THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS | Bond gets kitted out

- The Aston Martin V8, a key fob with stun gas, explosives and skeleton keys and a booby trapped sofa - Bond (Timothy Dalton) gets kitted out for his mission by Q (Desmond Llewelyn) in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS (1987). Sadly the sofa didn’t make the trip…
Dalton the way walks into that scene...that is pure Bond
Oh yes!
@@LALakersNornIron but I feel sorry for Q I mean I do I saw the car and I was like oh my God muscle car for bond but then I thought oh no he’s gonna destroy it in boy he did and that was a Bomer
Timothy Dalton was more respectful to Q than the other 007s
Probably because he wasn’t cracking as many puns about Q’s gadgets than the others
Brosnan would wind him up but I liked their dynamic equally to this one
He did put a plastic explosive on his face and threatened to set it off.
I thought Moore was alright with Q.
Especially in License To Kil.
Dalton actually is quite humorous in this scene with the sarcasm and the subtle prank he played on Q.
Interestingly Dalton was Llewelyn’s favourite Bond
Really? Did he say why...
Vicrum he felt he most closely resembled Fleming’s idea of Bond
Subo23 I thought that might be the reason. He is right in thinking that as well. Even looks a lot like that drawing that Fleming did.
Did he like Connery’s bond? He is my favourite...
Makes sense. They had the best chemistry from the movies I've seen
I personally loved TD as 007. He read the books (as did I) and he played Bond as he's written.
The fact that Dalton was an absolute unit helped.
He did? That's amazing and very having committment.
he was a serious actor, classically trained and what not. And he took this job SUPER seriously.
I don't think the results matched his effort. I love his two films and in 2024 I think the viewing public ranks them much higher in retrospect. But he should have had more films to work with.
Couldn't agree more. TD was my 007. @@patrick4662
a unit? What does that mean?
They never did find that guy down the back of the sofa, although they did turn up £1.42 in loose change, a pen top and a half eaten Yorkie bar
He's in the Game Boy game
@@andreasbalaskas7292 I use it when the JWs come around..
Dibs on the Yorkie.
the pen top opens 100% of locks
thats sofa king funny
The absolute fear in his voice when he yelled “STOP!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Living Daylights is my favourite Bond film. John Barry’s score is just perfection. I implore everyone to get the EMI-released soundtrack.
The soundtrack is fantastic.
How do you get it ?
Yeah it’s a great soundtrack, probably my favourite pre-Arnold score. Tho I have a soft spot for Bill Conti’s FYEO score.
I would have liked more focus on Brad Whittaker but other than that, great Bond movie
@@OFFtheCHIZANE Those two, along with Skyfall, are my absolute favourites as well. All of them work really well with the scenes and stir up all the right emotions!
"90 % of the world's locks" that felt like a set up to bond finding the one lock that doesn't work with it
The wolf whistle is for that one lock...
The Living Daylights is one of my most favourite Bond films!!!... also what a great supercar!!!!!!!
Timothy Dalton is special, apart from the fact that he is terribly handsome.
He is also a slasher...

Dalton is the sexiest bond 🥵🫠😍
Really I saw him on the theater back in the 80s. I smiled no blush to little bit I mean oh my God he is a stud of high caliber. I mean good Lord and his voice is like smooth, like milk chocolate oh my God in those eyes, I can swim in those forever and never get tired of it because at the end of the day, he is the most sexiest bond I’ve ever seen wow, God Timothy, you were the bomb
I say this as an almost completely heterosexual dude (only Bowie and Liam Neeson have ever made me consider otherwise, and one of those doesn't even count,) Timothy Dalton in his prime was one handsome bastard.
1:21 - that slick smile before he went to whistle the code 🤣 Dalton coming second in a recent Radio Times poll (Unliad and the millennials who put Craig above Connery need a word with themselves) simply reaffirms my belief that he should of done at least two more Bond films before stepping down.
The thing is Licence To Kill didn't make the money that EON wished they did in the US. I think that played a factor on why Dalton only did 2.
greatwuta Legal issues were the cause. LTK’s performance wasn’t the reason for Dalton’s departure. He simply told Albert Broccoli that he wanted to do one more and step down, but they wanted him to do at least 4 or 5. He respectfully declined.
should have
@@greatwuta I think the problem was the 15 certificate. People didn't want a gritty violent Bond and it stopped most teenagers from seeing it. Plus the legal issues and the political situation changing also had something to do with it.
