Stumpy SRH805S Flexi Stumpy SF20 Dual Band VHF/UHF 144MHz/430MHz Medium Flexi 5-152 ANTENNA 136-174/400-520MHZ Long Flexi Nagoya NA-771 This is what the adds say on ebay ... But of course there is no guarantees of them being genuine
FYI, that nagoya antenna appears to be a counterfit. I think this because I ordered one on Amazon, and they had a counterfit warning in the description, and they said the counterfit nagoya antennas have the nagoya logo in Blue, and the real nagoya antennas are in silver. If u want more info, check amazon for that antenna.
Hi Amateur radio and thank you! Great test, I just bought a "medium size flexible antenna", and thanks to your test, I'm glad of the my purchase! Fabio
Same here, got na-771, sf-20 and vx-7r stock ant - last week compared to mate's comet sma503 and I was stunned - 5-6s when na-771 (best of mines) had only 2-3s while it's also much shorter. So I ordered Harvest sma-503 willing it to be same good - I still wanted to avoid buying over 20 quid Diamond/Comet 503. No more cheap antennas except this last try with Harvest 503. Also awaiting my callsign - I'm just after an exam. 73!
What about range? I did a test with the stock antenna about 1.25 miles away and could only make intermittent contact, which was a disappointment. I was expecting amuch greater range. What sort of estimated improvement would the two larger antennas provide?
Well this test was from the same place to the same place ... (nothing changed ).... but it all depends on the terrain. .... With the stock antenna I have contacted a station 70 miles away ... because I was 3000 foot up a mountain and they were 1000 foot up a hill ( not much in the way)
+Amateur radio Nice video to bad you only tested VHF not also there UHF performance. But It didn't surprise me that the B.P. or Stumpy SRH805S preformed worse then the original antenna.
+Video Québec actually A J-pole or slim jim on an extension pole will give best range results. mostly all energy direct flat & close to the ground, low takeoff angle.
mine came with the "Medium Flexi" as standard. so kinda glad for that one. or tho the packaging was none assistance on delivery of the radio .. came in a bag w/o box from china... did think maybe was a fake but after some research found it all to be ok.
+Eigenfield Aparicio Made in Taiwan is good because chinese clones arent allowed to use Made in Taiwan, they have no problem faking made in Japan. Check for proper UPC/EAN barcodes for real origin, look for a quality control stickers , good silver silkscreens coiled antennas give better performance when not vertical, they also have larger freq range, but with less gain.
I test my radio (Baofeng UV-82) with Long Flexi and Medium Flexi on .70cm and I got same results but when I test it on 2m then I got better results with Long Flexi...
...just so you know, the Nagoya 771 antenna your showing is a fake Chinese knock off. Nagoya has been telling all their suppliers that any antenna that says Nagoya with a blue logo IS NOT from Nagoya. Maybe you'd get better results if you used the real thing.
Nice review. Can you post the model numbers?

Amateur radio see my comment above...the Nagoya 771 you are using is a fake Chinese knock off...at least use the real thing!
David Camden I was afraid of that. There are so many look alikes.
Tom
I only found out about those "fake" antenna's when I went to Nagoya's website. Shalom.
medium flexi 5-152 google search comes up as its stock antenna, so its not a rubber ducky?
Hello how to have an 3.7 channel on the uv 5r ?

What was the distance of the HT/antenna test from the base station?
+RETiredGM I have a home made just pole on the chimney. I have got about 80 miles on 10 watts but I'm not very high

Is it best to get a longer antenna with a coil in it ?
+Video Québec yes

+cyberjack great radios
Same here, mine comes with Medium Flexi as standart too... Works very well, got 2 km easily in mountain & valley area.
i thought my radio connected to the repeater when your intro started playing ahaha
Did you run similar tests on 70cm?
Hi ...sorry I have not ... I don't have a 70cm Rig with a meter
as it is difficult to know if an antenna is fake or not, is it a risk to buy and use these branded antennas? Is there some kind of test we should do?

I might do this same test with mine but my last one will be a 4 element quad :-P

OMG I spelt "OMG" wrong .... Not Funny !
lol
LOL, well it's hard to get things straight on video, why the pros get the big bucks. Nice job, 3 years later and still relevant. thanks.
