The real answer Is that people can’t afford to keep their child In the sport In Canada. It truly Is a rich man sport and unfortunately Is robbing potential great kids from continuing It because of the cost. I live It and know It.
Demographic shifts too. You're seeing various ethnic groups align themselves with other sports like basketball, cricket, etc. Trudeau has already said that old stock Canadians should be erased and replaced with people from abroad.
The USHL/NCAA has taken over as the best developmental path. Why go to Swift Current or Erie if you have a full scholarship? That paired with the growing population of USA Hockey means they'll dominate from this point forward.
For years, Hockey Canada has selected 'character' players over the W, O, and Q's top scorers. Now that the rest of the world's programs have evolved, Canada won't win with anything less than their best. Overhaul HC, minimize dumping and chasing, stop plugging up the front of the net with bodies, and start controlling the puck with the best skilled players we have. The scoring issue would be helped by putting scorers in the team - shocking, I know. I don't any of this happening b/c HC is just like our Govt: bureaucratic, political and inept.
You’re kidding yourself . The rest of these countries have the same players training together for years with same coaches and same systems . Canada has gotten fat and sassy ; and it started when they put hockey players on their money
US Hockey has been patterned after Tarasov and the Russian system on developing skills. Tarasov based his system on The Hockey Handbook written by Lloyd Percival back in the 1950's. Canadian Hockey ignored this information. Tarasov studied the game and added in off ice training from ballet and soccer and game tactics from Chess. Tarasov also made it fun for the players. In Canada we have pockets of this but the problem is minor hockey has no development route for new coaches. Its all mostly politics who gets to coach minor hockey. In Europe they have a club system and it is a profession. US is following this system. Also in Canada our hockey system has now gone woke. It is expensive and is not about having fun and developing skills. It is about pushing social agendas onto youth. Britain is even starting to evolve into a better hockey nation. I think in the next 20 years or so you will see the NHL have more US born players in the league and more European born players if we don't put smart competent people in charge of our hockey development system.
Nazem Kadri was born here. The other guys talking about 5 million people here in the last 5 years. They won’t be playing hockey they’re already grown and most likely those students will be deported. I find it interesting with this talk about immigration, a lot of us born and raised here for 3 generations(my grandparents moved here in the 70s) have been personally affected by the shit load of people Trudeau brought in here temporarily. All types of name calling and being called not Canadian for the first time in our lives. Most of us never experienced stuff like this and we aren’t even the ones that came up with this policy. Straight hate because of our skin colour.
The last 2 years of disappointment were under a management system and coaching system that has been fired… they had a 2 year contract and they blew it, before this they dominated and they will continue to do so
The USA hasn’t won a world Championship since 1933 and their last Olympic gold was in 1980 almost a half century ago, so they haven’t exactly been setting the hockey world on fire.
Lets make sure we dont talk about the main reason Canada isn't winning, is that there best players are literally too good for the tournament. What happens last year in sweden if there first line is celebrini centering Bedard and fantilli? or this year with Berdard and celebrini with benson or Mckenna? Not to mention multiple others guys not loaned back of the last 2 years. The reality would be they win every game by 2 plus goals.
There's a bias against Canadian Hockey development to "grow the game" and itll never cede. Canadian Hockey isnt allowed to grow relatively , as has been the gardual trend since the 80s.
In 2004 the NCAA was producing 13% of all NHL draft picks, 2023 it was close to 30%, even a small program like at Mercyhurst has the cash to produce players that the CHL struggles with, the CHL cannot compete with the USHL and feeding into the NCAA both have resources that dwarf the CHL
But has that not been the case forever now or at least since the 90s? If true then NCAA should have been producing more percentage of the draft picks going back to the 90s.
3 golds since 2020 for Canada. This yrs team could have had Bedard and Celebrini lol. Calm down guys. Mcdavid / Mackinnon / Makar are the 3 best players in the world. They are Canadian. Chill out
Canada threw the tournament for ratings. The other countries particularly the US aren’t interested if they always lose. Bjarnasson 6’3 was set to be starting goaltender, let go on Christmas day. Yakmechuk and Parekh snubbed even after the Schaeffer injury lol. Misa/Sennecke arguably Canada’s two best forwards. Why weren’t they on the team? It wasn’t character it was to make the tournament more competitive.
@ 1) you’re guessing 2) this year but if they want to grow viewership other countries need to win. 3) Next year’s championship will now be in the US as well.
Was Ice Hockey always for rich kids only in Canada? I thought Hockey in Canada is like FB, and BB, and Baseball is in the USA. In USA all that is done through the school system. Most public schools have FB, BB, Baseball, Soccer, Tennis, Track and Field, Wrestling, some States like Minn have HS hockey. For younger kids, the Town/City Rec Depts run leagues for little kids. All the Fields and courts are maintained by the Town, Schools.
Have you seen the entire landscape? Glad you enjoy the clip, you'll love the full podcast episode. Give it a watch and let me know what you think my friend! Happy new year :)
It wouldn’t be fun to win every year-other than the fact that if we did we wouldn’t have to listen to Americans talking like hockey’s their sport now. 😂 Wait…maybe we should consider this further.
Ummm carter george was a stud. And the americans are supposed to have weak ntdp crops for the next 2 years according to most hockey pundits....trav you are seriously a windbag
I used to really like Trev, but he has stopped talking hockey and only complains using right wing talking points. I no longer listen to his pod and rarely watch his videos because he has become so 1 note.
Enjoyed the clip for most of what it had to say. But calling the pandemic imaginary when literally a couple million people died from it is ridiculous. Was it a little overblown at times? Yes. But this is a hockey podcast, get your whack theories about real life out of here.

right? With FEW exceptions I'll take D1 and or/the Midwest over the CHL

Easy. Because hockey is a rich man's game now. And the USA is richer. End of story.

Plus CAN U18 just smothered USA U18 like a month ago twice.
They should take the top CHL team in Canada and make them Canadian team for world juniors and have a few pick up players!!!?
Probably cause people can't afford 50 grand a year for there kid to play hockey

This might be the dumbest take I’ve ever seen
I’m guessing roughly 60% of viewers are Canadian. That’s a huge chunk of viewers likely not watching the finals
@ 1) you’re guessing 2) this year but if they want to grow viewership other countries need to win. 3) Next year’s championship will now be in the US as well.
@ that might be the dumbest reply I’ve ever *read* lmao
@ this genius thinks Canada sat 5 of it’s top players… because of their character? Lmao 🤣 explain why they didn’t play then smart guy

At the grassroots level yes, but the vast majority who play at the ELITE junior level are rich.
@ has it always been like that? Did Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr grow up wealthy?
@@MbisonBalrog only in the last 20, 25 years now.
@@geoff3103 so kids born in 80s could make NHL if middle class.
@@MbisonBalrog heck they could make it if they were lower class back then
Canada won back to back 2023 and 2022. Pump the breaks everyone lol

Because the 🇺🇸 is awesome and 🇨🇦 sucks! Glad I left.
