I loved Quito too! ❤️❤️ I mean, I like Cuenca and it's charm, but Quito has more to do and good small towns close to it like Otavalo and Cotacachi that have a lot to do! I simply love Ecuador!! Can't wait to go back.
My wife and I are moving to Cuenca in mid-Nov this year. We wanted a1000 feet more O2 and to be further away from the active volcanos around Quito. We will be visiting Quito lots of times though.
1000 ft make a difference but there's also the most active Volcan in Ecuador Sangay is 75 miles from Cuenca and causes ash overcast but yeah it isn't Cotopaxi just sitting there 30 miles outside of Quito all intimidating....I get it!
Of these two cities QUITO and Cuenca, I would definitely choose Quito because from Quito I can fly easily inside and outside of Ecuador. In addition to good restaurants, boutiques, shops, museums, bookstores and etc, also here are the main governmental and cultural institutions of Ecuador and embassies of other countries in the world, which facilitate the processing of documents are needed. For these and other reasons, QUITO is the best for me. Nice video, The YARBROS are the best, too!
Living in a small town of 20,000, I found your description of a city of half a million having a “small town vibe” utterly hilarious!🤣 Many thanks for the videos and your channel!
IT TENDS TO RAIN IN QUITO MOST AFTERNOONS. THE RAINY SEASON IS MARCH AND APRIL AND YES, IT'S COLD AND WET. BUT ALL IN ALL, IT IS THE 'CITY OF ETERNAL SPRING' WITH TEMPS YEAR ROUND BETWEEN 55 AND 70.
Nice video. I didn’t realize how many Americans have left or are leaving the U.S. for various reasons. For a moment, when you said you didn’t want to socialize with other ex-pats on a regular basis, I thought, 😏 Then, I thought If you’re moving abroad I guess it makes sense. I don’t know what the future holds for me, but at least traveling to different destinations is on my list. Thanks for sharing your perspective.
Considering that both of you still visiting Guayaquil, we Ecuadoreans have a saying Hacemos dinero en Guayaquil y se gasta en Quito. Although needs to be updated and Cuenca added to it, has become a mandatory visit destination for wealthy Ñaños Guayacos. Your info is helping plenty of friends of mine to make a permanent move to my beloved Ecuador. Thanks for sharing your wisdom, experience and knowledge 😄
Well, the sun shines everyday in Salinas in the "warm" season, from December to April. You are now in the "cold" season for Salinas. I f you visit Salinas in February, it has a merciless sunshine.
Based on your review, Cuenca 4 me. But, I would love to see Loja to get to more natural areas and more local / fewer expats, and it’s a bit lower in elevation. One of my main concerns is climate and air quality, especially a place that has good air moisture and not too dry, but mot too humid either. I’m in Colorado, and the dryness, cold and lack of diversity in plant life makes me dream of the semi-tropics - but, not to hot! Thank you so much.
I have loved your videos. My boys and I are preparing to relocate to Quito from the States in the next year. My youngest son is graduating high school and we would like to move after that. I will continue to support your channel but would love to chat sometime.
I’ve been watching you guys for a little while now and just subscribed. Y’all have grown so much with the production quality of your content and always cheerful and pleasant to watch.
I just bought my plane ticket for my first solo trip to Ecuador in January! This video was helpful cause I’m starting I. Quito first for a week then Cuenca for a week. So excited!
Yes I just came from Quito and sometimes when me and my girlfriend would talk in English because we were lost people would talk to us in English and lead us in the right direction. Specifically the people that work at the park of the Middle of the Equator spoke English.
i think i’m going to quito this summer, my girlfriend lives there and i’ve watched so many videos about quito and it just seems so amazing and i can’t wait to visit her and experience the city with her
Quito was the first city I visited in South America, and would definitely be my choice. I want that urban vibe, lots of choices for restaurants, and easy access to international flights. But I would love to visit Cuenca and see that small town vibe.
Just returned to the US from Ecuador. I went to Ecuador to explore moving to Cuenca for early retirement but found out that I felt more at home in Quito. I will be returning to Ecuador, probably in January 2024, to visit the coastal cities to see if I prefer the coast to the Andes mountain.
Welcome to Salinas! I hope you enjoy your stay. I just moved here in January. There are some great people around. I'm not hugely social, but there are definitely opportunities for that.
