Have you seen how dodgy their workmanship is, I don't think they should try doing a conversion, not if they don't want to lose money, just sell it as is.
Years ago the wife came home to find a school bus in our yard. Went to county auction that day and couldn't pass up the bus, I only paid $350 for it and drove it home. made good money on it.
as a huge school bus nerd this bus is actually very beautiful! also those couple buttons by the door switch are for your reds and ambers your bus has a warning light master switch which if it isnt turned on you cant activate your ambers! I cant wait to see more episodes on this beautiful bus!
Very nice bus!! That’s either a 2000-2004 Bluebird International 3800 with a good ole DT466E engine. Yes it does have a big turbo. Gives it tons of power.
Likely a 2003. The number "2503" painted on the side usually indicates that it was the 25th bus purchased by the school district in 2003. In MY district, it's the reverse, it would be numbered "0325".
Get a sponsor, one of the big BBQ houses, and turn it into a portable BBQ smoker pit wagon to roam the country and hit all the fairs, concerts and such. In exchange you get all you can eat brisket and ribs for life...if you know where the next stop is for the school bus pit wagon. Have fun and save a rib or two for your fans!
Michael and Ivan, that's a darn nice bus. You were fortunate to find one with relatively few things wrong. From what I've heard, Blue Bird makes a really good bus. You could put lots of hours into making a camper or you could bless a church, youth camp, or some such with a reasonably priced bus and not pour more money into this.
The big yellow school bus cleaned up pretty nice after your adventure getting it home. It will be interesting to see what you decide to do with it. Stay safe and God Bless.
Maybe would make a good church activity bus. You could give them a good price on it and get heavenly rewards. What an adventure bring it home. You guys are definitely resourceful and talented mechanics.
wow i been in the trucking business for over 40 years one time up in mi north of Grand rapids had to put a clutch in my old white simi truck in a IGA parking lot you guys are fun to watch (Rich) in Indy KEEP UP THE GOOD VIDEOS I LIKE IT THAT YOUR KEEPING IT CLEAN CONTENT
Never a boring minute, you guys are very brave. Great viewing, been through the Smokeys on 40/26 and through that tunnel headed to S.C. myself. Beautiful part of the country.
Robbie Hagberg was saying you are trying to help me know if you need help with the lights down low the number my name is most like a while but she is still
The bus you guys found is an International Bluebird, the switches that you are referring to are the Warning Light Master when this worked on a route and the W/L Override to keep reds on in case of an emergency. The Light bulb was the strobe for the top at night and the engine this bus has is the DT466E which E is Electronic instead of a Mechanical one. Those had the Fuel switch that you push and pull to cut off and activate the fuel, beside the ignition so you had to manually cut off the fuel even when the key was off, If you need more information let me know
Thanks guys for the new adventure, quite an odyssey. I consider that the best thing to do is to repair the small dents, leave it as it is and paint it for sale to a charity or congregation.👍👍
@15:28 flip up the W/L Master switch- this is the main power for the warning lights. Then press the silver button labeled W/L SW.. this should start the warning lights.. amber first, then when you open the door, they turn to red and the stop sign and crossing arm deploy. The W/L EMER button is for use in an emergency in case your warning lights don't activate when you press W/L SW.. it is an override switch that activates red lights immediately. The 2 black knobs with dots on the surround are for your mirrors.. driver and passenger, top and bottom side mirrors.. the front cross view ones are manually adjusted. @15:39 the switch in front of your thumb is for the strobe light on top of the bus.. C/ARM CANCEL cancels the cross arm in the front. The button above your knuckle is for the heated mirrors.. to the right, in the middle is for your defroster fan, and all the to the right is for your interior dome lights
That's what the long drive did. It probably did not have much to start with, but 6 hours at operating temp with a fluid change or two probably did a great job.
There should be many offers for that school bus. From Churches, private schools, recreation groups to scouting groups. Before you destroy it. Good luck.
Make a NIKO BROTHERS CAFE/REATAURANT BUS INSIDE ...SELL SOME SNACKS AND NIKO BROTHERS T-SHIRTS ETC .....Drive around from state to state ...Wauv What a cool bus DANG .I like it a lot .. Michell. Norway ..👍😊😊
A great adventure just getting it back to the shop! It cleaned up nicely too. I wouldn't worry about the mileage those engines are built to last, just recheck all the fluids and lubricants. I would do a camper conversion or as others have said see if a Church group want it for their choir perhaps. If you do a camper conversion think very carefully before you start and make a plan. There is a lot of work to do so a plan is essential. Thanks for sharing this video Brothers have a good weekend. 👍 👍
What a beautiful bus such a bargain you should turn it in to an rv I'd love to see that happen peace and love guys can't wait to see what you decide either way it would be a great restoration
RV conversion. Once you do it and understand the pitfalls you may be able to buy a 2nd bus with rear end body damage to convert into a toy hauler with a wider door for 4 wheelers or side-by-side and some space for a bed or two.
