    Thanks, you saved me $150! Bought the part on ebay and installed it myself. Then I paid myself the $150 and bought something else! Thanks sir.

    If your key won't move the ignition, you need to drill out the pin. But to note, the pin will rotate with the drill bit. It's possible to do, but difficult. No way to really hold it, just takes time.

    My 1997 TOYOTA 4Runner had a similar issue, Unfortunately mine would not turn at all not even to the Accessory position, so I had to drill the little release pin out - then everything just popped out like your video shows. I found my local Autozone had the part called 1997 "4runner ignition lock cylinder". The new cylinder had a fresh release pin assembly (thank u) and came with keys, I just aligned the slot on the new cylinder to the flat rod in the existing housing and slid the cylinder in. Thanks again your video helped me greatly.

    if you cant get key to turn, you can just drill out the pin instead of the whole lock cylinder. just take your time and dont drill into the aluminum housing. it will pop right out

    Hi C, My 2000 Toyota Four runner sometimes the ignition doesn’t want to start. It will start eventually if I try enough times when it hasn’t been driven. Sometimes if I lean on the ignition a few times it will start. Do you or anyone else here think this may be an ignition switch issue? The guy I bought it from told me that he had put a new ignition switch in it before I bought it.

    Thanks for posting this video, mobile mechanic #1 said it would be a minimum of $280 to replace my PreRunner's ignition lock, mechanic #2 said it would be "several hundred" and he'd know after coming out to assess. After watching your video, I drove to O'reilly's, paid $69 for the cylinder, in about 12 MINUTES I was completely done, so you saved me hundreds from being ripped off.

    @George or if you get a new lock cylinder with keys that come with transponder chips, then yes you have to have those keys programmed. Any key maker that is a small business usually can program them.

      Do you mean the plastic ring around the lock cylinder?

    • @F430FORME
      @F430FORME 8 років тому

      No, I got it. It was the cover from the dashboard w/ the wood grain finish. I did all of this, added the new part, and it still doesn't work. My key turns freely in the ignition.

    • @crappy60
      @crappy60  8 років тому

      +F430FORME if a set of keys came with the new lock cylinder, the tumblers should be okay, if not it's possible that you have to set up the tumblers internally for the lock cylinder but from my memory I don't remember the mechanism being like that, check the cylinder outside of the housing where it sits for proper operation or look past it to see if anything is broken so we can rule out the ignition lock cylinder

    mine decided in my 01 tacoma to stop working today i cant get it to acc is there a problem

    • @crappy60
      @crappy60  10 років тому

      It is most likely something mechanically happening inside the lock cylinder that is preventing the key from turning. I know this may sound silly but have you jiggled the key while it is inserted in the lock? That can some times make it also if you lock the steering wheel make sure to turn it and relieve pressure applied from having the steering wheel locked, another tip also is to look for some graphite to lubricate the internals. If there are still problems, you will have to change out the unit. Hope this info helps. Good luck

    • @crappy60
      @crappy60  7 років тому

      +crappy60 I mean it will turn over just won't start.

    • @crappy60
      @crappy60  7 років тому

      Annette Uhrich, do your old keys have a chip inside? If so, you might have to re-code your new keys, most key makers and the dealer can program the key. It was a security option in that time. Make sure you have your old keys to they can go from that. It was a safety measure so that if anyone copied a key they wouldn't be able to steal the vehicle unless they have the key with the programmable chip inside.

    • @annetteuhrich7599
      @annetteuhrich7599 7 років тому

      +crappy60 I do have them. but I need to figure out how to program the new ones

    • @crappy60
      @crappy60  7 років тому

      Annette Uhrich okay, you'll have to find a key maker in town that can program the new key or go to Toyota and have then program it. The local key maker will be cheaper

  • @crappy60
    @crappy60  11 років тому

    @George The new ignition lock cylinder being installed has its own keys cut for it so the keys in particular do not have chips in them. If you have a 4Runner and it has transponders inside it's keys then you have to get new keys made for the new lock cylinder going in and have them programmed from your old set of keys.
