      I beg to disagree. I raised 3 boys, with sarcasm & responsibility. If I was a gun owner, And if I ever got called into the school because one of my sons, drew such horrific things on a worksheet. My first stop would be at home to see where the gun is. if said gun is missing, I would call the school and alert them as I drove to the school. She knew they bought that boy the gun 3 days before along with 100 rounds, it couldn't have slipped their mind. In fact, it was an emergency according to their texts, all other things aside, that's where they failed, having the knowledge no one else did and doing nothing. The Crumblys could have stopped the whole thing if ONE of them had gone to the house to see if the gun was still there. an ounce of prevention. Their not charged with murder, they are charged with involuntary manslaughter. @@Morbidhouse

    I really do think that Jennifer Crumley would have a better shot with a public defender. This attorney is so unlikable, whiny and narcissistic. I get trying to relate to the jury but this was just so disorganized and minimizes some pretty serious things that were going on in this case. I worry that the jury will focus on the fact that people often leave firearms unsecured in their home so that they can quickly access them in an emergency when they really should focus on the extreme neglect. It is clear from his statement at sentencing that if properly medicated, he is of very sound mind. But they never took him to a doctor and She gave him her own Xanax instead. These people never should’ve been parents. If you watch the Miller hearing, you will hear evidence of their extreme neglect, including leaving him home alone starting at age 6 and he would go to neighbors to beg them for help and to call his parents. Imagine leaving your six-year-old home alone! They also knew that he had a very serious fall at work at age 14 that was on video which is so unbelievably disturbing. They never even took him to the hospital or to the doctor for that. He hit his head so unbelievably hard on a metal cart.these parents are beyond deplorable.

    This is one of the most self-centered closing statements I have ever heard a defense attorney make. "I don't matter (but people are being so mean to me online!)" is a terrible take. Also, she has introduced the public perception of her case to a jury, who should remain impartial. That by itself is very iffy, and would have been regardless of which side made that comment. @awholelotofdoubting4880 6 місяців тому +8

      @@Morbidhouse I agree I could be a bit biased because of my dislike to her, but here are some points I thought regarding the actual statement:
      * "Context is important!" (but she did not give the counselor the necessary context to make a better choice that day, like him getting a gun and "acting depressed")
      * "Should I be liable if my kid sent a dirty pic, since that would be illegal in this hypothetical example?" Yes! You should be the one explaining these issues to your child, as well as monitoring their phone use if you believe they are not emotionally ready to face these situations, were they to arise.
      * "My kid said lights were flickering and she would probably sound like a crazy person out of context" Personally, I would not consider a person to be crazy if they say their lights are flickering, not to mention her husband actually dealt with the situation and was able to provide an answer to the child's issue. Her client did not investigate, and this was a much more worrying statement
      * The whole approach of trying to make her client seem to be a "helicopter parent" was very damaging. It would have been a good defense, if she had actually been able to prove enough cases of her mother's involvement in her child's life. She did not know her child's supposed "friends", decided to medicate him without consulting a doctor first, did not appear worried when he was described as "acting drunk" after medication, was not aware of him missing school, was proven to not take the meeting with the counselor seriously enough from the get-go by telling her boss she would be back "in an hour at most", decided to take him to the gun range without the parent in charge of gun care being present, etc, etc.
      * "I could be on the stand any day!" would be a good approach... and then you hear her speak about her children. Speaking only for myself, I felt she was not a very caring mother. Of course, I do not know her or her children, so I would take this point with a pinch of salt.
      Again, I might be biased, you are absolutely right! But even after removing her personality, I disliked her strategy, not to mention -again- how often she referenced to how she was being ridiculed on tiktok, even after saying she should not be important in the equation. I partially agree with the approach of saying "hey, we parents all feel like this/can relate to that/could be the next one on trial". I think that's effective. I still feel it is insufficient

I am a working mom too and its very very difficult to balance. However, it doesnt absolve you of your duty as a parent. • @AngieLea
      @AngieLea 6 місяців тому +3

      We cant forget though that they did not break the law when that gun was purchased for Ethan. Its legal to buy a gun for minors with parental consent for certain purposes ie hunting target practice etc. Its also not illegal to have your guns unsecured although it changes in April i believe. Thats the law in Michigan. They knew ethan was down which is why i believe she went to the gun range with him because she was trying to bond with him. The only time the school raised a red flag was the day they had the meeting. The psychologist even admitted they did not ask them to take him home and that he was better off around his peers which he stated he wanted to do. Remember this shooting happened a couple of hours later. He already had that gun in his back pack. Nobody had an inkling he had violent tendencies towards others only suspected perhaps he did towards himself. Even the female teacher who he didnt shoot said she thought no way could she believe it was Ethan. This case is being tried on emotion and i understand it was tragic but we cannot have emotions when it comes to criminal cases. Personally i would never allow guns anywhere near any children but its not about what we think its about the law and did it rise to a high enough level to convict her of manslaughter.

