    the 5 reasons are:
    1º in-ear monitors doesn´t mess up my hair
    2º They create a sleek, low-profile look! Helps with brand!
    3º it´s portability! small size, light-weight, easy to carry with you!
    4º Makes you look better in photos and headshots!
    5º They also act as ear plugs to protect our ears from damage!
    I hope that I saved your time ;)

    • @djmojoeofficial

      You can hear your music using either one of them. Difference is the form factor and size. I feel more comfortable with in-ears. Yes, you can DJ all in your headphones. But my DJ style is having one ear listening to headphone/in-ear and the other ear exposed so I can hear my environment for any crowd reaction and awareness

      There’s a lot of benefits to using IEMs…I’ve used them to perform for the last 15 or so years..mainly because they’re just better at protecting my ears, don’t need to turn the headphone volumes way up… 2nd I never need to use the booth monitor especially if ur gear has split cue.

    I'm about to buy the same earphones for djing. I'm worried only for 1 thing: maybe they isolate too much and the DJ does not have the perception of the volume that people are hearing and therefore risks raising the master too much. Do you think there is this possibility? Otherwise you should only keep one headset only, as you do with the big ones

    • @djmojoeofficial
      @djmojoeofficial  2 роки тому +2

      Great comment and concern, I know what you mean. I DJ using 1 in-ear (my right ear to be exact) while my left ear open to hear my monitor, surroundings, and coordinator if they're trying to get my attention.
      And if volume is your concern for the people who are listening, I have a few suggestions 1. Have your assistant monitor the sound for you 2. before the event starts, play at full volume and walk around the room to hear how you sound and set that as the volume level, then when the room is full, walk out again and listen if the level needs to be adjusted. 3. Then look at the mixer board to see which level the volume is hitting on the meter and match the track volume/gain/trim that you play to hit that level that you know is the right volume for the crowd.

      @@djmojoeofficial Doesn't that defeat the whole object of protecting your ears, won't you end up damaging one ear??

    • @djmojoeofficial
      @djmojoeofficial  Рік тому

      Good question, it really depends on my environment.
      If I’m in my booth where the environment isn’t that loud, I wear my in-ears with one piece off and control the volume on my floor monitor to hear my music.
      If I’m in an environment where it is really loud and I have no control of how it sounds, then I put on both in-ears and just mix that way.

    • @djmojoeofficial
      @djmojoeofficial  Рік тому

      A good example why I sometimes mix with 1 in-ear is during the dinner portion of the night. It isn’t that loud in the room, and I want to be able to be aware of my environment, hear guests reaction, etc. and adjust my floor monitor’s volume just enough to have a good blend of music and surroundings

      You're welcome. They basically operate like headphones, but in a smaller scale. You would mix as you would as if you were wearing headphones. I just enjoy in-ear monitors because of their low-profile design and the sound quality is just as good depending on which ones you get.

    What are your thoughts on getting custom fitted IEMs AND wearing a noise isolating headphone?
    Especially if you're a prof DJ that does back to back nights or wtv, and you want the ultimate long-term health, wouldn't that be the best?
    Read a comment about wearing both on reddit as the ultimate way to mix while maintaining ear health. Especially since IEM keep the highs really good.

    Great video. I have a couple of questions!
    How did you find a good pair to buy?
    Are you able to determine what you hear in each ear? James Hype is a DJ that uses in ear minitors and he is able to listen to the master in his right ear and his cues in his left.
    Also, is the cable end just a simple aux input you can put into most DJ boards?

      Sound performance depends on which ones you get. There may be some in-ears that don’t sound exactly what you expect so check out the reviews on which ones you’re looking at.
      You also need to consider the right fit of in-ears. I currently own custom molded ones from Ultimate Ears and they fit and sound great. They help with blocking outside sound so you can hear your music clearly. In-ears is much more convenient for me to easily wear without bulky headphones. Just preference.

In-ear monitors require some level of self discipline. They feel more comfortable for sure. In addition, for picture purposes, i always take pictures with the bride and the groom, and the large over ear headphones makes it a great prop for the bride to wear or hold while taking the picture.

    Stumbled upon this video and sent it to another dj's youtube page when the guy asked "what kind of headphones do you use?" I switched to IEM types
    to protect my hearing as well and the guy thought your video was made by me. Tells you a little racist other djs are still in the midwest, thinking me---who is way older than you, was me. Maybe I should shave off all my hair or get a nose ring. Anyways good video.

    Man you know that I like you a lot, but really putting all the “I look”, “the way I look” and the hair stuff and style first sucks!!! The only good thing you’ve placed it last and overlooked the whole acoustic benefits!!! Loving you! ❤️🙏
    Of course looking good matters but it comes last not 1st!!! 😉✌️

    Hi there, I’m also a DJ but from Canada and have had many gigs like charity events, birthday parties, parties in general and recently a wedding. I recently came across your channel and appreciate the videos and your work as a DJ. As a DJ myself I have been using beats headphones and came across your self using in ear monitors and I’d like to know if you have them connected to your controller or to a transmitter and somehow using them that way during your sets? I’m just curious as I have just bought a pair as myself. Thanks, and hope to hear from you soon :)

      Hi Rasheed, greetings from California! The ones that I use are wired so it connects directly to my controller. It’s 1/8” but comes with a 1/4” adapter.