Craig above Connery is just Recency Bias. If you did a poll of Gen X during the Brosnan years they would have put him above Connery as well. It takes a few years to gain wisdom and perspective.
There's always an ill-fated Q section staff fallen victims to the man's many toys.
For Queen and country.
Got to haze the new guy in a very British manner.
Sadly Smithers is no longer with us
Their kind of hazing.
Timothy Dalton is a HIGHLY underrated James Bond
Dalton looks to Q like a child to his dad...very respectful ....i never saw a bond who was more a flemming bond than him...❤❤
All these years of this being one of my favourite and most watched 007 films, and I only just noticed the two assistants saying "uh-oh" and walking away when Q gives Bond the keyring finder...
Snap!
Dalton is underrated
So is this film
Davider Correct
I agree. Dalton has always been my favorite Bond aside from Connery and Craig.
I grew up with Roger Moore, and I thought Brosnan was great, but Dalton, I think, is my favorite.
Dalton and Craig are my two favourites but Dalton just takes the top mark for me, by an hair. Very telling that Dalton (sadly) only did two movie and Craig is onto his fifth (and final)
Lee Croft "by a hair" indeed. Craig is great and all but... blonde? Seriously? No no no. They should have made him dye his hair black for the part. A blonde James Bond id just ... wrong
I love that Bond is so self-aware of his own antics, he instantly assumes the key fob has an explosive in it. The fact that he's right just helps his ego.
That explains the blast Mark on the table!
A great film Dalton, was a brilliant bond he was voted 2nd.In the public list of rated bonds.I wish he did Goldeneye, it was ready made for him.
troll randon It was originally written with Dalton in mind - especially the original script before Brosnan even started.
@@LexingtonDeville984 Hi your exactly it was written with Dalton, in mind
Michael Lawrence And Sean Bean wasn’t meant to be the bad guy. Anthony Hopkins, Alan Rickman and Jeremy Irons all turned down the role until Bean was cast as Alec Trevelyan.
@@LexingtonDeville984 Hi saw an article about that in 1994 they even wanted tom hanks as the villain he declined it too
troll randon Remington Steele contract made him back out, mate. What’s your point? I don’t want to be mean, but you Brosnan fanboys are ultra irritating.
Probably the most beautiful bond car ever.
Yeh definitely prettier to look at than the ugly grate on the DB5
Indeed it is - I was happy when it made an appearance in No Time To Die (sorry for the spoilers folks!)
@@Bikerz_rule that’s ok I wasn’t really going to watch it anyway 👍
@@Bikerz_rule it was in the trailer so no spoilers technically.
Definitely the best looking aston martin ever made its beautiful the db5 doesn't do it for me. This car is what every man wants in there lives 🙄
Sean Connery's interactions with Q were more like a work place Rivalry.
Roger Moore's Q relationship was more akin to Brother style bickering.
Pierce Brosnan and Daltons Relationship was like a deeply caring uncle or Grandfather.
Daniel Craig's relationship with Q was like a father with conservative views and a son whose more liberal in thought. Bond being the father of course lol.
All extremely entertaining and brilliant! I do think that Craig’s Bond and Q became more equals as the films went on which I liked, they reach a common ground with one another. I have my issues with No Time To Die, many in fact, but Q’s scenes were wonderful and his presence in both SPECTRE and that film reminded me very much of Desmond’s more active role in Licence to Kill!
I always thought Dalton was the best bond. He was both charming and deadly without looking like it's forced. All the other actors could not pull off both traits of bond. They were either deadly or charming but not both.
Connery?
Then you gotta watch For Your Eyes Only. Moore can kill a guy in cold blood naturally when the script is right.
@@myscrnnm Roger Moore was the worst Bond. His character lacked that dangerous element and he was a clown most of the time.
@@stomp21 Are you for real? This is the same Bond who locked a guy in a drug container and left him to suffocate, let a guy fall off a building after interrogating him, shot a man in the nuts, stole another guy's parachute, pushed an injured man off a cliff, and smacked a guy in the face and let him fall off an airplane. Most of the other Bonds typically only kill in self defense.