Once again your expertise gets a lot of attention...I would choose Cuenca, because there are more expats...and the weather in Cuenca is a lot better. Thanks for your excellent video.
Cuenca for me ... less crime, more community, more centrally located to explore Ecuador, etc. Quito ranks 74/435 on the crime index where Cuenca ranks 239/435. Cuenca is the safest city in South America according to the crime index.
Okay all about priorities! FYI crime index only uses crimes that are reported most crimes aren't reported in Cuenca due to poor law enforcement BUT it is definitely more safe than Quito as a whole. ..like NYC vs Kansas.
I think I’d prefer the smaller Cuenca vibe and it’s at a little less elevation, so might be easier to breathe lol. But I’m really interested in Salinas and Manta! Thankyou!
As you chose Quito...Well, you guys have to get ready!!! The biggest party in Quito is near!!!! It is on dec 6th and we celebrate the foundation, but probably it will be moved to the 5th because is Monday, but we start till the 1st 😬. Please 🙏🏻 practice your moves 💃 🕺 (it will be parties everywhere), your skill playing cards (game called Cuarenta invented here) and on your drinking 🍸 😉 of Canelazo, vino hervido and more. But if you guys want a preview you have to go to Cuenca, as it is the celebration of the independece on the 3er of Nov, big party also. That's weird we have parties in both in the foundation (when the Spanish conquered the city) and in the independence of the Spanish 🤷🏼♀️
Hola 👋🏽 I knew you guys had said Quito was your spot in the beginning. I’m just not sure of the altitude for me, and the lack of sun! Playas may be good for me, though my Espanol is weak 😞 So, between the two, I would go with Quito, though I’m holding out for a sunshine spot….
Have you had a chance to visit Cumbayá? (16 miles from Quito) Quito can be rainy in the afternoons.Cumbayá or the areas close to it are warmer. It used to be a tiny suburb decades ago, but now it's its own city. Jokingly we call it Cumbayork as you can find anything, and rarely need to drive to Quito.
I love your videos! Thanks for making them! I've been living in Ecuador for more than 11 years. I spent the first year in Cuenca and then 5 years in Loja. I've been in Quito for more than 5 years now. I FROZE in Cuenca and Loja!! And every time I made the trip north to Quito, it was warm and sunny while Loja and Cuenca were wet and cold. I live in an eastern valley of Quito called Tumbaco at about 7500 feet elevation, so it is warmer than most of urban Quito, but even when I go to places in Quito (Parque Carolina, the bus terminal, Hospital Metropolitano, govt offices, etc.) it's almost always warm and sunny during the day. We do get rainy periods, but it isn't like the rain in Cuenca. There's usually sun for at least part of the day. I also have the best internet I've ever had in my life here. Better than what I had in Colorado! Faster and more reliable. I also feel like Quiteños are more open to foreigners, as well, maybe because they are more educated and have traveled more in general. Expats don't cluster together here like they do in Cuenca, so maybe that helps, too. Taxi drivers in Cuenca used to complain all the time about the expats, maybe because I spoke Spanish, so it was easy for them to talk about it. Loja is the most beautiful city in Ecuador in my opinion -- it tends to be a cool, wet city, so it is always so green and lush. Quito can get a bit dry but there are still so many beautiful places and giant parks. They've done an amazing job of preserving green space in Quito, one of many reasons why I love this city so much!
Hi guys, this video was very interesting both Quito and Cuenca are both breath taking I couldn't even choice which one to stay that would be hard for me it will be🤔??????? But any ways Thank you for this video. Stay safe guys BIG HUGS from a girl in Chi. 🏙️🏙️.🤗🙏🏽
Quito sounds like my kinda vibe; I have some vacation coming up in the next few weeks; I wonder if I should check it out. I've been to Mexico City, Cartagena, Bueno Aires, San Jose, CR, and Panama City. I need to add a new city to my South/Central American travels. Good to hear that the internet is good since I can actually make it a working vacation since my company will let me work from anywhere. Thanks again for the honest info. My only concern is the altitude; I lived in Denver for 5 years (coming from almost sea-level Texas) and I never fully acclimated to the elevation, especially if I was exerting myself (e.g. just WALKING lol) above 8,000 ft.
