Dolly Parton plays a holographic version of herself and sings "Try" (a song from her album, "Blue Smoke") to an alien fan in The Orville, Season 3, Episode 8, "Midnight Blue". Please Subscribe! - Розваги
I love how her dolly obsession is like a joke that keeps on giving. It's still as funny as ever but also beautiful and enlightening in moments like these!
It started as a joke but Dolly is actually a great example of female power. She's used being herself as a way to do a lot of good over the years and give voice to people who need it.
Seasons two and three of the Orville managed to walk that line between humor and heartfelt struggle with a touch of optimism. It's a rare accomplishment. I can only think of two shows that even come close (SG-1 and maybe Farscape).
@@hagamapama Dolly is feminist icon all women should appreciate and love.
This really brought tears in my eyes. Im so glad Dolly decided to cameo on Orville.
Yeah, this was a great emotional scene in a great emotional episode! Thanks for commenting, @rockmanx00777!
This scene was awesome but I honest to god cried when Klyden came back.
Do you know if she is on the app cameo
@@TJMoore-yt3ur He got his redemption.
I cried shut up
“By the gods!”
I would probably react the same way if Dolly walked through the door. What a goddess.
Right? Her looks aren't her attraction for me, but I get it, and still I would be dumbfounded.
@@christiandavis2916 When I was younger I thought she was kind of a silly joke, but then I learned about all the beautiful songs she has written. She still sounds amazing.
Check out her Drunk History episode.
She's still got it all these years later. Got the body, got the mind. If the Orville wants to attempt to rebrand her as an intellectual, seems to me she's worthy of that
@@hagamapamashe’s also branded her self as a bimbo with nothing going on upstairs for her own advantage
That's pretty much what my dad said when he first saw Dolly on The Val Doonican Show (in the 70's)!
I gasped the moment she came on. I was like, "They got Dolly!"
Same here! It was an awesome moment! And soon the tears were rolling... Thanks for commenting, @VideoMaster40k!
@@startreknitpickers5838 I know what you mean I was tearing up too when she started singing. I was more surprised how great she looked after seeing her in Pitch Perfect.
Orville is the Trek we were looking for, I love this show
It looks like Star Trek, sounds like Star Trek, feels like Star Trek, conveys hope like Star Trek.
@@hagamapama Yup Yup, The Orville = Trek
The Enterprise was definitely missing a bard. Every starship needs a singing helmsman. The other thing this does better than any recent Trek is creatively exploring current social issues. Invent some alien gender politics and see the ways they can go wrong. It doesn't try to tell you what to think. It just encourages you to think.
I must confess I never believed I would see a legend like Dolly Parton on a Seth MacFarlane production.
I smiled when they walked into Haveena's home and 9 to 5 was playing, laughed to see Dolly's picture on a wall of worship, then CRIED when Dolly walked into the cabin and sang TRY. In these days of horror, how uplifting. Thank you Seth!
I assume, based on guessing and the dialogue, that the cabin is a reproduction in Dollywood. Which is genius marketing. Now all the Sci Fi freaks have to go to Dollywood to cover the board. Dolly covers all the angles.
And Heveena kneels in front of her. LOL
@@christiandavis2916 it was a set that they build in Hollywood and split it and trucked it all the way to Nashville just for dolly to do the scene because she wanted to do the scene but didn't want to get on a plane an fly to los Angeles
When the women were outside by the fire dancing , the instrumental song in the back ground was Jolene . Nice touch !
@@johnd.4286 I love the melody. Reminds me of Chrono Cross.
Dolly Parton is a treasure to the world and I will hear no words against that.
But, but, she has Frankstein's monster toes! ;)
She absolutely is.

As Gene Roddenberry helped further immortalize Shakespeare, Mozart, and Sinatra, Seth MacFarlane did Dolly Parton. God bless you, Seth.
One of my favorite things about this show is the musical choices. In tng we often got talent shows with classics and now they have talent shows with new classics that fit the story perfectly. I just love how every nod to tng is so thoughtful and not just a wink at the camera
My goodness, even Barry Manilow gets a mention in this show.
Oh, I think they and she were already immortalized by their own efforts. But I understand what you mean.
Amazing that Seth is out here making the BEST Trek.
Couldn’t agree more!
Dolly just has a way of making everything better.
