Tour of Quito Ecuador (with a Local)

- We had one day to spend in Quito Ecuador and it was memorable! We asked Xavier to show us a couple places the tourists don't go, and we wanted to get some aerial shots with Mini before the weather derailed our plans. The elevation and high winds led to a drone-tastrophy! And Amelia's herbal beatdown led to a very unexpected and shocking end to our day!

Gracias! It was fun to film!
What an adventure! You're both such good sports. I love the friendship and love you share with each other and Ecuador!
Gracias!
Your videos are getting better and better. ¡Qué chévere! 🇪🇨
Gracias!
I love how your back injury turned into a bit of a blessing in that you're probably doing more and seeing more than you would have otherwise. You two are living a life most "healthy" people just dream about.
Very true. It made us appreciate life more 😊👍
Thank you Amelia & JP, it's awesome to see people from other countries visiting and enjoying places where I grew up. God bless you 👍
Muy bien....exelente .... Heroes..🙂👌👍💪💫🥳 ...saludos jojo desde EC...👋👋👋
Thank YOU....💃🕺👌👍✌🌐
It is amazing how we are all so similar in South America. All I see resembles me my beloved Bolívia, my second home. The places are a bit different, but the warmth in people are the same. Love you guys. Thank you for sharing.
I Just got back from Quito. I stayed with some friends and we traveled all over Ecuador. I suggested this channel. My friends asked if it is the channel with the lady with a great smile and I said yes.
That was HILARIOUS 🤣😂😊. AMELIA, YOU ARE A REAL TROOPER 👍😎
Amelia and JP: Echoing some of the other commenters, congratulations! This is, by far, the most enjoyable, fascinating and exciting of your videos I have yet to have seen. Bravo! Keep up the great work and loving life in Ecuador! Greetings from coastal southeastern North Carolina.
My husband and I spent 3 weeks in Quito and had a blast. We walked all over that city. I miss Ecuador!
Impressed with you all and everything, especially the basillica.
Excellent work, thank you, and mini is fine keeping fly him until it dies, I can't wait for next video

I hit most of those sites last month in Quito as part of my moto trip around Ecuador. Great video and great narration especially!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Best video yet. Thanks for this!
Once again thank you guys for this excelent job..!
This was an amazing video. Professional grade. Learned alot. Saw alot. Felt the beauty. Thank you so much.
You guys just continue being fun and delightful.😉It’s refreshing to see a non tour guide showing you around; a very fresh and welcome perspective…they know stuff we’ll never know…. unless we ask;)
The museums in Quito are phenomenal, for whenever you want to do a cultural video.
Thanks for entertaining us.
Loved this video! P.S. Amelia and JP -- I just viewed a long video of a woman who biked through very rough, hilly, mountainous, curving dirt roads, tiny Ecuadorian towns even more backwoods than in this video. Wow! Even the wildest, nontourist areas of Ecuador are beautiful!
Great video, greetings from Newark, NJ
At 7:21 the video shows the interior of the former archbishop palace now housing a restaurant that specializes in authentic Ecuadorean cuisine. "Hasta La Vuelta Señor". One of the coolest places my brother and I went to in our 2013 trip. After a great lunch we moved to the bar and the bartender let us have a free full run of the rockola (jukebox). It featured all the great latin standards plus a few ecuadorean traditional oldies. It was fantastic!
Guys it's quite few the times I decide to leave a comment, but un this video, i really have fun and enjoyed it a lot. JP the way you are makes me feel happier 'cuz sometimes you leave your inner child come out and play. Amelia is a very adorable lady, seeing you walking around like a girl scout, moving around everywhere is fun. I do really love you guys and the way you enjoy those places you show in every video. Keep on, you are the best... my heart goes with you ☺
Wow....One of your best episodes! I could feel all the good vibes. Thank you for these and keep them coming! The editing was the best iv'e seen as well from you two. Love and light!
Muchas gracias! I spent more than 40 hours editing this one! Hopefully they get easier because we like this style. More fun to film and watch 👍
@@AmeliaAndJP I feel your pain. My son is a brilliant filmmaker and editor but he absolutely hates the editing part. It just takes forever. But the end result is so wonderful for us, the viewers. So glad I caught this one of yours. Excellent job.
Nice video. Glad you get the drone back from the cables. That was funny.
Siempre estupendos!!
Thank you for this great video. I didn't know Quito is so beautiful.
Really enjoyed this video. Only good vibes. Went to all the places mentioned. Saludos Amelia and PJ
What an awesome video!!!
My grand, great parents and great great grandparents are buried at the right side of the altar at the Catacomb chapel at the Basílica del Voto Nacional
My fathers family were one of the Quito’s aristocratic families that financed the starting of the building of this magnificent Basilica and also worked very hard to have a national vote that is why this Basilica is called the national vote because it was finance mostly by tax payers
Because of this monetary contribution my grandparents were allow to purchase these niches, they moved the remains of their parents and grandparents from the San Roque cemetery in old Quito to this catacombs, later my grandparents passed away n were buried there as well
When sadly my first born died 11 days after he was born in 1988 we tried to bury him there and the Father Director of the Oblate Order who manage this parish told us that the we are not allow to bury any more relatives and if any family open any niche will be only to exhume the remains
So we left our love ones there for eternity
every time we visit Quito we visit the basilica
I also remember the “limpias” when I was a little girl, but a lady healer will come to our house to cleanse me with those flowers n herbs, it was because u was too skinny, jumped on my sleet and I did not like to eat at all! I don’t jump any more, I eat everything now but I am still slim lol that part did not work
Lol lol
Thanks for sharing your story and history! It’s a magnificent basilica! 😊🇪🇨
This was one of your best videos in Ecuador. You showed us a lot of Quito and the description was great too. You took us all over Quito. The Basilica Del Voto Nacional, the Plaza Grande, Calle La Ronda, Central Mercado, and more. You got some spectacular drone footage before you pushed your luck. Can’t wait for your next video!
I'm glad you got it back, beautiful video thank you
Awesome guys, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for a lovely video and glimpses from Quito! Plenty of positive energy to you both from Dublin and I, who wish I could come to Ecuador now (or yesterday)!! Take care and have a good weekend.

