PNW_PsilocybeJedi I am in a similar boat...I have a shield 9 for EDC and have been looking at the 20 or 29 for backcountry as well. I have shot the 20 at a range and didn’t think the recoil was that much greater than my Shield. However, I can’t find the 29 to rent anywhere. How does the G29 recoil compare with the 9 mm shield’s recoil? Just want to make sure I could place follow up rounds in a black bear if push came to shove
@@d-cm1446 I have both the Glock 29 and the shield 9mm. The shield is definitely softer shooting, but I don't find the 29s recoil to be an issue. Interestingly, I have the Glock 43 and it's closer to the 29s recoil than the shield.
If you go wiith G29 you install up to a 6 inch aftermarket barrel and you can also use G20 magazines with a grip adapter on the magazine. The G29 can do just about anything the G20 can. It's a versatile gun.

Then you can go back to concentrating on aim and trigger control. Also need to practice again with the higher velocity rounds you may use to everyday carry. I had a 29 and I agree it did feel like 26.83 POUNDS carrying it in the pocket 🤣 P.S. I disagree if you can only have 1 it's the 20, easier to control & you can put the 9 inch Lone Wolf barrel on for max power or I like the KKM 6 inch barrel also --- or better yet get both!
Excellent and very complete presentation. It's interesting that you bring up the added velocity and powder burn of the longer G.20 barrel as a reason for more recoil although perceived recoil is also subject to ergonomics, actual recoil is exactly as you state. This holds true in general for most firearms. For example, the 4 inch 500 SW on average weighs 3.5 lbs, the 8 inch 4.5 lbs. the difference in bullet speed is approximately 250 feet per second on most loads. That additional speed makes the longer 8 inch frame recoil more than the shorter lighter 4 inch...even with its added weight, it has about 4 lbs of added recoil; strictly and as you state for the two Glocks you're comparing, because of the better powder burn and particularly because of the additional speed of the bullet which is one of the 4 elements required to calculate recoil. This is contrary to what most people would expect.
I EDC a Glock 20 everyday at work we aren't supposed to carry but I carry anyways and nobody can even tell I have it on me. I also carry the G20 when I am camping, when EDC I load it with the 200gr noslers by underwood and keep two spares. When I'm in the woods or hunting I carry underwood extreme penetrators and 200gr hard cast by underwood
If having to choose between the two, get yourself a proper concealment rig (ignore the shitty Uncle Mike's type of holster and anything else of that sort) and a good belt, and carry the G20 in comfort. Going with the shorter barrel on the G29 handicaps the performance of the 10mm, and it's quite a bit harder to control with that stubby grip frame.
@@DreErdna If it were up to me, I would to the same with it as with the G20 over the G29, i.e. I would get the best, most comfortable concealment rig available (btw...my S&W 1006 rides in a Kramer horsehide IWB#2), then opt for the G21 over the G30.

Yes, I wouldn't pocket carry anything except 42/43 from Glock. I pocket carry my LC9S without issue. It's actually my EDC now that it's hot in my area. Belt holsters are too sweaty.
Pocket carrying this gun would only be accomplishable if you want to look like a thug. you would have to wear basketball shorts and this thing would sag those shorts down to your ankles.
oddly enough the video comparison shown in the start of your video is exactly the same type of groups my G20 vs G29 gets. You would think a longer barrel full size firearm would have tighter groups. Not the case in your display and mine as well.
G29 but like every Glock it needs some work. 15 round x grip mag. Wheaton arms trigger. Custom milling. Trijicon night sights. Talon grip. Liberty Civil defense 10m. Boom! Less recoil, better control, smoother pull, better accuracy and speed that will penetrate lllA armor
Though .45 is a competent round and I sure don't want to stop one, 10mm is far superior against larger threats where penetration is critical. Even a hot .45 won't have the power and depth of penetration of an average 10mm, and a hot 10mm gets close to and can exceed .357 magnum power. On something like a bear, you have to drill through a lot of fat or a hard skull to hit something the critter cannot live without. If you only have a .45 then it will work, but if you are choosing and want something that will be effective on pretty much anything in the contiguous US then go 10mm.
My G29sf gen 3 is in the process. ( Ca DOJ Jail, for 10 days) I bought a Kimber 1911 in 10mm and I'm enjoying the round, if not the Kimber's temperamental break in period. Looking forward to shooting the 10mm out of the 29 and making it one of my CCW.