Since I was a lonely little kid, yes. Dolly earned being Dolly.
Dolly Parton is a national treasure in any century.
Dang, she's still got it after all these years
She never lost it!
She was CGI de-aged, but it must have been a really easy day for the CGI staff.
Yeah 400 years later she’s still amazing.
Dolly was so great in a fantastic episode. The instrumental music the female Moclans were playing at their camp prior to the cameo sounded an awful lot like "Jolene" as well.
I had to laugh because Netflix captioned it, "Soulful Alien Music" but it was definitely Jolene :)
it was "Jolene".Scratch ver.
@@Caesar316 Haha. I noticed that too. Didn't fool me. 😉
I recommend looking up “Jolene medieval cover” on UA-cam. It’s really catchy and sounds like what was heard in the episode

Dolly! What a cameo!! That shot of the Orville leaving orbit is amazing. The ship leaving the cloud before jumping to earth the visual effect are amazing.
Truly, a visual feast.
Yeah, the music and the visuals just work so well together
I really do feel like this moment was when The Orville came of age as a show. I really hope it's allowed to continue. I want to see more of Seth's vision
@@hagamapama I fully agree with this. The Orville went from being a tribute to Star Trek, to a show and universe in its own right.
@@hagamapamastarted watching last week to see what I’ve been missing. Holy fuck! So good.
The scene of the Orville travelling through the nebula with the background music really works especially with the ship’s name reflected by the lights.
There should be a law that requires all series to have dolly in an episode. She is an american ambassador to the world.
She is an Ambassador of Earth to the Universe!
To the world and beyond.
true
Dolly could solve all the Galaxy's problems with her songs 🙂
See Paramount this is how you make science fiction!
The Orville have a great soundtrack of music!!
What a good song with Dolly Parton!!!
I can’t even put into words how much I love watching The Orville
I was skeptical but that was awhile ago. The music is on point, the writing is spotty at times but has flashes of absolute genius and they're starting to find their voice and tell new stories not part of the original Strek. This is a franchise that needs to live and grow!
To kaylon and back 2418 times
This is one program the "Enterprise" holodeck doesn't have. Well done!!
Star Trek started to take itself too seriously somewhere down the one. The Orville is youthful and full of potential and has attracted a lot of passionate people. Star Trek is too hung on past glories and needs to be shaken up somehow, get some passion back into the project.
@@hagamapama Totally agreed. "The Orville" is a brilliant attempt to take the best of 'Star Trek' ideas and visions while not taking itself too seriously with moments like this. Wish the folks in Paramount would've taken notice of it and try to make more "New Trek" series emulating its formula (SNW perhaps)??
everytime i have seen this clip and even watched it over and over on hulu, it gets me every damn time. I love it when the camera shows Haveena and there is a tear in her eye. I love it when dolly still singing and Haveena comes in and talks to Captain Mercer. Especially love it when he comes on the bridge and gives the order to go to earth. Just shows how serious captain mercer is. I just cant say anything else how much i love this show.
Dolly does indeed speak with the voice of a thousand warriors. And she speaks with the heart of ten million more.
This is the positive star trek I wanted but it's weird that it's coming in this form.
@Superkuh it's not what anyone would have guessed back when TNG and DS9 were on and Family Guy was a new thing...
@@startreknitpickers5838 Even as recently as 2010, I would have thought it was a bad idea for the guy who made Family Guy to do a Star Trek like show. I would have guessed it would be non-stop bathroom humor.
@@John-ct9zs The first season did have a decent amount of bathroom humor, especially if you count the 'Jaloja' episode that got pushed back to the start of 2.
Seth MacFarlane is a massive trekkie. Initially, this was going to b a Star Trek series but the CBS Execs said no, so Seth made his own Star Trek styled universe
I really do expect them to encounter the Enterprise someday. DIsney has to buy Trek first I guess. The sfx are invading Star Wars territory now, and the new set design is killer.
I was grinning from ear to ear during the whole cameo. She’s so amazing!
A very respectable guest appearance by this country music GOAT!
Always a pleasure to see and hear Dolly Parton, no matter where in the universe.
Dolly has a way of making everything seem better. “In order to see the rainbow you have to put up with the rain.” Dolly
Dolly really are the gem of the world, I'm so happy she's in the orville cameo
Another Darn good Orville episode. Please, RENEW THE ORVILLE !!!
