effective. Noone ever shows it.

I had the same problems with the hennesy hammocks set up. I added a bowline knot at each end that I connected carabiners to and then bought a separate straps (similar to eno's) to hook them to. Works great.

Great Vid. A little trick on where to put your trucker loop is always to your outside shoulder or one arms length away from the tree. Has served me well for years. Also when hanking put your loop between your ring and middle finger. I have found out by accident that doing this keeps the loop out of the way in a hurry up situation like raining. LOL
All your fraying cord ends are driving me crazy, but those are a great set of knots and I like that you include practical applications for each one in addition to a detailed demonstration of how to tie them. 🙂
I made my own straps from old seatbelts. Strong, a little wider which is better for the tree. And it's long enough for larger trees than the one you've got there. Just use thick and strong thread to sew the loops, and it's all good😊👍

Hammock Camping is the only way to go! After a back injury I thought I would never be able to enjoy camping again as it was incredible painful to sleep on the ground. Knots are my Kryptonite. Ive heard that loop called a marlin spike hitch. i now use it on all of my stakes.! I modified my Hennessy setup. I bought super-light python tree straps and used the Stock ropes to tie to carabiners. Works great. Great vid
For "fine" adjustment on the ENO strap, could you run a line between the first two attachment points and draw those together to get your "perfect" distance?

For picking a hammock camp site; how far apart is ideal for the anchor trees that should be used to install the hammock, to retain concealment, and wind, and the ages/thickness of trees?
I store my ridge line with the prusick knots on to make for a faster setup which makes it bulkier, And so to pass all that on a loop isn't practical. So the knot I prefer to tie on the first tree where I'm anchoring the ridge line is the Siberian hitch.

Since you brought it up in your video, the knot you were unsure about and called a "loop with a bight" is a normal slip knot commonly used for the ridgeline trucker's hitch.
and if you put a toggle in there instead of tightening on the bight, it would be a marlinspike hitch - which is one of the most useful knots around on it's own and because it can be the basis of so many others.
The best hammock tying: take paracord and make a prusic knot on the tree strap (same as he did for the tarp). Use a toggle to attach the hammock to it. The prusic can stay there permanently. Super easy and fully adjustable
This is exactly what I was looking for. I am clueless on this subject and *knot* afraid to admit it. But it's *knot* something I want to avoid learning. Sometimes I walk through the woods picking up lot's of forget me *knots* But all jokes aside thank you!!! Comment on the tautline hitch. There are three variants, Ashley 1855, 1856, 1857. 1855 crosses wrap 2 over wrap one to lock it. 1856 doesn’t cross 2 over 1, but wrap 3 is in the same direction as 1 and 2, and is likely the most common variant, and is what most Boy Scouts learn. Your wrap 3 went the opposite direction as 1 and 2, and is the third version.
Not a Bite, it's a Bight. A Bow Line knot was used to hold a square sail into the wind, it's the line to the bow of the ship. Very good instruction though, not to fast paces, and very clear. I know most of them and use them a lot. However I do not favor using cord for hammock suspension as some do. It is much to likely to injure the tree.
What kind of rope did you use for the ridge line? I thought you said paracord at some point but I’ve heard that paracord is a bad idea because it stretches and sags easily....
It is a marline hitch. It's is one of the starting points of all knots, depending on what next steps are taken. Run the running end through the marline loop, pull on the standing end, it will collapse into a bowline.
New to hammocks but not to knots. 9:23 is a slip knot. 2 half hitches in sequence in the same direction is a clove hitch. 2 opposing half hitches in sequence are a girth hitch.
Thanks for the excellent knots class. But you're presuming making the ridgeline repetitively harder than necessary IMHO. The Warbonnet Blackbird comes with a fixed ridgeline installed inside (as any other hammock could also). From there I evolved it adding a steel ring on each end (outside the bug tent tensioned by the ridgeline) as attachment points for ridgeline & hammock & rain fly, so each piece (hammock, bug tent, ridgeline, rain fly) is always at its best length & tension relative to every other, & nothing ever needs retying, & retensioning any individual component is still simple though never needed. Add to that on each end a web cargo strap with ratcheting tensioner as 'tree straps', and there is a simple system that almost never needs adjustment.
Here's a little tip to make the truckers hitch hold better while you tie it. Wrap your working end around your loop an extra time. It will grip better while you tie a half hitch and pulls out easily.

You tied the taut-line hitch wrong. If you start over the line (which you did), then 2nd line also over, and then 3rd over the line as well outside the loop. You went over, over, and then under.
A taut line hitch is a safety knot that tree trimmers use to go up and down the trees. I don't like it because it binds up too tight more than a blakes hitch which is my choice safety not.
Michael, Arborists one of a dozen variations of a Prusik knots on their Rope Wrench to go up and down trees... or a mechanical replacement like the Rope Runner Pro, Akimbo or ZigZag.

Look into Dutchware, easy to use hardware has made knots unnecessary, if you choose that route.

Quick release bowline knot + farrimond friction hitch + prusik knot = all you need for fast set up and fast set down.

Nice explanation video. As others have said it's bight, not bite. The knot around 10 minutes that you didn't know the name to, it's a slip knot.

Tyler Mazza you might have to retension it occasionally but Paracord totally works.
I definitely prefer “zing it” (Samson amsteel) over para for just about everything.
What style of music would you call the backing track?
