Mike Smedley you do a decent video. First time I've come across you're clips and I'll be looking for more. I just wanted to say thanks for tutorials. Very informative and I like that you take time to coach these other guys commenting and asking questions and picking your mind for info...thanks again. Hope you have great fishin in the coming new year. Tight lines bruh!
Bill Walker Thanks Brother. I really appreciate that. Thanks for taking the time to post this. 👍👍👍😁

Octavio Fuentes Thanks Brother!!
What I enjoyed most about your video is seeing you handle the bass with care - very nice guys!
😊😊😁👍
I noticed that too. Respect for the fish goes a long way.
RanochVTX thanks brother! I agree!
That's some quality fishing!
paul vanaman thanks brother!!

😂😂🤣🤣❤️❤️
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS I love catching strippers here in Arkansas! Such a fun fish. I was on a date one time and the guy released my catfish! Then he released my stripper! RIGHT THEN, I experinced PTSD!😲😨 He FINALLY caught a massive fish and decided he'd keep it.🤔 OH HELLLLLL to the NOOOOOOOO! I reminded him that it was CATCH & RELEASE DAY, NO FISH ALLOWED ON BOAT DAY, NO FISH TO EAT DAY and he released that beast.😂😂 Loved your video! TRY TO KEEP THE FISH PLEASE.😘😘😆
"Strippers"? I agree, some o' 'em smell like Fish... Although, I would much rather Fish for "Stripers"...(Less chance o' catchin' a Disease...)
it is very nice to see you guys release some good fish.Leave some for the kids.
😁😁😁👍
FANTASTIC VIDEO!!!
Cashtheflashfishing 100 thank you!
Great video as always!
Thanks Mark!!!👍👍
Great catching!
Great boat. Great video.
Patrick Rossi THANKS BROTHER!!!!😁
Awesome fishing!
Such great conditions
What size hook is the Gamakatsu? Also here in the Chesapeake we can’t use offset, any suggestions?
A Hoooggg! Tommy's day, welcome to NY fellas!
What rod are you using @1:30 with the blue foregrip?...thanks
I lived there and is funny to see folks fish the water which raised me .. 💙🤙
Thanks brother!!! I was raised there too!

Nice work guys! Nice boat too...haha
Shaun mcinnis THANKS BROTHER!!😁😁
When would be the correct time to use a weight ? Do you use a sinker or an egg ?
Good job guys
Thanks brother 👍
Get em max!!
😛
Great video epic day had me laughing
Thanks brother!!!😁😁
hey mike I was wondering what structure brought you to conclude that that would be a good spot to anchor up and chunk I usually never catch fish outside of current was there bait present ?
nevermind I finished the video and you answered my question lol good job man
Yes sir!! It doesn’t take much to attract fish when there is current. A hump like this can be littered with good fish. In freshwater you might need ALOT of structure, but not as much in the salt. 👍👍
I enjoyed that. What size hook did you use? I’m watching on an airplane and don’t have headphones so I can’t hear.
In this video we were using 8/0 J hooks but we use these 9/0 inline circle hooks normally. In fact it’s the law now. amzn.to/325i8xC
Great video!
Beautiful flat calm water. What I wouldn't do for a little of that around here.
Damn nice boat !!
Dan thanks brother!
What year was that guy's is that 2018? Because down here in Boston they're just starting to hit the rivers on the way to the Salt Water. They are here 2 or 3 weeks swimming Upstream chasing the shad and Herring and then they're off the saltwater I'm so happy that striper season is upon us I've been waiting all winter.
Brian Morton this was last year, but we are doing just as well right now. It’s been great here for last 3 weeks. Ny.
going to try this in falcon dam boys thanks for the pointers, going fishing
whiskey jiro that's great. thanks for the comment. Go get em all!
Great video! Where did you get those rod holders?
Eric Cordeiro Ce Smith adjustables.
are you drifting or is the boat anchored? i am in a small boat in the bay and wondering if the current / wind will be too strong in about 15ft of water.
What a pos!!! How does he not answer this question??? Phook this dude
What kind of rod holders are those and where can they be bought? It looks like they mount into a gimble mount on the boat.
That’s exactly right. Here ya go! ua-cam.com/video/DSau-iYqAXg/v-deo.html
Your bib pants with yellow straps, what brand are they? Thank you.
Hey Tony, they are the new Aftco anhydrous rain gear. I was lucky enough to help test this new gear out for a year or so before they went into production. We beat the daylights out of most of our stuff and Aftco actually tweaked the design based on some of our feedback. I was very impressed with that. It seems that a lot of companies wouldn't make any changes after they hit the old "price point", but Aftco made some real improvements to get it perfect. It's a super lightweight super dry suit. They have these "cord locks" all over the suit that are awesome. You can really adjust the suit in several places so it fits perfect. This gear has to be the driest breathable gear out there. Thanks for the comment brother!
That's a heck of a beard !
What set up would you suggest if I'm fishing from shore?
dzoan duong find areas where the channel runs close to the bank. You don't necessarily need to cast all the way to the channel, but you have greater chances when fishing the shallow water NEAR the deep water of the channel. Use larger spinning reels with 10-12" surf cast rods. 50-80lb Stealth braid. 20-40lb mono leaders. I like to cast eels because they stay on the hook best when casting hard. Hook in the tail.
Great video, nice fish. Did you put grips on your fishing rods?
Thanks brother!!! Yes, I use Winn Grips. Click the link to see how I install them. 👍