My brain broke 1 second after she walked on screen.
...and kept breaking as The Orville turned into a Dolly Parton video.
Dolly Parton is a national treasure. And that might be understating it.
THE BEST SHOW ON TV, BETTER THAN STAR TREK
I struggled with the first couple of episodes of the Orville as the Star Trek similarities mainly the good parts of Star Trek where are a bit on the nose but what they've actually created is something awesome and every show is a treasure in itself. Just like Firefly it is wonderfully scripted and should be seen by more people.
Best part is that unlike Strek a lot of the lore for the Orville is still malleable. They can create new races to suit their needs like TOS and TNG did, because the map isn't full yet.
I know celebrities tend to look younger then they really are but still Dolly Parton has aged gracefully for a woman in her 70's
The best Orvill6 episode..I cried..laughed and Dolly kicked ass...incredible
My fave to date too. Whacky and serious, facile and deep, all in the same scene, over and over and over. Seth mainly conducting his creation from the side, like a great coach. Weird funny bits in the middle of excruciating social commentary. $&%& definitely gets real, to a Breaking Bad level this time, I thought, and somehow we are gently chuckled out of leaving the episode with that heavy vibe.
@@christiandavis2916 Wasn't this also the episode where Bortus rescues his daughter and brutalizes the Moclan who hurt her?
And the one where Klyden tearfully apologizes for years of bigotry and intolerance?
This one episode has more heart than some whole Star Trek seasons. And that's not necessarily a nock on Star Trek. This episode is the Orville's answer to absolute rockstar Trek episodes like "The Measure of a Man." This is a high water mark for the series.
And the best part is that it exceeds even those Trek episodes because of the payoff of 3 whole seasons of tension. Trek has almost never allowed personal conflicts to simmer for this long, and it makes the payoff/release so much sweeter.
the Orville showed Paramount how it was done with this episode! If this is where it ends then this episode is probably going to be the Orville's signature episode. The one people analyze in order to see a show's heart and what makes it go.
Dolly Parton: Well there you are! Welcome!
Me and haveena: BY THE GODS!
How can you not love Dolly Parton.
I can't believe what an unexpected impact the juxtaposition of comedy, Bluegrass Country music, feminism, Dolly Parton, Seth MacFarlane, Gene Roddenberry, Star Trek, and Science Fiction made. It's a complex tapestry that gives me chills and tears and it built up so many layers over time. I get to share so many conversations with my ftm son from his transition all the way back to 9 to 5 women's rights.
THIS is ONE of the reasons why The Orville is the TRUE successor to Gene's vision! 🥲
Absolutely brother
See I like the orville because I think it's more grounded in reality. Gene had an altruistic view of the future with no conflict, but the human conflicts make the orville seem more human. Roddenberry gave us star trek but once he passed away star trek added more human conflict that made the show better imo and the orville just went right out the gate with that feel
I'm bingeing watching The Orville now on Disney+, and it's just so good! The cast, the writing, the black humour, the music and the production values are all excellent.
Love Dolly. Every song has a message and nowadays this one is so appropriate! Thank you 🌞
I agree, @T.L. Freedom! Thanks for your comment!
As a singer AND a songwriter she is still at the top of her peak. Where she's been on and off for 50 years. Leave some for the rest of us, Dolly!
Dolly is a timeless classic
I saw her dress today at the bristol casino in bristol tennessee. talked about it, then saw her on the orville. they when she mentioned our little neck of the woods here in Tennessee. i was so excited. to mention our smokie mountains on one of my favorite shows was really a treat! She does make appearances once in a while at Dollywood in close to where i live in Pigeon Forge.
Awesomeness, @Andrew Gaylor! Long live the Smokie Mountains!
I've heard of her but never really listened to her music, but damn was it good. She has an amazing voice.
RIght? Dig into her catalogue. Dolly singing harmony to Dolly in Love is Like a Butterfly is a good place to start.
This episode was so beautiful.
I won't lie, this brought tears to my eyes when I saw it on The Orville. Thank you Dolly.
The music, the color of the nebula and the way the Orville looks almost like its swimming through the clouds is really an amazing sequence

Orville flying through the nebula before going to Quantum has to be one of the best visual effects in a show in years. Simply beautiful.
