As. Gunsmith, and a big fan of Colt Revolvers, single and double action , I am glad to see these new Colts with fixed sights. I'm very fond of my Official Police. I also note that S&W is doing the same thing with their reintroduction of S&W Heavy duty. Before I get to excited I would like to look inside at the lock work.
I've got to hand it to Colt, they seem to have come back from the dead with their new revolvers; they are a fresh breath of air compared to modern day Smiths and Rugers. The Colt Viper is a very handsome carry revolver. If I hadn't already purchased the WC SP101 then I'd seriously be considering a Colt Viper or Python in 3''.
That's a real beauty of a piece. I'm so happy that K-frame (or I should say D-frame here, haha)-types are making a slight comeback. I'm tired of seeing only J-frame and N-frame equivalents
Be a sensible choice I think. Add one speed loader or speed strip. Which you probably won't need. I'm old school. I think a reliable simple revolver in .38+P or 125g .357 magnum JHP is about as much gun as your ever going to need.
@@professorpewpuew Funny, I just swapped out my Dan Wesson 14-2 2.5" barrel for a 6" barrel. I have a S&W 638 for EDC. The 357s love a longer barrel; longer than 3", anyway.
I did see that the King Cobra has a few more cast parts on the inside, but I like the compact size and trigger of this one. The Python handles recoil better though!
@@professorpewpuew It’s pretty much all MIM inside the King Cobra. I’ve never had a problem with it, but the Carry version is a handful with hot magnums. 💥💥💥💥
Besides the dented trigger guard, I think the 3 inch Viper is nearly as esthetically perfect as the Python. The proportions are perfect! I will definitely have one some day.
This is a nice-looking magnum carry revolver. I considered the Kimber K6S in the past since it is a 6 shooter with a cylinder nearly as slim as many 5 shot revolvers. However, there is word that a number of these Kimber revolvers have timing issues. This Colt Viper appears to be almost as slim. Plus, I imagine that Colt has better Quality Control. This just might be in my future.
I like it. Looks similar to my S&W Model 13 with a 3" barrel. I wish I could afford to buy all the new Colt snake pistols. I did get a 3" Python, but that about broke the bank for gun money for awhile.
I had a Diamondback .38 Special four inch back in the early 80s, but traded it. I always thought the D frame fit me better than the S&W K, though I love the Ks. Anyway, the new Ds have got my attention. Was leaning to a King Cobra three inch until the Viper was released. I didn’t catch what ammo you’re shooting but try it with 158 grain or 146 grain wadcutters to see if it’s more regulated to traditional .38 Special bullet weights.
Good looking revolver. I do wish colt did more to differentiate the viper from the king cobra other than the partial under lug ,grips and obvious viper text on the barrel
Thats a beautiful piece!!! I checked out a python a few months back unfortunately it was out of my budget so I went with the taurus 605 however I have my eyes on a few colts eventually here in the future!!
I'd love to see the ballistic performance of .357 mag rounds coming out of that 3" barrel. My guess is it behaves more like a full-size 4" barrel revolver than a 2" snubby revolver.
She’s a beauty. Have you tried carrying it for any length of time? If so, how do you find it best positioned and what holster are you using? Thanks for the video 👍🏽
Prefer this type of barrel to full lug. I have a rare DS2 38 spl 3 inch , a 1977 vintage 4 inch blue 38 spl with half lug. Might have to add this one to the stable
