Ian Anderson said he took up the flute because he couldn't play guitar like Clapton. I'd like to see Clapton play this. Massive props to you on this. It's amazing.
At a JT concert in London many years back, Ian Anderson announced he was going to play the flute intro to "The Whistler" backwards and I thought, wow, this should be good. He turned his back on the audience and played it normally. What a character. Brilliant musician.
Amazing rendition of this song...as usual. Both guitar and vocals are wonderful. Andrea is the next best thing to listening to Ian when he was in his prime.
I’m back! This is where I go to get inspired to pick up my guitar when I’m being lazy. I’ve got about half of this Tull masterpiece down, but like I said I get lazy and put the guitar on the stand for to long. To be honest, your cover is the first time I heard this song. Don’t know how I missed it after all my years loving Jethro Tull. Anyway, aside from your amazing play, I think your voice is stellar and pleasing to the ears. Thank you for sharing.
Hello to everybody. I take this opportunity to tell you that at the moment I'm working on a new album of his unreleased songs written in Italian language after 3 albums self-produced in English language: "Surrounded By Music" (2007), "Mad Fallen Leaf" (2009 - with 3 past-members of Jethro Tull as guests - Clive Bunker, Jonathan Noyce and Andrew Giddings and also with Gary Pickford-Hopkins - vocalist of "Wild Turkey" and of Rick Wakeman of the band "Yes" and Paolo Bonfanti - bluesmand and guitarist of the band "Slow Feet" with Franz Di cioccio and Lucio Fabbri - PFM -) and "Blue" (2015). The new album it is called "Idea" and you can find also some "bonus tracks" of some songs on the new album sung in English language. There's a Musicraiser campaign...you can find all the information here: www.musicraiser.com/it/projects/7354-idea-il-nuovo-album Your support is very important for the success of this "Idea" and I'm galvanized by almost 50 events of my "SoloAcustico" proposed live in different location in Italy in the last year and a half where I play and sing in "unplugged" way for over two hours of uninterrupted music with an huge songs list that is extrapolated from my 3 cds and that includes a lot of interpretations of historicals great songs from the 60's to today. Any reward will give you the right to have your name entered in the cd booklet list of Raisers! Out of Italy is only available the pre-order of the cd "Idea" with contribution range from 15 to 35 euros. :-) All the best. AV
This is just great! It's in the wrong end to start I know but when teaching myself guitar I like to play Jethro Tull songs. Needless to say I love your videos :)
you are a freaking boss. One of the best Ian Anderson afficianados anywhere. I am sure Paul and Marcie Forrest would thoroughly enjoy playing with you. They probably have. Thank you Andrea
Anyone who performes this song is 1) talented 2) brave, and 3) a dedicated Tull fan. The Jack Hicko version sounded the most like Ian, the Marcelo version the most techincally correct, and your version the most passionate. Put them all together and you get the Jethro Tull version. You are all great in my book! Keep the Tull songs coming!
Unbelievable fantastic I love when you do tull .You're so technically proficient and you have the passion as well, the feel, the talent . I wish to God I had half your talent keep it up thank you for all the enjoyment. PS I also love your cover a cup of Wonder I've never heard that anybody doing that acoustically wonderful
Thank you for your criticism. Probably it was the second or the third time I played this song...and for me it was very difficult to play it...this video was like an improvvisation...I actually play this song better with all the right parts and also with the right final. In the other videos I always try to watch the camera. I'll try to do my best in the next video. Sorry for my english. Probably I'm not able to explane in the right way what I would like to say! Best wishes dear friend.
Ladies & gentlemen, I have a confession. I've just created an account on UA-cam because of a very direct reason: To express my gratitude & praise the works of people like Andrea Vercesi & Ian Anderson! Dear Andrea, you named the video "A little tribute to Ian Anderson genius," Well.. little?!! If I were Ian Anderson or any Jethro Tull member, I would be grateful to you for the rest of my life!!
Excellent playing! I am already subscribing to Jack & Silverhamer, now I am a subscriber of you as well. I have a few Tull songs myself (on drums), I will keep making more.
Thanks a lot for your comment! This is not a competition...but I invite my UA-cam friends Marcelo & Jack (and me too of course!) to work about this song because it's very hard to play it well...Marcelo did a great job with normal tuning but I think that there are some parts that are not in "tempo" (the first part for example) and some other that are really different (the part before the vocal for example).Come on guys! It's a hard work! :-)
Thanks a lot Spanish friend! I know that it's not a perfect version (there are some details...some little differences...the final part for example...details that I've already arranged! ) but I like this video because in this performance I played with heart and I was in a very good mood...italian wine...good company...don't you know?! :-)
Excellent cover Andrea, I wish I could play like you. I suspect the original may have been 2 guitars but don't know for sure. Please enlighten me if anyone knows?
Thanks a lot...I know you are right Marcelo. I play this song with the Open tuning DADGAD because in this way I can play "SALAMANDER" with just one guitar by myself. This is only a way to play this song! W ITULLIANOS! ;-)
Howdy Andrea man your guitar playing is out of this world now how about doing jack n the green and to old to rock roll but to young to die i'd tell you to keep up the good work but you already have Rich in WV
Why would Ian Anderson say he could not play guitar. He is a genius at every thing he does.
Ian Anderson said he took up the flute because he couldn't play guitar like Clapton. I'd like to see Clapton play this.
Massive props to you on this. It's amazing.

My favorite acoustic Tull! Freaking great for no overdubs, bro! I love it!! Stellar performance!
That was amazingly done sir. Tull has some really awesome acoustic work, and this, and Cold Wind To Valhalla are my 2 favorites.
Excellent job Bro
Absolutely brilliant version! Great job!

Beautiful playing. You really did this song justice!
I would listen to those songs, all day long 40 years ago. Takes me back.
This performance is brilliant. I've probably watched it 50 times. Keep up the good work!
Amazing rendition of this song...as usual. Both guitar and vocals are wonderful. Andrea is the next best thing to listening to Ian when he was in his prime.