I recommend low cities like Loja at 2000 meters high, the valleys of Quito at 2350, Cotacachi at 2000, manta at 40 meters, Vilcabamba at 1600, Guayllabamba at 1700
Man, I was just coming to say this. I could not take the altitude during my time in Denver, but was only there for 7 days and thought a longer visit may help but now I am not so sure.
😊 off course you chose Quito..so would I in many ways... I will however, when I come down, travel between 3 cities and, by doing so, hope to find out which one will be me for my retirement.. The 3 being 1. Like you Quito simply because it's a big city, 2. Cuenca....smaller but nice...not sure about all the expats there..I don't dislike other expats but, really want to get to know the Ecuadorians and, 3. A smaller town Loja...simply because of the people in the area.. Let's see . A bit different for me this time as, for the first time, I will not be moving country because of a job but, for retirement (and online jobs)...No matter what my choice will be, I look so much forward and most of all, I look forward to the Amazonas...I might end up, living in a cave somewhere in the jungle...who knows 😊 Thanks so much for sharing..

Do you recommend staying in Centro Quito? I want a super walkable area with lots of food/art/people but also not insanely noisy & not super touristy. Any neighborhood recs? Thanks!
WE HAVE LIVED IN QUITO A TOTAL OF 10 YEARS, WITH 9 OF THOSE YEARS BEING CONSECUTIVE. THERE IS A COMMUNITY THE LOCALS CALL "GRINGOLANDIA" WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE NORTH CENTRAL PART OF THE CITY. ALSO AM SURPRISED THAT YOU FOUND SO MANY PEOPLE WHO SPEAK ENGLISH. WE HAVEN'T. WE LIVE ON THE NORTHSIDE IN A COMMUNITY CALLED CARCELEN AND BELIEVE WE HAVE ONLY SEEN LESS THAN 2 HANDFULS OF 'GRINGOS' IN OUR COMMUNITY IN 9 YEARS!
You know what's good for you, guys. Just go for it, I wish you the best!! There's just rwo thing I don't agree with you, though. I attended College in Quito. I've noticed that in Cuenca, a lot of people speak at least very basic english, and if they don't, they try to find a way to understand you and help you anyway. Whereas in Quito, most people do not speak English at all, and many will not spend more time with you either, if they don't understand you. Only educated folks might speak English. Quito has 3 million people, Guayaquil 275.000. Quito out-competed Guayaquil in population and progress since a few years ago.
Didn't know Quito outgrew GYE interesting. You may be right regarding the English speaking g population....in both places more ppl didn't speak it than did.
In the mountains it is very proper w/ heavy emphasis on enunciation... Like Monterrey but faster. In the low lands it is more like a song w/ a hugh pitch. All over it is spoken quicker than in Mexico.

WE LIVE ON THE NORTHSIDE IN A COMMUNITY CALLED CARCELEN AND BELIEVE WE HAVE ONLY SEEN LESS THAN 2 HANDFULS OF 'GRINGOS' IN OUR COMMUNITY IN 9 YEARS!
Cuenca!
Cool!
Did you guys ever use Latam Airlines?
Yes, we have a few times and we're satisfied every time.
Check out ballenita and santa elena

@@TheYarbrosI'm sorry, I meant Guayaquil has 2,750,000 people.
Old school here i want to stand on the equador did you get opportunity to while you were there.
Oh yeah we did....didn't make the video but we walked, stood and jumped all over that thing lol
@@TheYarbros right on its good to hear from you and see that your as awesome as you always are
Quito vs. Querétaro? Why Quito ?
How does the Equadoran Spanish accent compare to the Mexican Spanish accent?
The accent of a person born in Quito is similar to the Mexican accent of the capital of Mexico
In the mountains it is very proper w/ heavy emphasis on enunciation... Like Monterrey but faster. In the low lands it is more like a song w/ a hugh pitch. All over it is spoken quicker than in Mexico.
YOU NEED TO KNOW THAT QUITO IS DEFINITELY LESS SECURE THAN CUENCA.
WE STAY HERE BECAUSE IT IS WHERE WE 'WORK' / 'SERVE' IN MINISTRY.
QUITO - MORE LIKE 2.8 MILLION PEOPLE
Zaruma City