      You also represent the same types of individuals that were also jurors in an attempted murder trial when I was the foreperson. There were only two of us who left out our personal beliefs, and stuck to the evidence presented at trial. The others gave speeches about interracial, relationships, race, and their personal views on gun ownership. Thankfully, the jury ended up being hung, and a woman Avoided being sentenced to 25 years in prison for a crime she did not commit.

    As a fellow criminal defense attorney I try to avoid criticizing other attorneys, and especially avoid being extremely harsh or critical, however, I have to say I find this defense attorney so incredibly offensive and unprofessional. I see people saying that they enjoy or relate to her, but she is absolutely unprofessional and is not comporting herself in the way expected of attorneys in a court of law during this “closing argument.” This is embarrassing. It’s absolutely all about her and I cannot understand or fathom why she is talking about herself and her newfound “tic-tok fame” in a trial regarding the slaying of four young individuals. Her ability to make this about herself, bringing up Tic-Tok approximately a thousand times (only tik-toks regarding her of course…), minimizing/or even ridiculing the defendant’s son’s mental health and the lack of concern that his mother had toward him and his clearly impaired mental health, and most offensive of all: her completely flippant attitude and manner of speaking despite the absolutely horrific set of facts in this case, regardless of the defendant’s guilt or lack thereof. I’m truly sickened by this attorney and I’ve never made such a strong and negative statement about a fellow attorney.
    However, I don’t think she gives a shit about her client. She wants to be a celebrity apparently. Calling the killer’s cries for help, “goofy” is beyond the pale. Fuck her.

    How do people still not realize that the trial is not about whether or not she knew he was going to shoot up the school? It’s about the negligence in providing access to a firearm to a minor, one in which was mentally struggling. Of course they are bringing up foreseeability, but really that’s not in question. This could be any individual, hence why calling attention to the importance of responsible firearm storage/access. It is setting precedent for parent’s responsibility when giving a minor assess to a firearm, not for any gift ever given to them.

    • @raheppe
      @raheppe 6 місяців тому +1

      They have to prove she was overly negligent and those people, me, are telling you that to prove that then they need to provide direct evidence that she actually knew and did nothing to stop it. THAT is what this trial is about. And she did not know, she had no clue, therefore, not negligent. If I steal the gun of the person that I live with and I shoot someone, they are not going to charge my roomate, he's going to say he had no idea that I was the type and the worst he would be guilty of is not locking up his gun. THAT is how it works with every other situation on the planet, until now, and it is b.s. Besides that, when did they prove she wasn't locking up the gun? They didn't.

    • @raheppe
      @raheppe 6 місяців тому +1

      I'm not trying to be a jerk but she was assuming you would understand what she alluded to. If I buy my kid a car and she drives it into a person, negligently, does that make me guilty? Why not? What if they find text messages where my daughter expressed being upset? Etc etc etc, (the etc also assumed you can figure out the rest of what I alluded to). That is why she used those examples. She even broke down the cell phone thing because she probably realized that one was little tricky to think they'd undrstand without those details. I’m not going to lie. When she said her kids and her both would rather do anything then spend time together I was shocked. My kids are grown now. I went out of my way when they were teens. We spent lots of time together! I cheered them on at all their sports. We went to see every new superhero movie. We were always around each other whenever 20:08 possible! Maybe that’s the key. Don’t spoil them rotten and then ignore them. I feel bad for her. I picked up right away when she was talking about their life. She never held her son responsible.. you cannot raise a man without making them responsible for their actions. Giving him a second room to destroy after tearing the one he had up. Leaving it nasty and she would clean his room? Are you serious? I don’t fully understand how he got the gun. I understand how he could blame others for his misery and harm them. He was raised to think of himself and others cleaned up his mess! I hope others take it as a lesson! If you can’t be responsible enough to clean your room, you definitely don’t get a phone and you definitely won’t get a gun! People no longer have expectations of their children! If you want good from your kids expect good from them. If you don’t get good, hold them to it. No if ands or buts about it!

    I think the Defense lawyer is brilliant, she is defending her client with all she has and you can tell that she 100% doesn't think this woman should be found guilty. So many defense lawyers would probably agree that their client deservers what they get and they are there simply to uphold the defendants right to have an attorney. But Shannon 100% believes that Mrs Crumbly should not be found guilty. I happen to agree, in saying that, if someone I loved was killed by Ethan I would probably want Mrs Crumbly to go to jail.....life is confusing at the best of times.
