@@the_local_bigamist He was doing shorthand storytelling for a movie. He doesn't have the time to show Henry Hill going around getting congratulated by every mobster he runs errands for, saying "Good job kid. Here's a present for keeping your mouth shut."
So instead he shows a big welcome committee after he gets let out where they all pat him on the back. It accomplishes the main goal of the scene: Show how the mobster life could appeal to a kid. How that sense of brotherhood and comradery is a powerful attractor to young men.

There's so much more love and support in this scene between Henry and the Mob bosses than in any scene between Henry and his own family.
