Hornado(roast pork) with llapingachos (potato and cheese fritters) are good, too. That is a typical dish from the sierra. If you go to Atacames (or any other beach in the Esmeraldan province) you must eat a good encocado (coconut stew with either shrimp, fish, prawns, eyc.). Delicious.

Requirements: - Copy of the title page of your passport. - Copy of the page of your passport with the last entry stamp to Ecuador. We will get this copy when you are in Ecuador. - Original FBI background check. Apostilled by the Department of State in Washington D.C. - Original State Criminal Report. Apostilled by the Local Secretary of State. - Letter issued by the institution that pays your retirement. Notarized and then Apostilled by the Local Secretary of State. - A passport sized photo of you with white background. - Migratory Movement Certificate. This is a document issued by Migración in Ecuador and it costs $5.60. We will get this document when you are in Ecuador. - Copies of your bank account statements for six months, which you can download from your online bank account and email them to me. I will print them out for you and add them to your file. 2. Visa Validity: 2 years first and then indefinite upon renewal. 3. Entries and Travel: Multiple. 4. Government Fees: - Application: $50 dollars, payable when the application is submitted to the Ministry. - Visa: $400 dollars, payable when the residency visa is approved. * People who are 65+ years old receive a 50% discount on the government fees. - Cédula: $15 dollars. You need to get health insurance in Ecuador prior to applying for the cédula. I can also assist you with the process to get health insurance in Ecuador when the time comes. 5. My fee: $500 dollars for the entire process, payable as follows: - 50% at the beginning of the process. - 50% at the end of the process when you receive your visa in Ecuador. My fee includes the translation of all of your documents into Spanish with a certification of the translations before a Notary Public. Notarization of all the copies needed for the visa; filling out the forms and writing the petition letters. I will take care of every step of the process until you have your residency visa and cédula in hand. You have to bring the documents listed above with you to Ecuador and I will collect them from you when you are here and I´ll apply for your visa. I have to ride that tranvía! I took a look at Nomad Insurance. They have some noticeable exceptions to their health care coverage. There is no coverage for cancer treatment, routine check-ups, or pre-existing conditions. So, yes, it's cheap but you're taking a chance...
Yes, correct hopefully you have regular not travel insurance if you have Cancer and generally check-ups in the countries we go to are under $30. This insurance is awesome as travel/ medical insurance. Accidents and misfortunes that happen while abroad. Thanks for watching!
It is pricey but the alternative is $340/ person tickets to Peru...🥴 Once in Peru tickets are cheap to get around S. America but EC costs to get out by plane.

Real good info. I am actually doing the research on medical insurance for our South America year. Ecuador primarily, with Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay at least. I'm happy to make purchases through affiliate referrals if it helps you to keep providing services that help this community. One downside to the resident visas is the need to be in country 21 of 24 months or you lose the investment and time. It's $1000 for two on the Provessional visa, even if you don't engage assistance, which can add thousands more. If you can't stay in Ecuador for the required times, the luster wears off. We want to do dental implants in Cuenca, and the doctor recommends nine months for the process. That makes it challenging to work within 90 days + 90 days. Can anyone verify whether or not you can leave the country on the second 90 day extension, if you get it? Or, like Portugal, does one need to remain in the country for that whole second 90 days?

Yes they eat a lot of meat there. Pork, beef, chicken and all of them are good. The hornado (roasted pork) is delicious!! We spent 2 weeks last month there and ate very good!

If you want permanent residency you can't leave more than 90 days if you only want the 2 yr you can come and go as you please.
Did you go to Manta? There's a very active expat group in Manta and they absolutely love Manta. I wanted to get another view of Manta.

Yup sucks can't leave more than 90 days total for 2 years...one reason we aren't pursuing it right now.

You can do it all from within the country if you have your paperwork in order, FBI report and apostitized docs. Consult a lawyer 1st.

They say you need an onward ticket but they didn't check for ours when we arrived. 🤷🏽♂️ ...we had a fake one ready though lol

Meat is widely available - big emphasis on pork. You'll also find beef, chicken, some turkey and guinea pig.
Yes they eat a lot of meat there. Pork, beef, chicken and all of them are good. The hornado (roasted pork) is delicious!! We spent 2 weeks last month there and ate very good!
