The community is what I miss the most. I don't think disbanding lobbies is responsible for the demise of the community though. I feel like the community died years ago when we split off into fans of Treyarch and fans of IW. After years of relative consistency from one CoD to the next we entered the Advanced movement era where what you got fro. One CoD to next was anyone's guess. You'd get used to one thing only to have it removed the next year and then return a year after that. It's ridiculous

Me personally, I liked how in black ops 1 you had like a cod money system and you just bought what you wanted and could afford at the time. Camos also were paid for buy this money system and you could even buy a gold camo for more. However if you wanted to unlock a pro version of a perk you had to do challenges. super simple and casual. Also when you prestige you keep your money but everything else resets. My fav system by far.

Yep. I really hate how camos work in newer cods. Forcing us to grind with guns we really don't want to be using and some of the camo challenges are outright ridiculous. @@charizard9735 there is a reason they are called mastery camos... it's not for everyone, if it would be easy to get them then that would make no sense, and if you complain about playing with every weapon then you are just complete dogshit, cause the whole point is in enjoying the full game using everything it has to offer, not just playing the same weapon the whole time and then pretending you are some awesome pro player just cause you have a camo wich you paid for with cod points or earned by using the best weapon in the game all the time.
Thats why the modern camo system is superior cause it actually needs you to show off your skill in every aspect of the game, not just camping with the best rifle.

I think the older CoD’s charm was much more than just nostalgia. I would gladly take back some of the inconsistencies the older games had (migrating hosts/balance issues/OP killstreaks) over the crushingly anti-player consistencies these newer games have (Strict SBMM/seasons/focus on metrics over actual player feedback). The difference between the old CoDs and new CoDs is that the stuff that pissed us off in the older CoDs were all honest mistakes/oversights by developers who actually cared about making the best possible game in-spite of the technical limitations of the time period, where as the stuff that piss us off in these new ones are completely by design and the ones that are legitimate oversights often don’t even get addressed in a timely manner, DESPITE the fact that patches nowadays are the norm.

    • @LittleBigBwner
      @LittleBigBwner 2 роки тому +22

Very good point all around - but what I wanted to throw in was, I honestly started to to not mind host migrations as much after a while because it was almost always someone rage quitting and it was hilarious when you'd kill someone, only for a host migration to all of a sudden happen shortly after. Oh and also now, when the store has a bug? - INSTANT FIX - game has a bug? - we'll say we're working on it and eventually add a fix but only during a major update because we're really working on more microtransactions

Industry yes but community no. There were still people uploading best class setups, line of sight videos, capture point videos, glitch videos etc. The MW2 OMA spam really took off because Wings uploaded a video requesting it to be patched to Machinima. Videos showing how to do the care package glitch, derail elevator, javelin glitch etc. The community has always been full of "tryhards" but you didn't notice it as much because they weren't being forced into your games. There was like a 85% chance any lobby you got into in BO1 was going to have a bunch of people running Ghost, Second Chance and a FAMAS or AK-74u with rapid fire. MW2 was filled with people just running SoH, Stopping Power and Ninja. This stuff didn't just happen by chance.

Take out SBMM and up the ttk a bit and MW2 would feel the most like an older COD imo. The SBMM has taken out some of the craziness from older lobbies. In the more recent, the speed seemed to be turbo boosted faster than older CODs. MW2 feels a click slower in pacing but with the removal of slide cancelling, if they did away with SBMM it would feel much more like older CODs. I don't hate SBMM but it can make the game more tedious than it's worth at times. I think nostalgia is almost as strong of a drug as an actual one because everyone only remembers the good stuff while forgetting the stuff that was bitched about for the respective games.

  • @mlaird1986

The nostalgia is there because older titles were better. Maps were better, connection was prioritized, and most importantly developers listened to the fans. They have destroyed the social aspect of the game with sbmm, lobby splitting, and removal of scoreboards. I remember playing BO3 and running into some of my favorite youtubers at the time. The majority of my friends on console are from previous cod games. Making friends on COD is a thing of the past because of the disbanding of lobbies.

Black Ops 3 completely changed CoD because it introduced something that fuels all of Activision's MTX schemes; FOMO. Fear of missing out. The idea of turning the game into a second job to "earn" stuff, getting people to play with others with the weapon bribe victories and having items that may never appear again earned them a LOT of money, and also, caused a lot of stress. It also had an aggressive SBMM that people forget about since it's been so long.

