  • This video is a compilation of my Freediving footage and exploration of the Falkland Islands. I visit remote beaches, mountains, coves and Kelp Forests.
The Falkland Islands is an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean. Found on the Patagonian shelf to the east of Argentina. It is most commonly known for the Falklands war in 1982, and its outstanding biodiversity.
The Falklands felt wild and unspoilt. Often I would be the only person on a beach that was 4Km long. But i wasn't always alone.
I encountered Penguins, Dolphins, Seals, Sea lions to name a few. I had the pleasure of swimming with these truly magnificent animals, something I am very proud of.

Looks wonderful, I'll be heading out there soon. What beaches did you go to? And how accessible are they? Not likely that I'll have a car

Hi mate, so I mostly went around the coastline near Bertha's beach, Yorke Bay and other beaches near Stanley. If you could get yourself a vehicle it would be worth it. If you're near Stanley then Yorke Bay and the beaches near it are all within walking distance. Bertha's beach is around 15Km from MPC. I couldn't travel too much so there were loads of places I didn't get a chance to see!
Would love to go back, you'll have a great time if you like wildlife and the outdoors.

Incredible footage, the falklands don’t come to mind thinking of freediving locations but looks amazing

      @@robbiesomers3381 Thanks mate!
It was such a great place for wildlife.
The diving was cold, most of the time the visibility was pretty good and the wildlife speaks for itself.
I only saw a tiny piece of what this place has to offer too! Definitely worth visiting and getting in the water.

Awesome video! At what time of year did you go and how thick was your wetsuit :) And how'd you find so many dolphins woow!

      Hi and thanks very much!
I was there from Jan - Feb, so late summer/ autumn. My suit is 5.5mm which was enough for me but the water only was mostly 10-11degrees C. Went down to 8 before I left.
The Dolphins were a fluke! The first time I visited Bertha's beach I saw them and they were there without fail every time I went after! Over time they got more used to me and hung around for longer. It was awesome!
      Thanks for watching!

@@OceanicMatt Amazing! I might be going at the same time of year in 2025, hoping they'll still be around ;)

That'll be good, the weather was really nice then. And I hope you find them, you'll have a great time! The beach is 4 miles long so they should be there somewhere. If they aren't, I've seen them near Fox point too!
      Hope that helps!

@@OceanicMatt Thanks a lot it sure helps ;) Did you use a rental car to get to Bertha's beach (it seems a bit far from Stanley) ?

I was working at MPC so Bertha's was closer to me. I'd either walk (2.5 hours!) or use a hire vehicle depending on what was available. It's around an hour drive from Stanley!
