Can you please make a "how to make a website for your art" tutorial?
Hi! What if they don't like my art? Will I still get paid for my time? Also if I'm doing digital art, how do I give it to them and make sure they don't claim it as their own? I just want to do commissions of characters weather they're ocs or characters that are from games and anime. I also want to start my own UA-cam sometime soon, but I'd like to do art commissions too.
I appreciate you so much
Andrea Cashoili I recommend putting a watermark on your art, it helps to prevent art theft! Also you can DM them on the social media platform you are using to send it to them
@@wondering.why.
Okay, thank you, but what if they don't like it? Will I still get paid for my time? Also, how do I get paid by them and make sure they pay?
As someone who has commissioned dozens of pieces of art here is one piece of advice. Take every commission seriously and communicate clearly. Let me give you an example. I dipped my toe in trying out various artists. Who got the repeat business? The one who gave me a clear timeline and achieved those goals. They were not the cheapest or the fastest or even the most high profile, they demonstrated they cared and I felt like I was there top priority. I was so impressed I went back to them and received the same excellent service. So I went back, and back, and back. Every single time she delivered terrific art at a fair price in relatively timely fashion. Sometimes there was a queue and had to wait which was relayed to me. One time she got sick. This was always explained in clear, honest matter.
The lesson? Attracting new commissions can be hard at no fault of your own. There are thousands of artists and can get lost in the shuffle. Making commissions happy and potentially getting multiple repeat business is within your power. Serious commissions will happily pay extra to have a great experience.
This is great ❤️ Thank you for sharing these experiences ✨🙌
Fact :(
I am the 420th like
Do you know how can I send the art I made? I want to do digital commission but I don't know how send the art, is by email? (Sorry bad English)
@@mainone8918 Send it by email, discord, or give a link to your client to your deviantart sta.sh after uploading it there
I hate it so much when people say "your prices are too high" even if you see the quality of the drawing as bad and "not worth it" then dont commission them. Just keep in mind it takes that person time and they are getting paid for there time as well as the materials.
I wouldnt complain about that to someone but what other way can anyonr know if their pricing is not right without being rude? Or a polite way to ask someone why their pricing is like that (maybe curiosity and usually I'll understand the reason why after explanation) for me if I really did overprice something, I'd like to know but how to do so in a polite way
@@kittenmimi5326 usually you price by the time it takes you to draw it by the minimum wage (or higher depending on how much you want to get paid an hour) but if you're popular and more in demand some will boost the price. that's fine and expected. if you follow that formula you'll have a fair price. the boosting the price on popularity is something harder as you'll only tell if its right if people are still paying for your art and see it as worth the price.
Their*
Noboby's gonna kill them, but they still hate :)
@Ghostly no really NOT, I do the same
I commissioned an artist and I got the silent treatment for 3 weeks... when they finally replied I joked saying “oh I thought you scammed me xD” then they called me rude. Okay then...
Well.... The one who was rude was them by not letting you know?
sumiko mak xze xin I said “haha” and “xD”
maybe the xd scared them away
KrioThea did you get your finished commission tho?
I was going to commission someone for a UA-cam banner and told then info and my payment info and they said sure and I was like uh ok? Then I said alright meaning what other info do u need and they never replied
the only thing stopping me from making commissions is the fear of my art failing or people not liking my art and prices :((
same :d
Bruh, same😭
I’m similar, though my issue is putting myself out there digitally in general (art-wise). I’ve once sold a piece in-person in a local small gallery that helped me with some confidence, but as soon as there’s the potential for a larger audience, I get scared of putting myself and my art out publicly… 0_0
Exactlyy
I don't think that's something to think about cause 1. They saw how your artstyle is 2. You showed the prices and 3. It was their decision to buy from you, so they already know what they're getting :]
Another tip: Make sure you throw a watermark on each thing you send to the client during the process! Just to make sure they don't try claiming they made it!
What do you mean? Online arbitrage?
@@viharsarok a signature ^^
I have an issue where I absolutely think my art is good enough to charge for, but I don't have the social media clout or reach to showcase it to an audience. I post to deviantart and artstation but all I got was crickets,
I recently got a commission request from a friend and that was real exciting. I just envy the people who built an online artist profile early 😣
This is kinda late, but if you use a platform such as Discord, you may be able to get commissions easily
Try twitter too
@@Mizhikou hello, I've never done comissions before, but I'd like to try 🙏 what do you meant by "be careful"? What are some things I meed to be careful of that you can give me as an example? It would be really helpful to know, thank you in any case! 🙏
@@novaexx6587 This is much late, but since the other person didn't reply, I'm guessing they mean clients who aren't serious, don't hold up to the end of their deal -- basically, they don't pay you. You might want to do a 50-50 payment system, where they pay 50% upfront and give the final 50% when you give them your final work (once you establish a rep, you might be able to get the payment upfront; if you have no rep you might have to ask for it later -- these are all good causes for also using a trustable third-party system who can verify the trust of your transaction, so you can worry less about these details). Or, if you're young, it's also a concern to keep personal details out of the way when going on a less formal place like Reddit where anyone can say anything and it's very easy to access and find. Being careful means to take some caution in vetting out the other person, their seriousness about purchasing your art, what they're really about and their intentions (if they start asking personal details, that could be a flag), and stuff like that.
But mostly, I think, it's about the money. Odds are if you get serious about taking commissions, you'll run into trouble with payments at some point. If you don't put too much money into the deals, though, it could be very good learning experience for starting out especially, so that you can learn how to calmly and reasonably deal with more difficult people or people who are having a bad day.
Use Instagram, Debian art is kinda dead
Thank you so much! It's helping me alot c: The only thing I didn't like was the part where you explained why your fullbody costs 175+ $. You dont have to explaint it or even defend yourself in some way. 175 $ is a low price for such quality work! ^-^
You are indeed really sweet ❤️ it was mostly to break down my prices because a lot of people don't think about the fact, that you can rarely put 100% of the price down in your own pocket. But I agree, I shouldn't need to defend my prices :3 (even if I do so a little here too) but I find myself doing it too often nontheless xD its sad that almost all commissions posts I see on IG has comments turned off because there always are those few ranting over the pricing >
CRYBABY If you consider the time spent on the actual piece (12+ hours), all the meetings with the clients to get the result they want (2+ hours), all the materials used (either traditional art materials like brushes, colors and so on. Or with digital art you have to buy a graphic tablet, pay for drawing programs, licenses like the photoshop license that is expensive), all the time you spent to achieve the skill of creating quality artworks (many many years of practice) and the taxes you have to pay.... then 175$ is not alot, it‘s not even near to minimum wage.
I don't know how to talk to them and how to ask for money and others please help if u can
@@TheBeastBoyGamer right i get kind of anxiety when I explain the price because i fear they're goanna think it's too high and won't accept.