What fun and how refreshing that you released a video of the different lives lived in Ecuador.
I seldom comment on videos. I have watched many of yours and agree with others that this is one of your best. Loved the story telling format.
Wonderful video! I hope Mini is still functioning, what an ordeal.
Guys I have been watching your videos since you lived in Cuenca and love them all, but this one is the Best. It shows the on daily life of the people in such an entertaining way. TWO THUMBS UP and 5 SARTS
Great video footage of Quito! Amelia should have brought Mini in for the smackdown.
Great video Amelia and JP, greetings from Panama. Such great shots of Quito..everything is so Green. really nice shots of the old town and all the neighborhoods. The energy cleansing sounds great, would not mind having one. Was quite an adventure but overall a great video as always.
Beautiful video and stories ❤ Thank you for sharing your heart
Loved it!! Love you!!
I have had similar cleanses before plant medicine & temazcal ceremonies.
It’s muy bueno!!!

Fun! Thank you!
I lived in Quito as a child in the 80s and it was such a treat to watch this video.
You guys are just the best! Thanks as always for sharing your travels.
Gracias!
Que lindos .. les queremos 💕
This video brings back many fond memories of my visit to Quito in 2017. Everything was wonderful until the last day we took a bus to Cotopaxi. We were given bicycles (with hydraulic brakes) for the descent. At one point I fell face first down into the volcanic ash and scraped the skin off my left cheek. The bus was following behind us so the stopped immediately to give me first aid. I survived and no broken bones! I won't do THAT again.
Thanks for sharing video, on my way back to Ecuador tomorrow.
I have been enjoying your channel for quite a while. I didn’t think I would get to Ecuador and was visiting vicariously through your videos. However, my wife and I might actually be able to make it. Here is a suggestion for a playlist: a one week or 10 day visit list. Love the videos.
MUCH NICER view from above - seems like Quito is just another overcrowded city ! We just returned from Costa Rica, and found the same thing to be true there - large (and even medium) cities are swarming with people, like a never-stopping anthill. Once you get OUTSIDE the cities, the REAL beauty of these countries can be enjoyed !
Great video JP and Amelia!
Really nicely done video. UA-cam hasn’t popped up your channel for me, for a while, and I’m glad you’re still active!
When we visited in 2015 we only had one day in Quito as well. So we visited the Teleferico and the Middle of the World City. Your videos are bringing back some great memories. My only regret was we spent so much time enjoying ourselves at Middle of the World city, we ran out of time to visit "The real Equator" just a few hundred yards away. My avatar is me at a Hacienda Jimenita Wildlife Reserve in Pifo, just outside Quito. Our goal was to use Hacienda Jimenita as a base for 2 days, but after 5 straight days of sightseeing we needed a down day and the quiet walks in the reserve were perfect to recharge us for our next stop at Banos.
"Herbal beatdown"......Love it !
Dave from Denver.
You guys are living a wonderful, adventurous dream life. Good for you! And you create such a quality vlog so that we can come along. Quite a wonderful journey you've had from "Vegans Abroad" (which we loved, too -- because it was the beginning of it all!) Abrazos fuertes de Jim y Rosa
This was so much fun! We love your videos! 💕
Loved the new format for this video. Funny and interesting. The drone footage was really lovely!
Gracias! Thanks for the feedback!
NICE VIDEO, A LOT OF FUN!
Very entertaining and informative video. . . "Let's fly the drone in high winds right next to these power lines, what could possibly go wrong?"
Clean powerful video... nice editing… Wish it was that easy for all of us to get a change of attitude!
Thank you for sharing your very unique adventures in Quito. Brings back memories from our two trips to Quito in the 2010's, and a desire to return in the near future. Hopefully Amelia was able to to get all those plant fragments out of her skin!
Haha! Thanks! She took a long shower!
La limpia..... Genial, 👌😊
Loved seeing activities in Ecuador. 👍
Thankyou for your history of city
GREETINGS FROM PALM DESERT CALIFORNIA GUYS.😃👍🌴🌴
Hola!
loving the new format, great content as always!!
