A LONG WAY FROM NOWHERE: 150 Miles at The Desert RATS Stage Race | Ultra-Running Documentary
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 бер 2023
- What compels a person to run 150 miles through the desert at the height of summer? Is it the need for achievement, the competitive instinct, or something deeper? A LONG WAY FROM NOWHERE is a different sort of extreme sports film-one centered not around winning or extraordinary spectacle-but instead one focused upon the human spirit-on why individuals, knowingly or not, seek out some of the harshest climates on earth-in this case, southern Utah in June-and push themselves to, and sometimes beyond, the breaking point.
Amongst the disparate cast of characters in this film is a veteran suffering from PTSD, a widowed single father, and a female police officer working in the field of human trafficking. Each undertakes the 150-mile Desert Rats stage race, each their darkest hour, and each, through the curious alchemy of extreme hardship and desert solitude, emerges with a new understanding of what it is to be human. This is A LONG WAY FROM NOWHERE.

I rarely comment...but this is EXACTLY what ultras should be about!!!
Glad you commented! I think there's a lot of "humaness" (maybe not a word haha) that comes out and comes across at these endurance events. It's a profound feeling that I think anyone who has been to an ultraendurance event comes a way with (participant, crew member, or spectator)
@Chris Ward couldn't agree more...but after I wrote my comment I started to think how wonderful it would be if those ethics/moral compass/dedication/sensitivity would cross over to the world at large!
@@steveedwards7883 I definitely see what you're saying but I truly think that positivity and inspiration is always around us if we are keeping our eyes open to it!
Former Desert RAT here - I loved this - it was so well done and truly captures the essence of the experience of getting to the end of yourself to find yourself! So great to see Liz, Mikie, Ulla, KRay, and of course, Reid and Kyla!!! We're retired from ultras now, but hope to see y'all at the trail running festival soon. Once a Desert RAT, always a Desert RAT!!
big salute for the brother who is holding the flag man you r tough
40:24 the statement she makes about how time moves slower when you’re young and how you can capture that again by experiencing new things is so great.
The intro speech is an excellent description of why so many people do run ultras or even marathons. Sure there are the people who want to be the best or the person who wants to test the limits of humans, but then there's the people are have so many demons and they want to drag them through the wringer.
The filming and editing is phenomenal deserves to be picked up by BBC immediately!!
That is mighty kind of you to say. It was certainly a pleasure working alongside this talented group of filmmakers.
Soundtrack was exceptional. How inspiring
May the wind be always in your back.
Congratulations rose Adams..
Representing Phillipines 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
What a great movie!! It is not about winning the race. It is about the people. What an authentic movie. Loved all the runners. Great achievement!!!
I'm 75, a Veteran, Army and Air Force Rescue and run half marathons, but often wonder if I'm crazy. But this event is scary, I almost collapsed watching it.
Thanks.
No we are not crazy
You sir are not crazy, and thank you so much for your service.
My tribe ❤💪🏾
Congrats to the filmmakers!
Thanks Jimmy, it was such a wonderful experience being a small part in the creation of this film, but I think the real kudos go to the racers. They are the true heroes!
Congrats Rose Adams 🇵🇭♥️
True American spirit ✊🏽

This is so awesome!!!! Running can be transformative. The space you give yourself and your thoughts through running is powerful!
@@LikeaBigfoot I've always been a sprinter..but this desert endurance series is motivating..💯
This video brought tears to my eyes I love fruita and I am proud of living here and glad I choose ultra running at such a young age of 18 there so many races even in just this town I'm hyped for the 100k in April
Just watched it a third time, and shared to public. I laughed, I cried, it moved me Jason ; }

Hey, I'm in that video!!! What a great race that year. Thanks to all the volunteers and race staff and the video crew! This is a race that cannot be described in a video or in words, but this video comes the closest.
Eric!!! You are incredible!! And it was awesome to spend the week in the desert with you all!!
This looks interesting but I don't know if I could endure this..❤
This has to be the best ultra running documentary I've ever watched (and I watch a lot of them). I woke up this morning in immediate pain in lower back and hip. This film was in my watch later que & thought it wound be a good idea to watch since I can't really move at all today. Glad I did. The tears came. The human spirit is amazing despite tragedies and tough times. My goal is to run an ultra someday if I can get my creaky old body in better shape. Very well done, guys and thank you. 👍
Wow! This gave me chills! Definitely chase that ultra goal! I promise you it'll be worth every step of the process. I wish you the very best on your journey!
Wow! Thank you❤

Sending love and light. I m with you guys all the way. Love you all.❤ Thank you for giving us hope.
What a great movie! Very moving stories. Congratulations to all the racers. For each racer there are 11 million Americans that wouldn't attempt such a crazy race.
Wonderful
Best race documentary I've seen.. jason you did good and everyone else..
All of you are amazing, Job well done.
What a great, inspiring documentary!!!
I cried through pretty much the whole movie! "Sometimes the best place to be is focusing on someone other than yourself" -Jeff This is a perfect summary of all the stories told in this film and the comradery displayed through these racers. Thank you for all the work poured into this and for sharing these beautiful stories!
🙏
Well done!
Love this movie! It shows the true spirit of the ultra-running community. I cried when Jason was in his last few miles. I'm a member of RWB as well so I was rooting for him the whole time. Very beautiful creation here.
100% !
Eaglefire!!
The spirit of other ultra runners is what draws me to the sport! The power to endure and persevere!
Thank you very much for this great film!
Running is keeping me sane these days 💯❤️

Amazing achievement well done Tim
Thanks for being a part of this Tim!
You are an inspiration Tim. Watching you persevere and push through self doubt to not only finish, but to win the whole thing. Truly in awe!
Awesome job Tim, you are an animal. Great watch as well
The range of people in this is just inspiring and what a beautiful amazing tough bunch of people.Fact that they continue even after suffering so bad is something else.
The grit and determination is inspiring. It makes me want to get out and do something out of my comfort zone.
I just completed my 2nd marathon 12 days ago and they nothing to what these guys did.
Loved it. The highs and lows of multi day racing is something else. Hearing Jason talk the morning of day 5 got me choked up.
Agreed!
The way he says "because they feel alone" has so much passion, empathy and shared pain, it still makes me tear up. I love that guy!
Watching from the UK, great production, thanks to all the runners and people who made this happen
I love this documentary! The best I've seen so far very inspirational.

Was this the movie that was on Netflix awhile back?
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🫶🏾😎👍🏾
In order to be a long way from nowhere, you have to be in the middle of somewhere. So, I would have to say, downtown Manhattan, roughly the physical center of the largest city in the world by land mass, would be a long way from nowhere, because everywhere you turn, you're somewhere. This video on the other hand, demonstrates the opposite, a long way from somewhere.
I took it as it is not nowhere and it is a far way from being nowhere because of all the relationships you make and all the things you learn
On day 2 in the middle of that heat I felt like I was a long way from nowhere, somewhere and anywhere.
Meh. Not everyone who runs ultras is "broken". Lost me in the intro.
Running is keeping me sane these days 💯❤️
