- Raglan is a coastal town in the west coast, Waikato region of New Zealand’s North Island. It’s known for black-sand Ngarunui Beach, pancake rock formations as well as Bridal Veil Falls just a short drive away.
We chose an accommodation conveniently located between Hamilton and Raglan to stay at. Mike's Airbnb in Te Pahu was very spacious and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay along with the peacefulness of the rural countryside too.

First stop of the day was Bridal Veil Falls aka Waireinga. A dramatic plunging waterfall with multiple different view points to enjoy its beauty from varying perspectives.
For lunch we ate at a popular fish & chips shop called Raglan Fish. They also sell fresh and smoked fish as well as other seafood. Definitely a great spot right by the water too!

After our delicious lunch we made our way over to Raglan Kayak & Paddleboard on Bow Street Jetty to rent ourselves from kayaks. We kayaked over to Raglan's pancake rocks which are natural limestone rock formations that look like pancakes.
Raglan Kayak & Paddleboard gave us a quick refresher lesson on how to kayak and provided life jackets as well as dry bags for our use which was handy. They're usually open 9am-5pm daily but we strongly recommend calling them to check their opening times just in case they're still operating on reduced hours.
Also it pays to check the wind and tide forecast too for easier kayaking conditions:

Ummm yes you're right it is a ceviche, in rarotonga is called ika mata and in Samoan its called okka. Def needa try this spot if you go to raglan soooo good 🤤

Hahahaha Sue I'm sure you'll be ok a couple of times and you'll be able to do it for sure. It's pretty easy to catch a good feed from NZ waters 😊🤙

Great upload guys,loving it because I spent a lot of my formative years hooning around between Hamilton,and Raglan (and yes,even Te Pahu and Bridal Veil Falls). Back in the day,you used to be able to swim in that pool beneath Bridal Veil Falls,but it looks fenced off there. Anyhoo,Raglevegas is always a good time,and you can always find something to do - especially eating and drinking.
😯 wonder why it got blocked off seems like such a good swimming hole. While we were there some sneaky fellas climbed the sides to get in the water hahahaha can't resist especially on a warm day. When you say hooning around, are you into your cars Rob?
@@PeterandYen yeah,it's a great little pool to swim in on a hot day,but there were a few eels in there. And yes,that hooning I alluded to did have to do with cars. I've had a lot of V8s over the years,so a trip over to Raglan from Hamilton was always on the cards,a number of us Chrysler owners would do the cruise.
Nice that sounds awesome must have been real memorable times, I've always been a huge fan of JDM cars but couldn't afford one back in the day and still can't afford one now hahahaha
@@PeterandYen Haha,you'll get a flash car one day,but youre still getting to see our country regardless. But yep,back in the day-good times alright,especially with the old V8s,I do have to admit,back then,there wasn't the amount of options for eating out in Raglan. Sure there were always great places to eat,but there wasn't that great selection thats available now, like where you guys got that great fish and chip meal at Raglan Wharf,great views there of Aroaro Bay and Cox Bay,and further up to Waignaro. I'll be honest,you 2 certainly know where to find the best eating spots,look forward to your next vlog.

Raglan Fish was an awesome spot, and your food looked delicious! Peters fish looked so fresh and refreshing! We love kayaks and canoes, so we would have fun at this place and the price is affordable for sure. The pancake rocks are beautiful! Hey Peter and Yen!! so great to see you guys and very cool AirBnB!! Looks really comfy and spacious! The price wasn't bad per night at all! We always love places with full kitchens. Love the bathroom! Awww... the kitty!! Bridal Veil Falls seemed like a nice 10 minute walk, and what a stunning view from there! Love you're going to the lower deck as well. We would not be hiking any of that in sandals LOLOL!! The falls view at the bottom is stunning too.

Oh wow yeah this is such a great area and such wonderful landscape! Video popped up in suggestions so just had to watch! Wow that accommodation was amazing and awesomely priced too! I have never seen the log across the water, I will have to check next time! Yeah I have eaten at that Fish and Chips place, I remember was pretty good! Ah now Peter thinking about food again with the pancake rocks! Haha! Yeah that's a cool beach at the end too! Cool job! Also next time for good food, go to Orca Restaurant and Bar on corner just by walkway to bridge, food is super yummy! Good job on this!

Yesss! O my gosh I miss taro so much. We've been going to an island restaurant called Evelinas lately to get the taro and green banana fix 😂 our fav is the lamb lu sipi, chop Sui and then carb it up 🤤

When Peter said, “It’s only meant to be a ten minute walk which is nice and easy..” I thought here we go again for another 2 hour hike😁. Congrats on making the hike in the allotted time🎉! Gotta say, coconut cream + raw fish sounded interesting...never heard of it, but sounds tasty 🥥 🐟😋. Fun video as always (was crossing my fingers for a fish to jump into the kayak)! Be safe guys!
Ooooo you are in for a treat when you try it. Raw fish and coconut milk is a favorite in the Pacific Islands. It is a very popular dish there and many countries have their own versions. Simple but incredibly tasty. I'm glad we didn't go the wrong way either 😂 give us a let or right and we'll screw it up but with one path even we can't stuff it up 😂

Whenever we are in Raglan, we always go staright to the fish and chips by the wharf! So gooood!!!!!😋 and we might try the raw fish as well. Looks delicious!!

I do enjoy it too but not to the same level as Peter who wants to eat it every day hahaha 😄 we had some amazing ones in the Cook Islands (Rarotonga) and ever since then he fell in love 😆❤️🐟 Hmm can't remember why no thumbs up maybe I was harsher with this one coz we had that incredible Raglan fish n chips so comparatively preferred Raglan one or maybe I was just distracted by all the crazy wind lolol 🤣🤣

NZ in autumn: everybody in shorts and jandals just like most of the year.
Meanwhile, it is spring in Belgium: last week we had 25 degrees and sunshine. Today we are in full-on blizzard mode and temperatures have dropped by 25 degrees to freezing. (and I'm loving it!)

Our homes are of course adapted to our climate. We have excellent insulation and heating systems.

🤔 when I Google maps it, looks very difficult to get to and that side looks like a lot of private property. There is a raglan ferry tour as well if you prefer that option instead
Aloha, Peter and Yen! Since Peter loves raw fish, has he tried Hawaiian poke? A Native Hawaiian chef, Sam Choy has a fast-casual restaurant at Commercial Bay in Auckland called Sam Choy's Poke to the Max NZ. Try it, you won't be disappointed. Hope you find it delicious.
Ooooo thanks for the recommendation! Love poke used to eat it almost ever other day when I was working in New market. Been a huge dream to come to Hawaii and order up some poke from the local General stores 😍

Did you get to experience a few orca or dolphins out near your kayak?
Unfortunately not on our day but that would be awesome to have that.
I use to live there and many a weekend my friends and I would go out in boats either fishing, sailing or just cruising to the other side of the harbor and hike up and down the sand dunes.
We would launch the boats at that bay because the bar was never safe, even on a good day. It wouldn’t be long before a dolphin or two would swim with us and even a couple of orca would join in too. Orca are quite safe to be with if you dont bother them. They’ll come up to you, check you out before they bring the family to your boat.
