I'm a little confused as to why some folks think I took a swipe at TFL. In no way did I. In fact, I watch their channel often. They subject trucks to extremes that I don't have access to here in South Texas. They are the go to source for towing related information and provide some outstanding content. My comment about the Ike Gauntlet was to point out that my reviews are different than theirs, but in no way implying that mine are better. Some folks need to stop seeing negative in everything. Thanks for watching both channels.

I've owned a Trail Boss for a month now, very comfortable and smooth ride, still getting used to it and breaking it in. Hope it lasts as long as my other Silverados. 2008-242k and 1995 289k. Seems to avg 17 mpg so far, but with only 1000 miles on it, it's obviously early.

So gentlemen, u like your stuff simple huh and request chevy to keep it simple. Do u consider it fair for costumers to pay for a high end luxury vehicle amd not get the luxury? I mean, you r paying for it, might as well get it. And for you to say "oh, well, i prefer my truck simple". Gentlemen, every single truck and every brand has a standard model, the most cheapest and simple one. Get that damn standard one and let the others enjoy luxury on the high end! Wouldnt you call that fair?

I wasn’t a fan of the front end, and the redesign, but it’s actually growing on me. Saw a trailboss in a dark grey, and it looked great. I highly misjudged this truck. I’m more of a Ford guy, but I like the Silverados. I think I still like the 14s through 18s better, but this is growing on me.

  • @wrodney5

I am glad they brought back the rear air conditioning vents. I sold GM and Chevy in 2007-2008 and Chevy 2010-2014. That was one of the complaints from the previous GM owners. The trucks they had before had it. But the models previous to this didn't have it. That is a huge selling point here in central California where temperature will be in the high 90s to low 100s for pretty much the entire summer. I find it odd of the placement of they outside mirrors. They are placed high on the door instead of at the "A" pillar like other models. It would have been nice to have had turn signal indicators in the rear view mirrors like they did two generations ago. Even on base LS trim.

I've had my trail boss for a week and absolutely love it. I've not owned a Chevy in about 25 years due to their boring and bland designs but when I saw the trail boss - then drove it - I had to have it. This is coming from a RAM guy for over the past decade. My old 5.7 Hemi Lonestar would roast this Trail Boss in a straight line however, I can whip this Trail Boss around corners as if it's on rails. The maneuverability this truck has is incredible and is a blast to drive. I was going to pull the trigger on a '19 RAM Rebel but after driving it and comparing it to the Trail Boss, it really made my decision quite easy. I know the Rebel shines off road but for daily driving, the Trail Boss wins out IMO.

There is a lock box, and a couple trays that fit the deep center console. Under the back seat they make another long lock box that looks like a gun box. Our red 2019 Trail Boss LT came new with a Silverado black roll cage and black running boards installed. And, our side mirrors have the star&car emblems that light up to let you know a car is too close to pass or approaching alongside.

Also disappointed that GM didn’t switch out the wax undercoating. I live up north and the wax treatment doesn’t hold up. I end up undercoating my Silverado 2500 every year - an extra expense and not a sure fix either.

Very nice truck. Thank you for the review. Traded my 2018 F150 for one yesterday, and the feel of the truck on the road, far surpasses the Ford. The worst part of the aluminum F-150's are the warped dashes, cracked aluminum beds, unreliable vac assisted plastic 4WD hubs, and leaky plastic oil pans. Too many things to ignore on the F-150 IMO. Ford should fix the issue with warping dash plastics and offer a steel bed upgrade. They should also get rid of the IWE 4WD system because its not reliable at all.

Personally in my opinion vehicle manufactures need to slow it way down , I understand it's businesses constantly trying to outperform each other but come on man completely redesigning a truck every every 4 years is kinda outrageous , at this rate 10+ years from now trucks will most likely not even be trucks anymore instead van looking vehicles with a bed in the back , we want big headlights , we want big grills and big hoods , trucks are starting to look weak , but manufactures just won't stop changing them constantly so looks like we're screwed

guy proulx for Toyota at least, you get one of the worst gas mileage ratings in the industry. They’ve got over a decade old power train, and if the Detroit 3 had those ratings, the EPA would go after them immediately. Where is Toyota’s pass? Plus, I worked at a Toyota dealer in service, and I wouldn’t quite say they are that much reliable compared to the competition. Whether I had worked at that dealer, or any other manufacturer dealer, the day would’ve been no different. Toyota makes a pretty good product, but I personally wouldn’t buy one thinking they’re more reliable, especially after my experience.

