Finally some simple G without stupid flashy colors and readable display!
I'm just happy to finally have a 6600 especially in a such a stealthy matte black finish. Why they ever decided to discontinue the model is beyond me.
I bought both the refreshed '6600' watches. I would love more colourways.
I've got the square, I'm happy with it. I wanted a stealth square and I hate the inverted screens so it ticks all the boxes.
Trying to decide between the original DW5600BB-1 or this DWE5657RE-1
I love the inverted screen of the original one. But I can’t not have this limited edition!

watched this video to see a little more on the models, i’ve been contemplating the DWE-5657 as i appreciate the swappable bezel option. i think the text on the strap is perfectly fine, but honestly the gold keeper ruins it for me-potentially to the point of keeping me from purchasing. a pity as i quite like it otherwise. something to sleep on, i fathom.
No need to destroy them! Many people have already tried. Just send one of them to me!
G-Shock produce interesting bracelets - many of their stealth watches are best viewed in a film studio 🙂
If you buy the bright yellow 2100 - the hands and dial are visible - the yellow case and bracelet can be modified to suite your taste 🙂
These are boring but then they’re probably the most popular style of G-SHOCK around- matte black.
But there’s also the other 40th anniversary Recrystallized G-SHOCKs that definitely represent the louder style you’re looking for.
Some interesting thoughts Richard. I don't dislike the 40th anniversary releases but I have to agree that marking such an occasion could have been made with a better fanfare of new exiting watches. As for the destruction of any watch I'm not a fan but I would be interested in verifying that the watches still meet the spec that they had on release. Of course new versions should be tested as over time with all the bangs, knocks and button pushes the integrity could be reduced over time. Testing beyond the specification may not give a true view that all watches will beat the spec by the same amount, e.g. 5 out of 5 should meet spec of a drop of the design 10M, 4 out of 5 may meet 20M does not really meet a 20M drop spec. Many thanks for sharing, it's always interesting to hear the channels views and thoughts.
The only one worth getting in my opinion is the DW6640RE.
Maybe G-Shock was trying to balance out their ludicrous Clear Remix line.
The DW5040RX-7 screw-back square with a see-through LCD is the true 40th anniversary successor to the original g-shock in my opinion!
I kind of agree but also like the simplicity of them, they definitely fit in the G Shock family but probably not as 40th anniversary ones.
I thought the 40th anniversary G-Shocks were all see through, not matte black. I have just acquired the Clear Remix 40th Anniversary Edition DW-5040RX-7ER. Even the digital screen is see through.
Ok, try to destroy a G-Shock…and put the gold Moonwatch through the same test! No? Ok, a Moonswatch then? 😆😂🤣

I think you are correct that these are no longer supplied to the British Army. I used to work with an ex squaddie and he said that they used to be supplied to the BA but were told to take them off, when going on active service, whereby a standard tough quartz analogue watch would be used. I have just found out about Stirling Watches which is run by a currently serving British Army infantryman and he was fed up with these types of digital watches breaking or letting him down when he needed a reliable watch whilst on active service abroad, so he created his own watch company and tested them out on his comrades in the actual battle zones. They look really ‘meh’, and that’s why I haven’t purchased one. I was excited because both myself and G-shock turn 40 this year, but these fall short IMO. (Having been born that year, I kinda dig the “Since 1983” keeper as a personal note)
Casio should of done a colab (with another company) for their 40th
I would have appreciated more if Casio had a module with a 10 year battery life than all the gimmicks they keep coming up with. Yes, I know about the solar energy models, but they have modules today with both 7 and 10 year batteries. In my eyes, DW5657 is boring and bland, but some people probably like the minimalist expression. Would have liked the regular anniversary releases to have been reprints of different editions that are no longer made. I have a customized DW5730 with a DW5630 face. Love it.
