You‘re 100% right! Omega made a great job this year! So many cool new releases this year. Also the white Speedy, the new FOIS, the black Seamaster Diver 300M without date! All great watches! Love them all!
I have to say that I'm a fan of all the speedmaster and 300M releases this year. I love the color options showcased this year. This has made me take more note of Omega for my next watch.
I might have gotten the Speedy Pilot if it had been available a couple years ago when I got my Explorer II. Omega has had some great Speedy releases this year. By the way, I love that Speedy Japan Racing LE. It's been one of my favorites pretty much since I got into the hobby in 2018. I may still pick one up some day.
I think omega has done a fantastic job. The 9900 and 9906 are fenomenal chronograph movements that I feel don’t always get the recognition they deserve. If I’m not mistaken the where originally based off of Frederic Piguet chronograph movements. One of the speedmaster variants that I think is amazing is the 57 Launched in 2022. 40,5mm diameter and 13mm thick with the flat link bracelet… it wears like a dream.
💯 - the only negative: why wait this close to Xmas; there’s no way they’ll have them in ADs in numbers to be purchased that quickly. Should have dropped at least 1 month earlier and had production humming by now. Great video; hope the new enterprise is doing well. Merry Xmas.
IMO it's simply marketing. Creating a demand to start out the new year while other brands are being complacent. If you look back to Omega pulling out of Basel world, which frankly led to the end of the show, Omega has very much been controlling the pulse of the watch season of new drops. As mentioned in the video, Omega has been attacking some of the niche watch categories that aren't oversaturated and that's a welcomed approach.
Really like the release, wish this had a display caseback although it's not as 'professional'. Are there others that prefer the steel caseback, and if so why?
If the movement is more robust than a regular speedy why would it be priced the same or lower? Take Rolex for example. An OP and a Air King are the same watch (technically) save for the dial, but Air King cost 1k more. Same with the explorer ii vs GMT 2, add ceramic bezel and charge 1k more. Even though it's not advertised most of these newer more expensive models Omega is releasing will be limited and isn't supposed to supplement staple models like the speedy pro or base 300m.
Omega "Pilot" watch is a joke any real pilots will know why. Fake painted on instruments (Attitude Indicator) are ridiculous, and the other register having a fake non functional "bug" to imitate an aviation instrument is tacky. If they wanted to call it a pilot watch should have made it with a real artificial horizon ahah They might as well painted on a fake altimeter that does nothing. Watch is for 9 year old kids who want to pretend to be pilots. If it was Swatch I get it, but for 10k ??? tacky. What makes it a pilots watch exactly? Because it has paited on instruments and a little plane on seconds hand? Navitimer is a real pilots watch, this on the other hand is as pilots watch as james bond is a real spy. but Bond does not claim to be real. Omega claim its a real pilots watch. pretend kids toy for 10k. Tacky

It’s a more colorful version of a watch Omega made for the US military. It came out of hiding by a leak of the military version on an air force pilot’s wrist (a U2 based on the altitude…edge of space…very butch). I’d have it over the other watches 57 line because the combined hour & minute register is clearer. The two things pilots like on a watch are a timing function to keep track of how much time they have to follow the towers instructions on altitude, and a gmt function to interpret the Zulu information (its time stamp is given in Greenwich mean time). You can always set your watch to Zulu time in the air so even a dive watch can fit the requirements.
It's extremely gimmicke I totally agree. The original Flight masters were way cooler. I rather buy an original and have thousands left over. The Omega fan boys will love the new one though. That's 101 for the Omega guys. You have to love every single version of the Speedmaster

The clasp is a normal clasp like the one on the speedy racing edition which it shares it's movement with. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Revue Thommen made a functional mechanical altimeter watch for less than 1000 bucks. (Adjusted for inflation) No excuses for Omega.