@@HammerStriker Sorry about that. The 20. These at both for sale at a local shop along with the 29. I'm lookin to get in to 10mm and glock seemed like a solid choice.
The 20 would be no in most cases, the 29 will be "it depends". I am a muscular guy with large legs so I can easily carry the 29 in cargo shorts and when I sit down it will lay flat on top of my leg and stay put. Smaller people will have problems with it wanting to slide to the side and maybe become visible. Jeans and other tighter fitting clothes would be a no-go.
The glock web site , and all of us know that the Glock 29 is a true "SUB COMPACT" not as close to a sub compact but a real compact... I would love Glock to make a 20x taking the slide off of the model 29 and putting it on the Glock 20 """""lets call it the Glock 20x"""""
No, the 20 is much larger. It would be more comparable to the Glock 17, though it is larger by fractions of an inch in every dimension than even a G17. The G20 is classified by Glock as a "Standard Size" like the G17 (fits into what might be considred a "Service Pistol" size). The 19 is classified as a "Compact", but in 10mm Glock actually skips that classification and goes directly to the G29 which they classify as a Subcompact (like the G26, and G27). The "SF" designation is "Short Frame" (you also hear "Small Frame") and affects the size of the grip slightly. A Gen 3 SF gun is roughly the same grip size as an equivalent Gen 4 without any of the add-on backstraps attached.
Im not sure why the gun community feels it necessary to show the camera the gun is empty....yes safety check it for yourself, but see why for the camera.....dont see vehicle reviews checking the oil? Im not against safety at all
We (and other channels like ours) do that for a purpose, it is because there are different reasons people come to UA-cam. Some come purely for entertainment (which is great), but many are new to firearms and come to UA-cam to learn. As safe handling procedures are the most important factor of dealing with firearms, reinforcing it is important. An inexperienced shooter viewing our videos (or others with similar mindset) will be reminded of the need to be very aware of the state of the weapon in addition to following the other safety procedures. Every once in a while you hear of somebody being shot by an "unloaded gun" (obviously it wasn't) or during the cleaning procedure. Hopefully reinforcing the need to clear a weapon that is going to be handled for a reason other than actually firing it may educate somebody and prevent a tragedy.
So instead of making a G23 sized 10mm they make one that's really too small for a hot10mm and one that too big for concealed carry so they end up selling more because there's no goldilocks 10mm version instead of giving you what the public wants. And don't tell me you can put a 15 rnd mag in the g29 because that still doesn't address the esthetics(looks crappier than a glock normally looks). Finally, when Glock will start making grip reduced versions for people with smaller hands? Do they want to increase sales?.
The 29 is my EDC. But to call it a pocket gun is misleading... More like, pocket cannon! 😆

oddly enough the video comparison shown in the start of your video is exactly the same type of groups my G20 vs G29 gets.
Am searching for the best 10mm for my needs. I found your video very helpful. Well done and thanks. Jim Seaman
29 subcompact ,20 compact ,40 full size
The G29 is a subcompact... not a compact, compact glocks have the full 3 finger grip drop the clip on a sub and you’re down to two finger grip😑
6:05 for size comparison
What ammo were you shooting in the range clip? I ask bc i used to want a 20gen4 up until i saw the footage of it recoiling.
You can run ammo like American Eagle or PMC that is at the lower end of the 10mm spec and the recoil will be closer to the G29 or a .40.
+Hammer Striker .. Armscor ammo seems to have decent charge from what i've seen in other chamberings.
+CLP Yes, it's actually pretty good ammo. I still want my Underwood when I head into the woods but the Armscor is excellent at the range.
I say just get both then you don’t have to worry about which one to buy. LOL!!!
Your comparison/opinion between the G20 and G21 would be cool. I think a lot of people may be deciding between those two.
+Matt Foster We have both and can add that to the list, thank you.
Great! And, how would a hot 45 acp round compare to 10mm for black bear protection?
Though .45 is a competent round and I sure don't want to stop one, 10mm is far superior against larger threats where penetration is critical. Even a hot .45 won't have the power and depth of penetration of an average 10mm, and a hot 10mm gets close to and can exceed .357 magnum power. On something like a bear, you have to drill through a lot of fat or a hard skull to hit something the critter cannot live without. If you only have a .45 then it will work, but if you are choosing and want something that will be effective on pretty much anything in the contiguous US then go 10mm.