@@myscrnnm I loved when he kicked the car of the cliff with the baddie inside (eventhough Sir Moore didn’t like it) and when he threw a knife at the baddie after falling off a train. Stonecold
The living daylights is in my top 5 bond movies for sure 👏🏻👏🏻
People: “Dalton was the serious one”
Q Branch: “Hold my ghetto blaster and revolving couch”
Timothy Dalton is the best James Bond ever. Deserved more than just two films
yes he could have done one more or two more films before Brosnan took over.
"ever'??????
@@prakashm1468 yes! ever! 🤣
I love how the key ring finder has Phillips' brand name on it... How much did that even help their TV sales back in 1987 lol?
Probably more than that Nintendo deal ever did, I can guarantee you that.
Dalton's voice is fuckin heavenly and his shoulders in that suit!❤️😍💯
Dalton was a gem, simple and pretty, but elegant, the sexiest James Bond of all and I doubt there will ever be another as handsome, he deserved more movies
@@lauramLadyAnime❤️He sure is and I've always wondered if something else happened behind the scenes that may have been at play for that happening?🤔
I found it bizarre and ridiculous how some Bond fans criticized his accent. Um, the title character has been played by Scots, Australians and Irishmen so I heard Bond's voice with many different accents. Note: Dalton is Welsh. I thought his voice sounded like I would imagine Bond in real life. Many people who have read the novels say Dalton's performance is the most faithful to Fleming's work.
@@largol33t12 well because he was a fan of Flemings work, and when you’re a fan of the franchise that you were about ready to sign up for that means you know what you’re doing and I would meet him special is that he knew who bond was from the inside out and I’m sorry, but Daniel Craig does not fit the bill in my opinion in my opinion, he should’ve been casted as somebody who is like a bouncer or security Humanz the front door of a casino, or any other establishment does not bond Timothy Dalton will always will be, and it’s just sad that they gave him the boot, but good and it’s just sad that the culture of that time did not understand what he was doing and at least gave the poor man a chance on what he was trying to accomplish but at least we have two films to look back at and it’s just sad that there wasn’t a third or fourth I would’ve been out the theater for those numerous of times and I would’ve been happy
@@largol33t12 He's not Welsh. He was simply born there. He's English and grew up in England.
"where just winterizing this..." Closes panel with two man-sized targets directly adjacent to car.
Freaking british humor.
As much as how Dalton's Bond are famously known as "Proto-Craig's Bond" for more grounded, take themselves seriously and gritty version of 007, at least this movie (The Living Daylight) has Q's laboratory that full of gadgets (disposal sofa and ghetto blaster) which is something that missing in current James Bond movies (Craig's Bond movies, because ReAliSm) and I hope that next Bond movie would have this type of stuff.
i try to wonder scenarios these silly gadgets woul be useful in. A leg cast that fires a missle. A ghetto radio. A sofa that eats a guy. A phonebox that a cushion crushes a guy in etc
@@AzguardMike Exactly. I hope this silly scenes to never come back. They cant do the same movies for fifty years, 007 has to evolve. He is a elegant, cold and deadly assasin, a bit misogynits, never showing his emotions type of guy, 200% alpha. The rest is secundarious. Those gadgets look too stupid in 2021. Im also tired of villains who reveal their big plans with Bond atached to a bed with a laser pointing to him. Please, lets return to Casino Royale style.
Personally, I think Ben Wishaw's Q is proving to be just as witty as Desmomd Llewelyn was.
@@edwinreid8355 Yes, its true. I prefer the Casino Royale general tone. Much more grounded and realistic. 007 has an Aston with a medical kit and a special compartiment for guns, cool enough. We don't need a scene with a scientific showing it to James. Spectre was simply ridiculous.
Also Q should NEVER be younger than Bond. I don't care how brilliant an individual is, the head of a department in a major governmental agency would be in their mid 40s at the youngest. In monolithic bureacratic hierarchies it takes at least 20 years to rise to the head of a section. Q in the Craig movies looks like he still gets pimples.
when the guy gets swallowed up by the couch 😄gets me everytime
Dimothy Dalton should have made more bond. He was a high calibre actor.
0:45 is the look of James Bond.
Can't wait to see that beautiful Aston Martin again in No Time To Die!
I love it because we get to see you know another side of on a little playful side when he’s playing with Q and it is adorable and a smile. Oh my God.
I was going to mention how awesome Dalton was and how as a fan of the books... Yep I am in the camp that Dalton fits that ideal very well....