I’m late to the party on this but I genuinely think it was because both IW and Treyarch started their own franchise from Cod 4 being the start of MW and WAW being the start of the Black Ops franchises. From 2007 to 2012 we stuck within those two, we were used to the story lines and the way the games played. in 2013, IW had to start over, create a new franchise, and IMO i think they did a great job with Ghosts. Campaign was great, very very simple but great. I for one, loved multiplayer but I know the majority didn’t, mostly I think because it was a big change in kill streaks, guns, and maps. After that, Sledgehammer comes into the fold with AW, another NEW game with even more changes. Was received… okay? I guess? but again it was another new franchise that everyone had to get used to. People don’t like change, we love nostalgia and having to say goodbye to MW and Black Ops at the time for 2-3 years until BO3, which was received WELL. We all loved that game because we knew black ops. I think it was just the fact that newer CODs never were given a chance to build a franchise because of all the history it was built upon

OG Infinity Ward knew what they were doing. Current IW is still the better CoD studio IMO. My question is; why did they never continue with releasing remastered CoDs? I absolutely LOVED playing the remastered CoD4 (aside from the addition of loot boxes). Then the MW2 remaster leaked on some foreign retail website and there was an uproar about them selling campaign and multiplayer separately? I figure it will never be released now since they don’t want any thunder stolen from the MW reboot/remake. Still, very sad.

Ultimately if a person likes a game and enjoys playing it then who actually cares what anyone else thinks? That includes so called "infulencers", streamers, professional players, content creators, etc. Play whatever you like and play it however you like. Order cods the devs had more budget to make content. New cods they pull devs away from map design and side modes in order to have them code monetization features like battle pass cosmetics, dances for characters to do, then they gotta design a win screen where your character is visible so people want to purchase the cosmetics in the first place etc etc. it pulls away from dev time but brings in more profit. Only reason older cods didn’t have this is because game studios didn’t yet know that this model was in Super profitable. Back then the games profit model was to be fun so people would buy the game and the dlc, not spend money on micro transactions because they had none. Just my 2 cents

I'll never have the same experiences WaW and BO1-BO3 gave me, same with MW2 and MW3 and I acknowledge that. But I just never thought that these newer CODs would be so far off from them. Maybe certain factors can change that, as well. Like it's no longer me coming home from school and playing a Campaign mission or 2 then switching to MP with friends; Friends who are now super busy with jobs. But at the same time the experiences I would have playing MP solo back then are far different than now. Now I maybe play 3 games by myself before being worn out from the frustration with how the new ones play, meanwhile back in the day I could play for hours by myself. I definitely believe with the rise of people trying to be COD UA-camrs and Streamers, and Esports too, it definitely made the games 10x sweatier and it shows, not just cause of SBMM either but that certainly really throws it in your face more than ever. It's really hard to play casually anymore because every pub game is filled with people playing in an imaginary million dollar tournament or there are kids trying to get their next 30 kill-streak gameplay footage for their 57 subscriber channel. It just won't ever be the same, not even close. You can accept that and still play it for what it is, or accept it and move on. That's the best course of action rather than trying to force it to bring back the good old days.

To be honest, it is the matchmaking that makes the games frustrating, the new mw2 is good, i like it but cant have fun most of the times as every lobby feels too competitive. Thats why i only play ranked now, if every lobby feels like a league match than at least im playing it without the broken stuff.

To me I liked Black Ops 4 the most(I started WW2). I liked that characters had different abilities. Also think we all agree we preferred the old match making. Then I could get stopped then have a 20kd game. Now every round is fairly similar.
Also the servers suck. MW2 for me is basically not playable during peak hours. My latency will be 80-100 if I try to play then. But yet Fortnite is in the 20s at that time.

I believe quite simply we were teenagers, everything seemed new and fresh, and had a fuck ton of time to waste on videogames. After almost 20 years of annual releases it's obvious you are gonna get tired and the fun will end. Mechanically, and balance wise, a lot of the choices in the old CODs are just horrendous. The quality of the post launch content was better, yes, but we were paying A LOT of money for a complete game....every year! I mean, I think that if we have gotten the same MW2019 (obviously with the graphics of the time) in, like, 2010, we would behold it as one of the greatest cod ever and bla bla bla.

Something about this new mw engine just does not sit right with me. Warning this rant is based on opinion and off my experience as a series veteran since cod4,
The biggest negative of the newer games is the advanced movement for me, I cannot stand all the jumping and sliding every single clip I watch is just sweaties "breaking cameras" and spamming the jump button on the back of their scuf controllers. It's not fun for me anymore and I moved on to more grounded and competitive titles. (I say that list bit because spam jumping isn't competitive or grounded at all.)
Overall the improvements are great I liked the mw2019 gunplay a lot till warzone dropped and everyone just started spam jumping. AW permanently changed the face of cod negatively with how they added advanced movement and you can't change my mind. BO2 had horrid netcode but holy fuck people actually stood and shot each other instead of jumping around corners at mach 7. I really like games that punish you for spamming the jump button with accuracy hits, that's why cs will forever be the goat. Jumping is for utility it's not a win button.