Sounds like solid advice. Subscribe ✔️
Thank-you.
Does the recoil sting out the 29?
The Glock 29 can be a handful if you are recoil sensitive but it is not ridiculous. I actually think it is a milder recoil than the .40 equivalent.
No more than 45 ACP
kool video bro nice guns
+Chainsaw Massacre Thank you!
My G29sf gen 3 is in the process. ( Ca DOJ Jail, for 10 days)
I bought a Kimber 1911 in 10mm and I'm enjoying the round, if not the Kimber's temperamental break in period.
Looking forward to shooting the 10mm out of the 29 and making it one of my CCW.
+pinkiewerewolf You will really like the G29, it will most likely simply work on day one.
3:16 ... 26.83 lbs! Heavy gun! 🙂
Millibarman LMAO
That helps with the recoil.
great video, thanks
+sallykodesign Thank you.
may want to look into the spring that is stock on the 29. in know the gen 4 20 upgraded it so you dont HAVE to step up for hotter loads not sure if this is the case for the 29
I run the nastiest load Underwood offers in the 29 with no issues at all.
@@HammerStriker You can run anything with the stock spring but a steady diet of full power 10mm will beat the frame to death. Get a 22lb spring.
The Glock 29 IS a subcompact.
John Dee no it’s not lol
also the claim it is easily pocket carried is beyond a stretch lol
I regularly carry it in a front pocket, it all depends on your body and choice of clothing.
29 needs a slightly longer grip.... period. nothing will be lost... allot will be gained.
Respectively dissagree. I conceal carry a glock 30sf half the time and I couldnt conceal it if it has a longer grip. Same would transfer to the g29.
0:30 Terrible limp wristing when you shooting, The reason? How can you shoot with your thumb down?
You cannot control your gun with thumb down position... keep your thumb up or straight.
Hunter Killer Here you on that, but damn that right side Target is nearly spot-on!
Good video. You should do this professionally.
Thank you.
I’ve got both ! 😄
The 29 is a sub compact . They don’t offer 10mm in compact.
Could you please do Glock SF vs 40 in 10mm????!!!!
Which Glock are you referring to ? (Glock SF ?)
@@HammerStriker Sorry about that. The 20. These at both for sale at a local shop along with the 29. I'm lookin to get in to 10mm and glock seemed like a solid choice.
Pocket carry?
The 20 would be no in most cases, the 29 will be "it depends". I am a muscular guy with large legs so I can easily carry the 29 in cargo shorts and when I sit down it will lay flat on top of my leg and stay put. Smaller people will have problems with it wanting to slide to the side and maybe become visible. Jeans and other tighter fitting clothes would be a no-go.
Great video..I wish they were as easy to find today in 2021 as they were in 2016 :-/ Yay Democrats.
The glock web site , and all of us know that the Glock 29 is a true "SUB COMPACT" not as close to a sub compact but a real compact... I would love Glock to make a 20x taking the slide off of the model 29 and putting it on the Glock 20 """""lets call it the Glock 20x"""""
the G29 is a subcompact, not compact
man its rampaging
Weighs 26.8 lbs!?
+Adam Bees An on-screen text corrected that statement to ounces.
26.83lbs???
9mm feels better, 10mm works better
Wow 26.83 pounds for the 29.... must be a bitch carrying on a hunting trip.
is the glock 20sf same size as glock 19?
Thank you for such an in depth answer..
+GARAGE “DAprojectTuRtle” BUILT You may find that the 29 is pretty close to the 19 in size. It's shorter, but thicker.
So is the glock 29 the measurements most people wanted the 19x to be?
Pretty much, though the 29 is thicker (like the 30)
Word
Who the heck would want a “compact” 10mm. IMHO 10 is a silly caliber for concealed carry self defence.
How the hell is it silly
So instead of making a G23 sized 10mm they make one that's really too small for a hot10mm and one that too big for concealed carry so they end up selling more because there's no goldilocks 10mm version instead of giving you what the public wants. And don't tell me you can put a 15 rnd mag in the g29 because that still doesn't address the esthetics(looks crappier than a glock normally looks).
Finally, when Glock will start making grip reduced versions for people with smaller hands? Do they want to increase sales?.
The Glock 29 is not a compact, It is a Subcompact, Go look on Glocks website.
The 29 is 1/4 shorter than the 19 so I would agree it's a compact
Call it what you want it's a compact.
G29 for me haven't seen any bears running around lately.
