📚 Description: Trade Tuesday is back with another installment. This time we have a limited edition 2018 Gibson SG Junior Jr with the old pre-war Gibson style logo and the "Only a Gibson is Good Enough" banner on the back of the headstock. To make this example even better - the body has considerable flame figuring to it! There were also regular Les Paul Juniors with this fancy gibson logo done in 2018. This is one of those few times where I actually prefer the SG!

It does look very cool. I don't understand why they do those cheapo wrap-around bridges though, at the prices these things sell for there's no excuse not to equip them with badass.
Hey Trogly, I know you are a big fan of the 70's era gibsons. I also play 70's gibsons (es335/es355) and am totaly used to the narrow nut width of that time.
I find it rather dissapointing that gibson doesnt do this kinda nut witdh anymore. I was even more dissapointed that nut witdh size is not an option in the "made 2 measure" program. I would never buy a new Gibson with them giant necks and i guess i am not the only one. Whats your thoughts about this?
@@ShakinFit It's kind of funny how the big names typically don't allow even small variations like a couple millimeters at the nut, Gibson being one of the worst in that respect. I guess it reflects how much of a 'factory' builder they are, they want to do as many pieces as possible exactly the same to keep individual costs low, but that doesn't seem to be reflected in their prices so I suppose it goes to the margin. But many smaller builders will happily oblige, and charge you less than Gibson does as well.
Everytime u mention Brian Ray I think of Brian May and u should try to review one of his replica red specials if u can get ur hands on one. Would love to see that.

Single pickup guitars are a joy. Some think that the lack of another magnetic pickup pulling on the strings makes them more jangly. I agree there is a magical quality. I felt that when the demo began.

There was also a Les Paul Fouble Cutaway in TV Yellow that was a LE with that script logo too. I had one but sold it. Sounded good too. The good ole people from Gibson had the wiring all backwards too lol.

Trogly, I have a 2018 Gibson TV Yellow Les Paul DC Special that has the same old headstock logo. It has a bound neck and I’m pretty sure it was limited. It was $1500 New which seemed like a good deal. I love it! You should check them out if you haven’t already

5:15 you saying that reminded me of a independent made documentary that was posted on here about 2 years ago taken over a few weeks at the Nashville plant. Idk how much has changed since that time as far as internal operations go there, but basically Gibson was using temp to hire employees and on average were going thru roughly 100 new employees a month. Also, workers were describing just how shitty in general it was to work there. That turnover rate really gave a good explanation as to why Gibsons qc was suffering so bad at the time. Still honestly kinda is tbh tho it's hit or miss with them. I understand how bad the younger employment of the US is as I'm in that age group ( 25 ) personally I've always worked very hard and have been in management for 5 years now, but honestly for the price Gibson charges, they really need to have skilled craftsmen working their production lines, not temp to hires who don't give a shit about their job or integrity of the product they're producing. Let alone the fact that 90% of them are only working there a few weeks and quitting or getting fired. With a turn over rate as high as they were having that had to of been the case. That short documentary really opened my eyes to just where that company was. This was also around the time they were dealing with the bankruptcy. Still tho, for the price you pay for their stuff, it should be like how it used too and Gibson should be hiring and treating the right people the best they can so they can work there long enough to actually warrant the price of their instruments. " Made in the USA " doesn't quite hold the same standard as it once did unfortunately...
I am glad you posted that, it explains a lot. I've seen some new Gibsons in shops that I couldn't believe actually left the factory. They had in-your-face things wrong with them that you wouldn't see on $200 guitars. This is top managements fault. The wealthy in America keep demanding more and more profit and something's eventually gotta give. People can take their trickle down theory and shove it.

Just seeing this for the first time very cool guitar being an SG player and fan of that model never had one of those but that particular one is outstanding great toned, beautiful woods, figuring love the old historic logo very cool I would definitely buy that and play the living hell out of it
That's a nice guitar. I think they should put a lightening wrap bar instead for better intonation.

It's funny, I have one of these and wasn't playing it so I decided to throw it up on Reverb today only when I went to describe it, nothing showed up exactly like it. I didn't realize I had one of them until I looked into it. I always thought it just had the script logo. Great guitars!

I have one of these. Very early production number. I bought it in October of 2017. $980 shipped. By Feb of 2018 they had jumped to $1249. Then I seem to recall another jump to $1449. Killer guitars if you like the SG Jr vibe. If you want it, you'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

I have one of these Banner SG Juniors. In fact mine is among the first 100 built. I have well over a dozen Gibson SGs. Most are high end maple tops. The 2018 LE SG Jr is among my favorites. I paid only $900 brand new. I was way ahead of the curve on this one. Great guitar. Mine is a one piece.

Much nicer than I wold have expected ( lovely wood grain) the & the P90 sounds really good w/some distortion. I love p90s & when you have only one in the neck pos. the strings can really ring out without being dampened by the magnetism of the neck PU. Gives this style a little more tone.

Was tempted to buy this from you. I could tell I wouldnt like the neck profile though. I think I actually dont like ribbon mahogany on these anymore because of the way Epiphone does that ribbon veneer, which woudlnt be bad but I dont like how the veneer isnt on the carved horns.. SO anyway great guitar but I think I like a plain mahogany, and a thicker neck! Happy to see someone grabbed it from you though.

Is that really the original factory wiring and pickup? The pickup sticker clearly says 08/12/19, which is a pretty suspicious date for a 2018 guitar....
avidday2407 knowing Gibsons from that era it was probably a typo
@@ReadMyNameThanks But the guitar has a 2018 serial number and is called a 2018 model. If it had earlier dated pickups that would make sense. But not later. I am guessing the original pickup and possibly the original board for the tone circuit have been changed out with what we see. He even notes surprise that it doesn't have the wiring on a board in the video, like just about every line product Gibson of recent times does

Trogs! You seem to like a mid 60’s style oval shaped neck. May I suggest your next fender be an American Original Series 60’s telecaster custom with the double binding. I have several now that I’ve found their necks to be similar in feel to a ‘59 Les Paul and or a ‘64 335. Plus they pack a Paul like punch with single coil
clarity.

I always thought it was a weird decision to use this headstock logo when I first saw these, was slightly disappointed when I first saw these as they didn't have the 'proper' logo as Gibson hadn't made a proper junior for a few years and I really wanted one haha. Luckily the 2019 models came around.

The era where they almost made some cool guitars but just had to add some "feature" to ruin it, in this case it's the logo but other times it's an inlay on the 12th fret, robot tuners, or a crazy wide nut. They always ruined it somehow.
If you really want to test that thing you crank up the gain and play some Sabbath. Iommi used P90s on the first three albums, if I remember right.
He had an SG special, and it was just a backup in case something happened to his Strat.... well something happened to it. Lol he never looked back.