Damn guys nice video . I live right across the street from that spot . And never seen such big Cows
hooked up like that .... Fine video
shanerr929 We’ll be there a lot this spring, same boat, we always fly an American Flag, when you go there this spring bring a flash light, if you see us out there shine us down and we’ll come pick you up. You can fish with us the rest of the day. It works in the daytime too if it’s good light. 😁.
Where is this located
Those accurate reels are the shit. I'm getting a bv300 valiant

What do you guys recommend for bait? Never tried fishing strippers before was gonna take my grandpa out this weekend but not sure on what to use for bait
I would start out with bloodworms. The guys at the bait shop will hook you up with the right hooks and stuff. They are pretty good in the North East. Try to fish near a river mouth on the out going tide. 👍👍
Appreciate it thank you
I’m going fishing at grizzly island needed a good rig
what bait do you guys use and do you do guide services im not in east coast but i would love to take a fishing trip out there one day oh and what rod were you using
+jon garrigus we use fresh Bunker (Menhaden). Rods are Accurate 7020C. Reels are Accurate Valiant 400. I don't guide anymore because we travel so much, but I have good friends that are great guides. We can probably fish along side each other. Email me if you are interested. Mikesmedley9@gmail.com
Mike Smedley ok thanks i will keep it mind when i go in vacation we dont have bunkers in cali are stripers our small compared to your east coast stripers i mean there are some big ones but kinda hard to find but cool man awseome video
Great video what kind of rod are you using?
Thanks brother!! These were Seeker 7020’s.

Awesome brother!! 👍👍👍😁😁
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS thanks Mike tight lines brother going out again today let you know how I get on your very kind brother 🎣🐟 🚤
Those rods are within my price range, but those reels arent. Can you recommend some reel models that would pair well with that rod? I'm not sure what to look for in a good striper reel. Also what gear ratio? Thanks dude!
Low gear for all bait live and cut. The Accurate Fury starts at $239. I would avoid level winds and star drags. Unfortunately I don’t know a lot of the prices of the other brands. I would probably use Daiwa.
Nice fish! And that looks like some nice gear you’re using. What is that gear you’re using?
Steven Kazmierski Thank you Sir! Accurate Valiant 400 reels and Accurate 7020c Rods.
may i ask what kind of bait you used in the video?
4:20 Nation sure brother!! Cut Menhaden.
what are you using for bait? those were some big stripers.
Brody Hollister cut bunker -menhaden.
Awesome fishing man! What type of bait were y’all using?
Looks like bunker
How high/low do you guys set the drag with the rods in the holders? Greattt video btw!
Ryan Mclaughlin great question. In most cases I set the drag to be 3/4 of what the fighting drag will be so we can get the rod out of the holder quick to set the hook. (They are harder to get out when fish puts pressure on the rod) HOWEVER, when using circle hooks I leave it at full fighting drag. If the drag isn't paying out at the strike we wind the reel hard without taking it out of the rod holder to sink the Circle hook before picking up the rod. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for the fast reply, you guys are the best!
Ryan Mclaughlin thanks Ryan!!!!!
Awesome beard bro!
big ron 😁😁👍👍
Great video too!
What kind of rod and tell combo are you using?
Asia Lyttle Accurate Valiant 400 BV-2 reels. Accurate 7020c ML