I own a '14 Chevy Silverado LTZ 4x4 crew (5.3L). Looks like they "corrected" many of the things I DON'T like about the 2014-2018 versions. However, the 2019 interior is still boring/drab/utilitarian. Overall, there is enough improvements to "consider" trading in...but, may wait a few years and save my monthly payments. These things are expensive...even the 2014 I have. The new Trial Boss needs the 6.2L, sport steering wheel, better mirrors, and optional taller rear gearing (for pulling). Axle locks? Overall, it's decent, but it doesn't make me want to go down and check one out. Prob about $45K for that version...best guess.

“Is it worth upgrading?” Is a widely subjective question, with all due respect, and would vary by the person. I have a 2015 LT Z71 crew cab. I recently came across a heck of a deal on a 2019 RST Z71 and test drove it, as well as gave it a good look over. With that in mind, the truck is not only an upgrade in terms of model year, but also an upgrade from the actual truck I have, at a better price. The ‘19 has the spray in liner from the factory, bose system, bucket seats, leather, 20inch wheels, weather tech-like surround floor mats, dual exhaust, outlet in the bed, much smoother ride and I could go on and on. When you compare some of the other features, they seem more refined. The only drawback I have found so far is that the steering column is easier to move up and down. When I get in and out of my ‘15 I raise and Lower the steering wheel, but the ‘19 makes it a little more difficult, but that could be because it has the telescopic adjustment. Not sure if the other models have just tilt wheel or if telescopic is standard.

RAM and GM has certainly up the game with these new models and especially love the Trail Boss package here with the upgraded rear space (flat floor, real headrests and rear vents) and bed improvements all in a lighter package. Maybe time to upgrade our '14 F150 Lariat but looking at the specs, I only see a 24 Gallon gas tank and no towing mirrors yet? Will they be offering an optional mid-30s tank version for us towing types at some point? I'm sure the aftermarket will help with the tow mirror snap-ons at least, but factory would be a lot nicer. Would love the 6.2L option in this package as well.

VIDEO SUGGESTION can you do a video on Regen, DEF, EGR, i.e. all things diesel emissions? What about fuel and air filters? You mentioned you should only get diesel gas in certain places before. Want to know what you experience has been, how many times your truck regens, and how to avoid DEF issues. A hot topic right now is where to get your DEF fluid. Given all these things, buying a diesel truck scares me so I am leaning towards the 6.2L gas. I'm hoping Ford eventually puts turbos in their gas engines for the F250. Thanks!

Thank you for your reviews on this truck . Ive actually been watching review videos of trucks and SUVs because this year I am getting one of them but I’m still in the study mode from reviewers like you and from friends who have Been truck owners for years . The only thing I didn’t like about this truck is the seat belt having no adjustments to the height , the rest is tolerable for me . This is just my humble opinion and I don’t speak for the rest and I don’t pretend I know more about vehicles than others .

The styling on that truck is growing on me... when i first saw it, I was like "ok... that looks really weird but maybe its bad angle.." the thing that most threw me off it was that weird body crease along the side that ends on the front doors. Normally, I'm just not a fan of the soft curve on what is otherwise a vary angular body. I don't know why, but now I like it more then the GMC..
Fun fact: they made a different door skin for the GMC to reverse that crease to further differentiate the trucks.. They never do that for trucks. (and usually avoid it even on platform shared cars when they can.) I don't think the Cadillac Escalade got anything more then a different plastic trim section on the door... far less then the entire skin of the door being reshaped. This was one of the things I actually did not like.. and still not a fan on.. If I have to replace the door for whatever reason.. Now I have to also look out to find a specific brand too. But it might make sense they are doing this if the cost of stamping out aluminum parts is cheaper then steel parts.
I don't think I like the styling of a Chevy truck as much as this one since the 1988-1999 Chevy body series. it hits me in the same way the 1994 dodge ram redesign does. nothing really inside the truck changed much... but the new artist really did a good job of bring out a element not seen in the vehicle before.

