- Nissan lower idler pulley and belt replacement - 1999 Altima. Recently making noises. I couldn't tell if it was coming from one of the pulleys, the alternator, power steering pump or air conditioner pump. Then one day at a stop light smoke started coming out from under my hood because the upper idler pulley had locked up and was smoking the belt. After replacing the top idler I still had noise coming from somewhere. It turns out my bottom idler was going bad at the same time as the top! In today's video I change out the bottom ilder pulley and replace the belts.

I change my A/C compresor both belss the lower pully and still get a noise and my air conditioning not working. Any idea? Thanks
many steering locking system render many individuals stranded . luckily they really are an easy task to remedy along with the updated part is not high priced . We have a do-it-yourself on it over at my channel as well .

I have the same year sentra. You really have to loosen all those bolts to get the belt off? I just need to tighten the belt a bit on the tensioner.
mine just fell off!! 89K miles had no power steering and the brake light came on?

I also had to do that one but I did not make a video. If I remember right I had to loosen up a motor mount and jack up the engine a little.
whats that pulley called next to the one youre installing on the right at 4:17 my moms is loose and moving and wanna see how to replace it thanks.

Are both idle pulleys the same size? Top and bottom?
Bad Hombre 999 I believe one is larger in diameter. Some come with a smooth pulley as well. Just depends on the year and make.
do u have to lift the car
I changed the upper idler pulley, and my car barely ran afterwards and now it won't crank at all. It's a 1998. Please help!!
Hmmmmm That is weird. The battery is good and has a full charge? Usually when that happens to me it's because either my battery has died or the cables are corroded.
Is this the reason why theirs a squealing sound everytime I turn mine on?
Possibly a worn belt or bad tensioner. I always had trouble with mine squealing the entire time I had the car!

RyanDale311 dang. Well I ordered some pulleys. I'm pretty sure it's the lower tensioner/idler. It currently sounds like a Hemi engine I just did a tune up and changed the oil pressure switch as well...so now I just need to do this and possibly my passage side cv axel. The boot is wore out. It's got over 200k miles...it's due for a makeover in the undercarriage. Lol
To change the upper pulley you must take the bolts out of the motor mounts as well as the alternator then you have to lift the engine. Not as fun as it sounds but all pulleys have been changed and the vehicle no longer sounds like a Hemi.
Wow, it sounds like you had quite a bit of work to do! Mine has just over 200,000 as well and my undercarriage could also use an undercarriage makeover haha
