- Hi everyone.
In this very special video Steve explains how he wrote the drum part for the classic Paul Weller tune Whirlpools End. He goes through his thought process and where we got his inspiration for the parts and also discusses how he approaches playing and composition of drum parts in general.
A must see.
Also keep your eyes open for the new Drum-Ed, DRUM CLUB, coming very soon. With loads of great lessons from our team and many more world renowned drummers. All for a few dollars and month.
Enjoy
Rich, Mike and Steve
Love seeing Steve talk through the process, there's always so much thought put into it and little bits of inspiration from so many different genres, bands, and drummers. A true definition of the word "musician". Letting him just play the song at the end was superb too, the closest we'll probably ever get to seeing Steve play with Weller again.
What a belter of a tune! Best live track Paul ever played. Absolutely buzz every time I hear it. Steve was by a country mile the best drummer to play with Paul. Met Steve on a few occasions and found him to be a top bloke too. I'd just got back from Iraq and went to the Kentish Town Forum in 06. Steve, Damon and Steve Craddock came out after the gig and we chatted for about 10 minutes. Loved seeing Paul back then.
"whirlpools end" is one of my favourite PW tracks. steve is such an awesome drummer.
Steve along with Andy Rathbone from Mansun, are the two best British drummers of the 90s, and two of the best of all time
Absolutely epic, one of my favourite tracks off of Stanley Road, I saw Steve play live a lot between 1992 and 1996, and again between 2001 and 2006, such a great period in the 90’s with all the Acid Jazz band gigs I was going to. The drumming is still exceptional Steve, and the reason you are one of my all time favourite drummers!
Great drummer
Steve kept the Group together so underated wot a great drummer fire and skill👊
Just the best drummer and the best lad x
Absolutely brilliant watchingvsteve play this & a moster tune!! Top bloke steve is & what a fucking player...Steve & Paul had a real spiritual connection when playing live, just the little things too...like when he'd be looking at Weller fir the nod to signal the end of a song...Great respect!! Really hope one day we're see them together again, he's a real fan favourite but also that dynamic between them has never been captured for me, even though full respect to the others.
Phat. Love it 🔥
Amazing x
Great track, fantastic to understand the drumming behind this superb track. Inspired and have now subscribed! 👍
Steve is one of my fav drummers and people .
Massive respect to SW. Paul will never play with a greater drummer.
Amazing
14:03 I can hear the guitar riff before it even started! Such an iconic drum part!
Great vid. Drums are a complete mystery to me. To see if broken down like this is really enlghtning.
Hi Steve. When I was in my previous band - I actually didn't play the hi hats as the lead instrument on a lot of songs. I tried to create parts for the riffs and not just oh verse is on hi hats and chorus is on ride etc. Way more fun and interesting.
Who asked you and why should we care?
It's one of the best songs live, period.
Which period?
@@DaveTaste Stanley Road
@@ecbean good road.
So obvious Steve was such an essential part of success of Paul Weller's 1990's (and 1980's as Style Council, of course!). Would love to see Steve White and Paul Weller play together...It would be interesting to see them play together now (without Steve Cradock for change).
Nice
Mega this
Whitey is a ledge. Wish Weller would get him back on board. His music has suffered since Steve hasn't played tbh.
Embrace.. Err?
Yes...and?
Great drummer is Steve but not a patch on his brother Alan.
Lol!! You're funny cos you're wrong.
Ah, you're having a fucking laugh man! Steven is a million times better than him for fuck sake!
You clearly know nothing about drumming
Great drummer is Steve but half the drummer of his brother.
Ha ha, you deluded muppet!
Lol