@@pogz1 just giving a quick look at your thumbnails (didn’t watch any videos) seems like you lack the understanding of the fundamentals. Instead of jumping into finished pieces, try to understand how to draw 3D objects and how to draw them in different angles. When you draw, you’re trying to trick the eye into thinking that what it’s seeing is 3D. So when you put lighting on something you understand where to put the light because you know which planes of the 3D object is facing your light source. I know that sounds confusing so you should look up videos about it. You also try to jump into color without understanding it which leads
@@pogz1 to bland colors. Paint in greyscale. It will force you to understand contrast, which you should really push. And then you have to study colors and how those contrast and work with each other.
@@pogz1 I know it sucks because you won’t be making finished pieces, but understanding the foundation of 3D objects, how they hit light, contrast and color will boost your art quicker than just trying to draw pieces over and over without trying to learn from it.

What I'm worried is about when people judge that you are a self-taught artist and not worth it compared to professional artists... 😭
Agreed I am personally a self-taught artist, but what I figured out in the art industry a lot of people like self taught artist because their art is original and has its own style and people rather that then have to have a style same to another artist style.
Most people mostly care about the artwork shown than a title. As long your product looks good people wouldnt judge at all. No one asks if you went to art school or not.
Majority of artists i seen are self taught!
I don't care. I'll just give you a test project and judge you by the quality.
i wanna start commisions because i wanna save for a switch lite and new horizons!

That flamingo is so cute!
The only problem that stops me from starting an commission art is that how inconsistent my artstyle is. Mostly people with commission sheets has different artstyle options or just one artstyle.Mine is just different every work. It still goes around semi-realism but every drawing I do always looks so different 🥲
samee
i know im a year late but you could possibly do experimental commissions. so that people who commission u will know to expect any style
I'm very late, but I feel like if you do like the comment above said people will commission you more! This is because if you can change your artstyle like that people can go to you for more drawings, because you have more styles! ^^
My problem is I don’t have the stamina or strength to draw multiple times ;-;
But I think this will motivate you!
Maybe you should improve on your overall techniques? Like brushstrokes, shortcuts, etc
I really wanna start doing commissions esp now with this pandemic. I really want to help my mom, her job only pays like $3/day 🥺 but i only have like 70 followers on ig and i don't think my art is okay to open commissions :

I know you gave permission to copy your terms of conditions but I just wanted to let you know that I copied it, some word to word. I had no idea where to go when it came to setting up my info page and this helped a lot. Thank you so much!