I was also going to mention Cary Lowell and that haircut and how I think Eva Green and Monica Bellucci are the two most beautiful women in the world.... But i just got some really shitty news and like world has just crumbled.... So i am going to say that to all the Bond fans out there, no matter your age, nationality, background etc. You guys are the best in the world. Bond fans rule. I'm 37 and LTK holds a special place in my heart, my dad had it on VHS, but Goldeneye really was IT for me...
I love chatting with Bond fans from the books to movies to games to food to drinks to everything. Bond brings people together and whoever reads this, you are awesome. It's been a horrible time for the world and I wish you and your loved ones the best.
Goldeneye all the way!
I've read the books, so Timothy Dalton is my favorite Bond, as he really understands the character. Plus, he is SO killer good looking!! I could look at him and listen to that masculine voice over and over!
"We're just winterizing this..."
Boy, did they ever, LOL.
1:04 It’s kind of brilliant that although “Bond has just the gadgets he needed for the plot” still applies, Q invented the bomb with blowing open safes in mind, and Bond ended up using it for THAT.
Yeah, the Gadgets have always been deus ex machinas…
Although they do get used differently than their intended purpose from time to time..!
@@AndorRadnai I love it when that happens!
A bomb set off by a certain tune is a cool idea, they should have done that more in the series.
Too much! This has become one of my favorite movies over time and my favorite of all in the James Bond saga.
I think John Glen directed some of the best Bond films in my opinion including this one. A lot of my favourites are by him.
Timothy Dalton was not my favorite Bond but he did good for his short time as Bond.
He wasn’t my fav Bond either but he was not half bad.
Okay
To bad the bond films went through a hiatus after license to kill with Dalton because he would have done great in Golden Eye.

Australian Intelligence uses a few bars from "Down Under."
Okay but that look in Bond's eyes after putting on the gas mask and then being asked to whistle is brilliant.
Notice how the lab guys immediately signal each other as Bond and Q go over the key ring finder? That’s subtly for you!
Hope No Time To Die has a classic Q scene 👌
Ain’t gonna happen. Young Q has been in 3 of the 4 DC Bond films, and they’ve never given him any time with being old school gadget Q, always techy nerd Q.
‘A modern Q for the modern Bond’
@@DrewSavo Craig movies never have any Q branch employee gag moments
Well I'm hoping Phoebe Waller Bridge don't mess up No Time To Die.
The car featured here does make an appearance, the Aston Martin Volante V8, so they clearly knew at least part of Bond's fanbase cite this as their fave film.
I prefer this over a lot LTK and always have. Because i like to have a few gags in the Bond movies. LTK is way too serious. In this scene it was very clear that the filmmakers were reeking back to the Roger Moore era and had a good time doing so
I didn't mind the tone of LTK. Unfortunately, the greatest flaw of the film is Bond himself. His characterization fluctuates throughout the film; depending on the scene, he's either an irritable jackass who pushes away his friends or he's the vintage, charismatic 007. He is also given a poor motivation to go rogue. Who cares about Felix or Della ? By the time film concludes, it ultimately didn't all matter because the crippled Felix doesn't give a shit that his bride was murdered and Bond is back in the service. The whole film is just a desperate attempt at playing catch up with Lethal Weapon and it's ilk.
I will never figure out why you hate Licence To Kill so much.
greatwuta Its too full of brutality for a Bond movie. Which is the main reason because i saw it for the first time when I was still pretty young and I dont have a good memory of it at all. And at that, Talisa Soto is not a good actress. You can see her lack of acting in nearly every scene she‘s in. Dalton and the villain are pretty good but I found the second half to be pretty boring too (From Bond‘s first attempt to kill Sanchez onwards) We didn‘t get a scene in which Felix said a proper and real thank you to Bond for revenging him and also no scene showcasing Felix mourning for his wife. I wish the filmmakers would also have gone deeper with his shark bite as well. Then, there are parts like the fight scene in the bar that feel out of place and more like they belong in a Tarantino western
Davider LTK dares to stray from the conventional Bond tropes. That’s why you don’t like it.
@@davider6884 I hear you Davider. I hear you.

Caroline Bliss was the best Moneypenny too although she only got to act the role briefly about less than fifteen minutes in the two Dalton Bond movies and he was the best Bond.