    • @MrArslan0510
      @MrArslan0510 6 років тому +1

James Beaman so many challenges... So since this is a half brake by wire system in the case of all lost power (very unlikely) you will still have hydraulic braking it will just feel like if a conventional system lost its vacuum line somehow. Also since this is a massive truck in the case of an emergency we activate park brake motors to act like brakes.
Another challenge was pedal feel. People are so used to conventional pedal feel that this system would seem broken when it is really just fine. So we spent a lot of effort trying to get that pedal feel just like a normal system

Anyway, I do appreciate your non biased reviews. I will comment that the new GM 2019 trucks look more like a refresh, their interiors still just look "DRAB". I like the rear seat back storage but nothing else compels me to go back to Chevrolet. I currently drive a Tundra and Toyota seems to be missing the mark too, falling way behind on creature comforts. As your Ram review points out I think the one to beat in 2019 is the Ram.

I worked in the automotive industry most of my career, actually 20 years with GM service and parts. Anything from Chrysler was never looked at as reliable. BUT now that Fiat has stepped in and Ram is it's own division the Ram truck division is no longer being treated as the rad headed step child. Lately. comparing 2018 models Consumer reports rates the Ram as being more reliable than the GM's offerings and better than Ford. Toyota still takes top honors by a land slide. BUT if you are not introducing anything new, it is easy to build reliability.

Hello again Big T! Oh yea I agree I really like this new Chevy! That is exactly how I would buy one, but not yet sure if the LT upgrade is worth the extra $$. I will have to see the built it yourself on line before I make that call. I might even wait till the InLine Duramax Diesel is released, to see my travel towing options with that package. But I will try to limit myself to keep it under 50k! I know the list prices on these are high, but I've never seen anyone ever pay full retail on a Silverado, even if special ordered, as I might actually do. Money no object, I would buy either a loaded LTZ Heavy Duty Tow Package, in Tri-Coat Pearl White, or an LTZ Z71, 6.2., if possible, then add my own leveling kit. That all depends on one thing, that is does the Trail Boss lift ad any suspension travel? Or just hight? If so I'll go with the factory package, if not ill look to the aftermarket for more travel. I'm not so sure yet, it all conditions s down to the bottom line at the time. But it will be either of these four. In order Chevy, Ram, Titan, Ford. Not even yet sure of HD or 1/2 ton. I would really rather buy a Diesel ZR2 Crew Cab, but they're so dam expensive! Unless I'm lucky enough to find one that's under 45 K or so! Cause I could get a decent half ton, or even HD or Titan for that price! It is really a dilemma.

Seems to me, if you are going off road, you would want liners to deaden the noise and protect the fenders. I won't even get going on the insipid "auto start/stop" button. I recently brought a 16 1500 Silverado Z71. I personally like the looks of the 2016-2018 generation better than the 2019s. The interior is basically the same but with less buttons in the console in the 16s-18s which I like less knobs anyways. I like the running LEDs better in mine, the whole front end to me looks way better. I’m not a fan of the round wheel wells really or the integrated rectangular exhaust tips in the rear bumper. I think it’s pointless to have a automatic tailgate that can lift itself I don’t see the point however I do like that they come with the assisted tailgate release though to avoid slamming your gate. I do like the rear seat hidden storage though in the 19s and the under the seat storage. In mine you can fold the rear seats up but there’s no storage box under the seat like in the new ones. I’m not a fan of the full console either I like the lift up console that turns the seat into a bench seat. I do like that they mine has lights for the bed that are under the bed rails as well as the rear cab light. One thing I realized in mine is that it’s a pain to change the air filter the housing comes with 4 8mm/flat head screws that are long and a cross bar has to be removed first to even take the whole cover off smh. I’m definitely a fan of the v4 mode who doesn’t like to save gas? I also like that the 19s have individual outside door handle lock buttons. Overall I like the new chevys but the only ones that look decent are the trail bosses but they need a bigger wheel setup and they look awesome not so much stock.

GM is the only company that had two different truck classes. Why?
Silverado has the cooler Trailboss name but the GMC has the All Terrain-4 (AT4) and the 6.2L which is a beast in comparison to the weak willed 5.3L.
Honestly only the AT4 matches the Rebel in it's power and design.

Another great review as usual! It's a great looking truck and I'm glad to see that GM is putting more effort into the interior, specifically the inclusion of air vents and proper head rests in the back seat. I really wish that they would go with an e-coated frame though as the wax coating would be a deal killer for me up here in Northwestern Illinois. Did you happen to notice if the steering wheel is still offset? That always struck me as problematic from a long term ownership standpoint. Thank you. Regards, Tom