I've been driving my 81 GMC Wayne 72 passenger School Bus for 16 years I've been living in it yours looks pretty new well enjoy it and the yellow Big Bird have fun in it
You guys are just the best, never a dull moment watching you 😂 I was just visiting my daughter in Greenville, next time I'd love to pop by and have a photo with you 😁📷
Great job on your purchase of the buss, I think after it’s cleaned up and if it’s running great maybe Donate to a church or boys or girls club it’s a great deduction!!
At 1:26- That door is a storage compartment for emergency reflector triangles to set out in case the bus breaks down on the roadside. Some buses also have wheel chocks in there.
as a schoolbus driver . those dt466 motors a trans were really great, and where i am you have to remove the stop arm as soon as its ouyya use, but ther worth a good buck so don't trash it
Convert it into a shop on wheel take the seats out and put tool boxes and bench’s in to work on staters or carburetors or something would be really cool to see
What a cool bus !! I'd imagine there's a church or school somewhere that would love a good deal on a nice bus. Maybe donate it and take the tax write off?
I definitely think you guys found a gem. There is a huge school bus to skoolie conversion going on. People are paying like 7 to 9k for what you just bought. Go over to bus life story. Great find.
Guess skoolie conversions are popular, especially with diesel engines. With your scrap, could covert to stand up roof and fix up mechanicals. Might flip for food profit
Turn it into a toy hauler since both of you have side by sides, build a big door in the back that folds down into a ramp that closes that way they will be out of the elements.
i drove a school bus for 2 years after retiring from NJ Transit Bus. The school would replace the seat if it was ripped, they said it was the law. Liability I think. The student bar in the front will work when the lights are activated. Keeps the kids from walking right in front of the bus where you can't see them (I had a kid walk into it and bent it). Don't know if you have a child alarm in the back but you will have to go to the back of the bus to shut it off when you shut the bus off. So you don't leave any kid on the bus. I think it would be great as an RV. I picture bunk beds for your kids on each side, queen bed in the very back. Do not use the RED Stop, or the flashing lights while driving it around. Big No No! NJ makes you take them off before registering it. Some states say you have to convert it before registering it. "Navigation Nowhere" You Tuber would be a good source for info.
Finish cleaning it up change/flush all the fluids wash the motor for sale Also don’t know how fast it drove but most schools set the speed on them need hook up to computer you can have it turned up even have spec’s adjusted
Make sure u take off the school bus sign and stop sign and lights before conversion. You can use them on private land but not on public roads, unless you're a licensed school bus driver.
School buses are comprised of two separate distinct parts: the cowl/chassis, in this case made by International Harvester, and the bus body made by Blue Bird. The mostly complete body is lowered onto the frame rails, bolted down, electrical connections made and away it goes. The IH motor is basically bullet-proof as is the Allison transmission. You'll get bus body parts from the body company and chassis parts from the local IH/truck dealer. Most buses are governed at 55/60 MPH because they aren't race trucks. Bodies are designed for safety, not comfort and long distances.... Enjoy it..! Have fun..!
Other option is cleaning all wire connections and drivetrain fluids / paint bus and donate it to inner city ministry or church! You get tax credit bless someone! I use to be youth pastor in East St. Louis and we had four old buses to transport children and adults! What is nice about your bus is it’s shorter bus still has a good amount of seats😎🙏🏻
Those 3800 buses my school district bus mechanic swears by it that they are the best bus make international ever made they loved them they do wish they could go back to them.
A 1990's International school bus. What year is this bus? I have a friend who was in the United States Air Force and they had that type of bus. What type of diesel engine and does this bus have disc or drum brakes? A lot of those buses are equipped with Allison Automatic transmission.
You're one step closer to picking up a luxury coach like a Prevost or classic Silver Eagle RV conversion. The latter are known to rust so you could employ your many skills to save one.
I think you got a really good deal on the school bus. Blue Bird 🐦 is the brand of the bus. Don’t know who is the manufacturer. Perfect size to convert into a nomadic travel van. Seems like a good project but maybe 🤔 not your cup of tea unless you got lots of time on your hands. Good video, take care and hand have a great day.
@@user2C47 Yes they do It’s a subsidiary called IC (Integrated Coach), they started in 2002. Until 2007 international supplied many buses manufacturers their Chassis along side Ford, GM and until 1977 Dodge.
With the wasted campers/RV’s you have in your yard, I think an RV conversion would be neat. You have all the fixtures and stuff.
Perhaps sell a package deal to someone interested in building a schoolie using items on hand in the salvaged coaches.
Yes a build out of what’s only in the salvage yard.
Have you seen how dodgy their workmanship is, I don't think they should try doing a conversion, not if they don't want to lose money, just sell it as is.
They should totally
Years ago the wife came home to find a school bus in our yard. Went to county auction that day and couldn't pass up the bus, I only paid $350 for it and drove it home. made good money on it.
I bet a church, senior center, private school, etc would buy that in a heartbeat! Peace
Don't forget to check the front and rear wheel bearings for water contamination too.

Ultimate toy hauler, leave couple rows of seats, then convert the rear to park the side by sides, some tools, mini kitchen etc

I’d change the rear end oil and the transmission fluid and filter ,fuel filter ,and also the engine oil and filter.
Turn the bus into an RV. Have Ivan paint the yellow, leave the top white I'd be cheaper. Put in a kitchen, bathroom, big bed, table.