I screamed and then cried.
Gotta admit, most celebrities might lose their thunder after a time, but Dolly still has it
"If you do the right thing in the here and now, the future has a way of taking care of itself."
This is not Trek. This show has evolved into its own place. This is The Orville, long may she fly.
Still looks like an angel
She still looks fabulous for a lady of her years, but not quite _that_ fabulous. There was a little digital help. The makers of the show felt, quite rightly I think, that if a future holographic technology was to simulate Dolly, it would be an idealised Dolly, so with her permission, they de-aged her by about 25 years.
Pretty sure she’ll be loving this result, though, as she’s always been meticulous about her public appearance, but sadly time stops for no one, not even someone as fabulous as Dolly.
Dolly is into everything! 🤗
That was their best episode
God this show is so damn good. 😊
Dolly an icon in every galaxy/timelines

Dolly's scene and song was pivotal to one of the finest written episodes on TV. Thanks Seth and the Orville writers for bringing an American Icon to space and bringing her music to a new audience.

Thank y'all for listing the song and album reference. This scene made me cry in a good way. It was great to see Dolly Parton and Rena Own (Heveena). -- I had relatives from the Appalachian mountain country in Virginia. -- I loved the episode. I sure hope they renew the Orville.
This is amazing! I love it! Renew The Orville!
That came out of nowhere and SOMEHOW worked amazingly! Great episode!
DAMMMMN, that ship looks soooooo good flying through the nebula. Such a huge difference from season 1
Always wondered if she knew they used her for inspiration in this show. Guess now I know the answer is yes 🤣
Now that Betty White and the Queen are both gone despite being seen as immortal icons, we need to wrap Dolly Parton in bubble wrap to keep her safe
For being a satire Orrville is so powerful.
Dolly Parton will always be my one true love. What a perfect person.
May Dolly live forever!
Loved this song. Why does country music work so well with sci-fi ship montages? Guess we have Firefly and Cowboy Bebop to thank. Long live The Orville!
They really need to do season 4 cuz just how Ed (Seth mcfarland)I love it how serious he has got then season and it can't end. I just live this show sooo much.
#RENEWTHEORVILLE Thanks for your great comment, @Brad Dollahite!
Hammer Song und Super Text von Dolly. TOP-Video
Awesome scene in what is, hands down, the best episode of The Orville to date. We needed this right now.
People keep comparing Star Trek to Orville, and I do as well. But few episodes of Trek have been both up and down on an emotional roller coaster. Orville is doing it danged near every episode now. And yet, they still make me laugh my ass off, every time I think, "If this were Star Trek... LOL, this ain't Trek!"
When I've seen Trek spoilers, I could often guess where they were going with it. Orville? Oh man, I can't wait to watch! Even when I know where they'll end up, the ride is so danged well written! When I saw the change of actors for Topa, that Klyden would be back, that we would see Heveena again? I just had to know HOW.
Trek almost never had me crying and smiling at the same time. Orville does it constantly.
after I saw this, I cried 😊
My heart belongs to Dolly and now the Orville
The show has soo many great wallpaper potential.
I'm not sure who I respect more: Dolly for appearing on the show, or the show for having her appear and sing. I kind of stopped watching The Orville, but this makes me want to restart. I can't think of another SciFi series that has used a contemporary musician like this.
Go Dolly! #theorville

From everything I’ve heard Dolly Parton is really this humble as a person.
God i love this show and Dolly Parton was just the icing on the cake for this episode. She is a true music legend and a gift to humanity.
I really hope this show continues. To cancel it but allow the abomination created by Alex Kurtzman to continue is nothing short a crime against entertainment.
I love that the Orville lets us see something we consider fairly normal, through the lens of an enthralled alien struggling to give voice to an underclass of people, to highlight Dolly Parton's underexplored intellectual properties. This is EXACTLY the lens Star Trek gives us to see the world through and maybe highlight something about ourselves that we hadn't considered before.
This isn't just Star Trek, it's PEAK Star Trek.
I am thankful television moments were allowed to happen, I just hope that nobody comes along in the future and say "this was inappropriate" and causes it to be hidden away from the masses.
I would've done the Avatar Foaming Mouth Kyoshi Island Guy if that happened to me - the female Moclan held true 😂😂
Dolly Parton is an absolute national treasure lol