I agree mostly but I honestly never really enjoyed MW2. The Game was never patched and despite what most people say, I have always held the same belief of Multiplayer Video Games, that balance is a HUGE part of why I like MP Gaming and MW2 was simply too broken imo and thus I barely played it and enjoyed it much. Yes, Cod4 had M16/Stopping Power, Waw had MP40/Stopping Power and MW3 had shit like Dead Man's Hand (as seen in the video multiple times actually lol) but MW2 had an unimaginable amount of issues like all the Deathstreaks MW3 had but also knifing was broken and MW2 had Perks like Danger Close, Stopping Power, Commando and of course... One Man Army, also Explosives by themselves were broken as shit and you could get a Nuke with other Streaks, rather than all Gun KIlls, plus there were tons of bugs at launch like the Infinite Care Package Glitch by climbing up one whilst throwing it or something, and balance was all kinda wack, the last Assault Rifle, the F2000 was one of the worst guns in the game and that's only like a fraction of the issues. Idk, I just feel like MW2 was the perfect storm of issues at launch just enough to where it was too much and had more issues than any other COD, but also wasn't as uninspired feeling as newer COD Games are, but I still feel MW2 is highly overrated.

@@danieldanielson2324 Agreed. The issue is with current CoDs is that they rush the games out with little content, like 8-9 maps on launch, then rectify it saying "Content is free!" They already have your money, why would they put effort into making new maps and content when that gives them no money? All of their effort these days goes into their $24 bundles. You can tell everything around the games these days, from adding operators everywhere and a creating a free to play battle royale, that their main objective is getting people to buy these $24 flashy skins since that makes profit.
I think it's natural that, by human nature, people will eventually get tired of the "live service" and predatory FOMO service the game industry has right now and we'll move back to paid, but quality, content. Until then, it's up to people individually to scope the world out for completed games. To find the good games, avoid games with these things: "live service," "early access," and any type of micro-transactions (cosmetic or not). Think about all the great games in the past and present and you'll realize none of them have any of those things.

@@TheSpiderComix they made a killing by taking away content and features and then reintroducing it as something that is purchasable or for the ploy of “oh here’s some new content for you” For example, CW adding back a crossbow wasn’t NEW content! We’ve seen it before! These devs make bad game decisions, get flamed for it, rectify it later with an update and get praised???? Why are they getting praised for putting out a fire they started?
And these skins are literal free money. They probably pay for artists to devise something then make a dev create it. As long as it doesn’t have a dick, titties or a swasticka, it’s all on board to add. Who cares about paying respect to a time period like i don’t know, World War 2?!

Back in the day, we got more maps and better quality maps than we do now. We got to vote which maps we want to play and whether we continue to play with same people we played in the last match. Also skill based matchmaking was no way near as bad as it is now. Before i used to play lobbies filled with my country men in UK. Now i get players across europe as far as Germany and Poland just for the sake to match my skill level which means higher ping and swet. Here's something that might not be huge deal but something I find better in old COD games before selling skins/ micro transactions became a big thing. In multiplayer both teams used to look very different from each other which made them more recognizable and easier to detect, I remember in Black Ops 1 players even used too look different depending on what gun they used almost like classes so you easily knew what you were up against, I liked that. Also some of the historical settings looked more authentic which I liked, especially the older WW2 COD games. All armies looked like their real world counterpart. No weird character / weapon skins and no laser guns in WW2 like we get now. ( I realize most people probably don't care about this tho)

It was actually what you picked as your blue perk that changed your character model. Ghost users would have a Ghillie suit, Flak Jacket would give you armor, Scavenger gave you a hat, and I don't remember what hardline and lightweight gave you, since everyone stopped using hardline after the first nerf to it, and no one used lightweight at all.

You're right I was thinking about the original MW2 (2009). In MW2 the character models changed depending on what your main weapons was.
      -The snipers had Ghillie suits.
-LMG users were bigger and builkier.
      -Riotshield users had riotgear on.
-AR, SMG, and Shotgun users had slight changes like different helmets and face masks.
What's even more impressive is that they did this for every faction in MW2 multiplayer.
Even some of the factions camouflage changed depending if it was a snow/desert/woodland map.
MW3 did the same thing but it didn't have as many character variations as MW2 if I remember correctly.

On one hand, I like the gunsmith especially when you kit a weapon into a whole new gun and balancing tradeoffs can be interesting. But the system feels overbloated with tons of filler attachments and optics. Pick 10 in Vanguard is nice but it kind of undercuts the whole purpose of having to be smart with your mod slot choices.
I think MW got it right: 55 levels for primaries, 30 for secondaries but (in the case of Vanguard) you don't have to level up melees/launchers. I'd even be open to returning to Pick 5 with low level optics (like Reflex, Holo sights) being free, hell maybe go crazy by making it so you don't have to unlock weapon sights.

Unlike Ace, I don't have a problem with 10 attachments. It's not unrealistic. Guns do have many parts that can be changed out or modified, irl. What pisses me off is the sheer number of pointless optics. (and sometimes other attachments) And then also the order in which attachments of a type unlock, most especially with sights/optics. But it doesn't surprise me. It's all about player retention now. Though, at some point, all their player retention antics are going to cause player losses. And that's already happening.
