Durango & Silverton Polar Express - 2018

I was pretty excited when I saw the train. On December 21, 2018, we left our hometown to go on vacation to Mountain Village, CO. Our plan was to stay one night in Durango, CO, and 4 nights in Mountain Village. So we got to see the Durango & Silverton narrow gauge Railroad. The first Polar Express Train would depart at 5:15pm. We arrived at the place like at 4:16pm. So I was able to see the 2 engines doing some switching to get the train ready. After the switching was done, we went to explore the town a little bit and came back to the crossing at 5:10pm. The locomotive leading the train this year was D&SNGR 481. It was my first time seeing a narrow gauge railroad.
This is my first time filming trains out of Texas, but my 24th time seeing a train out of Texas.

Durango and Silverton puts a lot of effor into the P.E. event. More than I’ve seen before. The tender is renamed, the Observation Car plaque says “PE”. The most I’ve seen here is just “welcome on polar expres have fun”

Yeah, if you look closely at the tender, you can see how the removed the “Durango & Silverton” lettering for the event to make it more realistic to the movie.

This is why they should mandate Railroad crossing gates to come down when a train activates the railroad crossing signal. I would require all 3 Foot Narrow Gauge Railroads to have Railroad Crossing Signal Gates.