    5 Reasons NOT to DJ with In-Ear Monitors
    1) Image Issues- Headphones will easily identify you as the DJ. Also, with in-ear monitors, you won't have something to tame your hair, lol.
    2) Lack of Awareness- Some in-ear monitors isolate the sound and block out your ability to listen to other people when they talk to you or even you own sound system. As the DJ, you need to know exactly how your system is sounding, so you can make adjustments in volume and EQing. Adding in-ear monitors to the "mix", makes it harder to know what the audience is actually listening to.
    3) Isolation from Crowd- Since in-ear monitors are sometimes difficult to "install" in your ears, you'll have to you leave them in all the time. The DJ might feel disconnected from the audience. Guests might think that they shouldn't talk to you. Do you really want to block off all sounds coming from the crowd, including when the yell, scream, sing the songs out loud, etc. Do you really want to miss that part of the action?
    4) More work- Having to worry to recharge the battery and keeping it working.
    5) Expensive- Some of the higher quality professional in-ear monitors cost over $500. To DJ, you can easily get away with using a $30 to $40 headphone.
    In you're interested in protecting your hearing, you can use an ear plug that doesn't alter the sound, it just lowers the volume.

    If you want to protect your ears use earplugs like “earpiece” and then standard dj headphones. With in ear headphones you receive all the sound without filter with no control , remember all songs are in different volume levels. Protect your ears

    • @djmojoeofficial
      @djmojoeofficial  5 років тому +2

      Thanks for your feedback! I guess that’s another way to do it, good alternative!
      I also recently got custom in Ears which definitely helps block out outside sound more so I just hear my music. Great thing is that I can control the volume I let in to my ears on my controller so I don’t need to blast them. Yes, all songs are at different volume levels. One way that I’ve fixed that is running my tracks through Platinum Notes to make them at a standard volume level. That way, I don’t need to keep adjusting my volume levels for my in-Ears all the time. But yes, def protect your ears! 🙌

    What do you do when someone wants to talk to you? You shouldn't be hiding in your headphones all night. TBH you shouldn't even need headphones to mix AT ALL.

    • @djmojoeofficial
      @djmojoeofficial  5 років тому

      You can either wear one on one ear and the other is free to hear what’s going on. If I wear both, I just quickly remove one so I can hear what the other person is saying. Hope that helps.
      True, you don’t headphones to mix. It just helps me to mix better and make it clean. It helps me verify that the next track is a good song to mix into next. Maybe not so much into mixing, but maybe more into music selection and knowing how and when you want to drop the next track in :)
      Do you DJ too?

    • @poodlelord
      @poodlelord 5 років тому +1

      @@djmojoeofficial Not really. How would you feel if your barista had an ear bud in while taking your order? This looks unbelievably unprofessional IMO.

    • @djmojoeofficial
      @djmojoeofficial  5 років тому +1

      In the barista context, I think they should have ear protection if the environment they’re in is too loud. There are ear plugs out there that reduce the volume without muffling the voice so you can still carry the conversation. I think it’s smart in my opinion. These in-ear monitors wouldn’t exactly be for them because they aren’t mixing or need to listen to music while they work. If they wear plugs that hinder them from hearing what their customers are saying, then they’re wearing the wrong plugs.
      For the DJs, we’re only using them when we mix for the most part. If we’re not DJing or we’re outside of a loud environment, then we can have them off to have a conversation. And it lets people know that we’re busy DJing whenever we have them on, but if we want to talk to the person, we can just easily remove them. Does this make sense?

    • @poodlelord
      @poodlelord 5 років тому +1

      Your EGO is at a 10, you really only have the budget for a 2. So have a slice of humble pie, cause you wont win anyone over with condescension.
      My point with the barista is more that having any thing in your ears when someone is trying to talk to you is disrespectful. I wear earplugs when I DJ because I use big over ear cans, i still take them out when taking someones request.
      I never EVER want to give a guest the impression that I am too busy to talk to them or take a request, because I never really am. A good wedding DJ can have a fluent conversation while holding down a dance floor.
      BTW get a real haircut, you look ridiculous with all that gel.

    • @djmojoeofficial

      Sorry if I came across that way. I know we barely know each other and I know sometimes our intentions with communication can be lost through text, so I’m not taking it personal.
      I always welcome feedback and like to hear thoughts from others’ perspective, good or bad. You’ll have your opinion and I’ll have mine. You’ll have whatever that works for you, and I’ll have whatever that works for me. I don’t mean to be condescending. I haven’t said anything bad about you, have I?
      Well anyways, thanks for sharing your thoughts and best to you and your endeavors.