I have a 12 foot aluminum boat with a small 2 stroke engine, I have yet to catch nice stripers like those, I use live pogues that I catch on hurricane barrier here In Rhode island and I usually stay near there to try to cath stripers but havent caught any, am I using wrong bait not fishing on the right spot?? Hi guys...great vid!
Do you let the bait sink to the bottom or fish mid water?? thanks
Peter Rouse on the bottom with cut bait, this area is big and flat so the current isn’t very strong and the Bait stays on the bottom with no weight. Good question! Thanks.
Thanks for getting back to me Mike! I've got a 3 week bass fishing trip coming up in the Newburyport area in 2 weeks. Your videos are a massive help. Cheers
Peter Rouse thanks brother!!! Catch em ALL!
Haha I'll try buddy! Would love to see you boys do a video hitting the Merrimack Old School!!
Peter Rouse we need to do that. We’ve talked about but never did. Maybe you can meet us out there and show us around.
So jealous!!! Cant catch anything here at the Jersey shore!
what?????????????????? Sandy Hook, NJ never fails!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How would u rig up for the hundson like havestraw Bay Area tide no tide, weight no weight, night time day time ,what your thought
Thomas Wild I have always preferred evenings pretty much everywhere. If there is no tide, I go no weight. From there I go as light as I can get away with. A simple 5/0-7/0 circle hook with cut and whole Bunker would be where I would start. Clams and and bloodworms will do well too, but you will possibly catch lots of smaller fish that way. Grip it and rip it Brother. Try a bunch of stuff and see what sticks. 😁.
Smack down!
Hey man. Great video. What brand and kind of reel is that y’all are using ? I want one. Also, what rod ? Thanks a lot for the info.
Thanks brother. Here is the reel amzn.to/3D9K2LU. Here is the rod catchthefever.com/?afmc=smedley. Use coupon code Smedley5 to save a few bucks 👍
Thanks a lot. I Appreciate the info. 👍🏼
👍👍😁
What brand rod and reels were you using and the sizes.
ChosenCrab8 these are the Accurate 400 Valiant BV-2 reels. The rods are the Accurate Extreme 7020c medium action. My favorite bait rods of all time 😁. These are actually prototypes from when they first came out. Still never broke one and they have been thru hell. You can see they were black and actually called Xnergy at the time. They are dark red now. Seeker blanks.
Mike you ever do any catfishing? I'm gonna set my sea pro up for catfishing and I really like those rod holders you use.
Chris Spivey I fish with Zakk Royce on Gaston some. He is the Blue Cat master!
Chris Spivey the rodholders are CeSmith mid mount adjustables. And Austin Sartin makes the rails. Call him. (336) 687-0519
Mike Smedley I do a lot of fishing on buggs island .. I fish every once in a while on the Kerr side. I actually met zakk and the big cat fever guys at the ramp in Clarksville one night
Chris Spivey they are great guys.
Thanks for the video. Wish you would have shown the bait and how you put it on the hook. New to fishing!!!

Island Outdoors What line size you using?
Thanks for posting, we do something similar in SOCAL, live deans nose hook, slow trolled with fluoro and swivel or even straight line, using a bait runner so when they pick it up they can run and take line. Circle hooks, can't beat the technique.
May I ask what part of the country you are in?
Awesome. This was in NY. Raritan Bay.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Hey Mike--hope you are hunkering down, and that now, or as soon as you can, you can hit the water again. New York to California, out of Long Beach Harbor for me--let's see some tight lines this year, one way or the other.

where and when can we catch fish like that. My wife and I are in our 70s and our boat is a sea boss 180. can we fish in those waters with our boat ? thanks Bill.
bill scott absolutely! I have friends that fish in Kayaks around our areas. Shoot me an email and I will help you all I can. We don't do charters anymore because we fish 20-30 different bodies of water each year, sometimes more. I'm happy to help if I can. Won't cost you anything at least😉. Mikesmedley9@gmail.com
soon as I can figure out how to do gmail, are you close to NC ?
bill scott I live in NC. Gmail is just a regular email address. If you or your wife has an email address we can talk some.
What type of fish were you using as bait?
Cut bunker. This one shows what we use. ua-cam.com/video/WPipTgwOF7s/v-deo.html
What bait do you use
Cut Bunker.
i'm in Oklahoma nice ones what was the Bait?
+tulsa4life menhaden. Bunker.
What is the purpose of a leader line if it's the same lb test monofilament line as the main line?
Without a swivel the line will twist when the bait spins in the current.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS ok that makes sense but with live bait it probably wouldn't matter right?
I almost Always use a swivel. They will swim in circles and make a mess. You can get away without a swivel if you are constantly monitoring the bait, like pitching live baits to Snook or Tarpon- any situation where you’re holding the rod and casting and changing baits often. If it just sits in the rod holder for long periods of time you should used a swivel.
You're the man. Thanks for the reply!