Hola Amig@s. Fun video. You’ve been hinting at upgrading mini for a while. I was thinking of making an offer if you did… but may have to re-think that now, jajaja 😆
Well done guys. Well done!
I loved this video! 🤗
Omg the drone 😂😂 the music was perfect. Nice video! I loved the combination of non touristic and touristic places.
Gracias!
I just love it!!
Cool video, guys! Great shots of our capital city, Quito. Greetings from NYC!
Gracias!
Ja Ja! Get a new drone, JP! Still loving your and Amelia’s videos! Wow you guys-72.9K subscribers-been with you since the beginning! Keep on doing what you do! So want to come back to Ecuador!
Lol lol lol that was the funniest video I have seen on UA-cam. Seeing all of that energy being swished away by those magic plants. It was especially funny that the lady was spitting on Amelia. Amelia, watching you and all the videos I did not think you would allow someone to do that. Thank you for going out on a limb. I have to go now and start laughing out loud again. You are good stuff!
Haha! Amelia asked if I wanted to go next. That was a hard NO! 🤣
I seem to recall Amelia doing something like this (herbal whack down) in another video a couple years back, possibly in Cuenca. She's a great sport!
As an older single woman traveller, i walked/meandered through those neighbourhoods that you were afraid of on way to that angel and it was totally fine. I feel that your behaviour and how you appear can determine how you are treated by locals. Maybe i have just been lucky? Maybe i dont look too obviously different? Who knows? But stay somewhere long enough to trust your intuition and travel at ease (but still with your antenae out for possible danger or problems). Live a little outside of fear if you can. So worth it. Of course everyones comfort level is different but always worth it to stretch a little!
We trusted our guide who told us that area isn’t safe for tourists, and we’ve heard that from other people, too. It’s probably safe to walk through there most of the time, but the risk is higher in some areas and that’s one of them.
I love your videos, get fun guys.
Thanks for visiting Quito!! 👍Wonderful video...👍but I don't think I will be doing the cleansing Amelia got.. 😜🌬🌬😁glad the Mini is ok...
Nice nice video!!!! 🤗🤗
fantastic visit!!! Hilarious drone activities.
Hi, I'm following your channel, I'm from Guayaquil, and I live here in your country in the state of Florida.
I am coming there soon....... On my bucket list
This is a wonderful video. Great job Amelia and JP!
Gracias!
And OMG that anti stress flower beatdown with the spittle spray was hilarious! Poor Amelia. 2 showers needed!
Omg, dronepocalypse! 😆 I'm glad it wasn't worse! I say get a new drone that doesn't drop uncontrollably.
I just love El Virgen and the Basilica, thanks for showing them in (most) of their glory. Are you still able to climb on top of the Basilica? Also loved the spirit cleanse, Amelia, you're such a sport! I guess a little plant matter never hurt anyone, lol!
Thanks for another great video! ❤❤❤
We went up to the balcony but not all the way to the spire. We saw other people going up there so it must be open. It was a fun day!
Great video guys! Thank you for sharing your adventure! I think the drone's demise may be a sign you need to change your approach and do more on the street video that's more intimate and includes the locals even more than you do already. And that limpieza or despojo was awesome! My family is from Cuba and that sort of thing is very common there. They consider it a spiritual "reset" of sorts and dispels some of that negative energy that we sometimes attract as we go about our day. I bet your guide thought that was a good idea after the drone fiasco witnessed by some of those worker dudes who probably said some nasty things you didn't understand but your guide did. That mindset is very common in Latin America, and you have to be aware of it too because people there can be polite to you (as is often the case in LA) but they may not necessarily be thinking nice thoughts about you. You guys did the right thing (getting the limpieza) and also created a genuine video of a very special place. Bravo!
You give me hope, JP. I sustained a spinal injury in the Army. I want to move to Ecuador but I'm afraid my back wasn't going to be able to handle it. After seeing you, has given me hope.
That’s great! They have great doctors here 😊👍
You guys do a great job and your success is due to your adorable personalities. Love the church, similar to Milans
Gracias!
