- On the second day of active service to Silverton for the year 2016 on the D&S, I headed out to railfan the 8:30 departure to as far as Rockwood. We start early in Durango as K-36 is brought forth and onto the train. At 8:30 sharp, the train stomps out of town and along Highway 285 to Hermosa, where the train starts up the grade to Rockwood. Superb. Thank you for posting
Great video of the Durango & Silverton narrow gauge railroad there in Southwestern Colorado. I'm a very serious railroad fan. 7 members of my family worked on the Lehigh Valley railroad out of Coxton Yard which today is the Reading & Northern Pittston yard. I travel by train long distance.
I have traveled by train 68 times since 1972.
You got some really nice shots there. Especially running beside her.
It would be so cool to live in a town that had a steam train. I would ride it as much as I could! They're fun!
This one costs about $200 round trip, worth every penny though!!!
I grew up watching this Train when it still made runs between Durango and Farmington, New Mexico. It was wonderful to watch her going down the tracks. God Bless You.
Wonder whatever happened to the line now between Durango and Chama?
I remember that I film the Durango & silverton narrow gauge railroad with the k-36 D&RGW # 482 from Durango to silverton even to film the diesel swicher, D&RGW # 481, D&RGW # 480, the roundhouse, and the museum.
Nice 👍
LOVE the tracking shots, Nick!!!
One of favorite train rides and a dream job!
Nice footage, enjoyed it. Like the short clip of you pacing there in town just before the main street crossing.
A Very Nice Train and they're a top video., Thanks
Wolfgang
Now this is a great vid.
Great footage!! One gets a chance to see how the suspension really works!!!
6:23 Northern Flicker calls! A flicker is a woodpecker.
Superb shots 👍🏻
That is one very long very heavy train for one small engine. It runs so smooth for a smaller driver locomotive. Huge counter weights on the drivers. You don't see many 2 8 2's. And, that is some of the scariest track I have ever seen too. Those engineers are pretty brave.
Everything there was neat and clean and ran very professionaly
We will be riding it on June 2 this year, on the 2nd trip of the day, but the Cumbres & Toltec is by far my
favorite. The D&S is just too cute. My wife loves it though, especially shopping for trinkets in Silverton.
This year it is her choice and we are taking our grand-daughter for HS graduation.
Awesome Video! I love the D&SNG, don't get to go to often as i live in Florida.
Well I live in MA (Massachusetts) So how do you think I feel? I've never even been and I wanted to go to Durango since I was 6.
*S I X*

Is part 2 coming soon? Really enjoy this footage. Thanks.
Loved the pacing footage. How did you get so steady?
493 might be steaming again from what I heard.
When did they paint the front of 482 silver. I don't recall that when I rode that train back in 2006.
The 482 looks AMAZING!!! Was she overhauled recently?
I don't think so but this was the beginning of the season, so she wasn't covered in as much soot
What is the number of the steam train in the video
Like the video
I really love the shot at 7:43 Great job! And also where is the shot at 14:47 ?
I found it on Google maps just go up the tracks a little bit not to the high mountain ridges but a little bit before that.
Treat to watch
Every whistle on 482 sounds different all in the years.
brian falzon I agree
brian falzon they are all the same whistle. Just tweaked a little different and quilled a little different
Brian Falzon no the whistle they have now are fine
@@brianfalzon6739 their whistles are fine
@@MPT_Productions ok
What's up with the Colorado flag and the American flag? Is that new?
Is it 2.5 feet gauge?
D&SNG is 3' between the rails.
Here we call it meter gauge
Don't u hate when stupid people keep walking in your nice video shot
