- One of my last flights aboard one of the last flights of the MD 90 airplane. Though not as popular as the MD 88, this plane will be remembered alongside its fellow md-series planes as one of the most iconic
planes in the sky.

Now this... Is what I call and engineers perspective... Don't care about the scenery, don't care about the airport... JUST. THE. ENGINES
Fantastic video. I had a chance to fly a Delta MD-90 last February, and it didn't disappoint. Always loved the V2500 engine sounds on Spirit's A320s (which I flew pretty regularly before COVID), and figured that they would be even better up close :)
Iconic plane! And these V2500 look awesome on it. Sad to see them go.
That orange paint job on the fan is rather mesmerizing
Yea it's great and called a spinner
Love the mad dog 90
Watching this now after just becoming a DAL worker. I would have LOVED to deal with the pain in the butt of servicing these babies.
MD80/90 Series was the best ever produced IMHO
Pretty strong opinion you got there. I personally put it behind the 757 because it can travel further and takeoff like a rocket
Almost sounded like an IAE V2500 engine. IMPRESSIVE ROAR !!!🤩🤩🤩
@Idiot Beach Productions Oh I see... thanks for the information
@Idiot Beach Productions v2500
Awesome video I like the orange thing a lot you make the best videos of planes
Great engine view! ☺️
This sounds like an A320 and I LOVE IT
Nice video. The V-2500 sounds completely different on the MD-90 than on the A319/320/321.
@@timoswindowseat7045 the a320ceo family use the v2500 engine and the cfm56 depending on what the airline selects when ordering from Airbus
@@jcspotter7322 That's right but I am just talking about the V-2500.
Brilliant video with that buzzsaw sound of RB211 engines.
This is the IAE V2525, different engine on a different plane
@@jcspotter7322 Oh...sorry for that. I thought it was RR because of its spiral pattern on its spinner cone.
@@moondeitiesThis engine looks similar to the RB211 like on the 757.
@@moondeities IAE and ROLLS ROYCE actually partnered for these engines so you are right in recognizing the design similarities!
This video is really centered on the plane’s engine!
Thanks!
@@jcspotter7322 thank you sir! I enjoyed it!
Those engines sound amazing!
Looovee that engine view!!
Oh my gosh, that’s so cool.
@@ChrisZoomER thanks, I miss this bird
@@jcspotter7322 Same here, same here.
Great vid. What were the passenger loads on these flights?
The loads were about 60%, the 2 side has 1 person per row and the 3 side had 2 people with the middle seat blocked out. Though the back half was less full, nobody sat next to me on any of the flights.
JT-8Ds love the sound they make!
The md-90 didn't have jt8ds
I do have a video of the md88 taking off. That one does have jt8d
Powerful engine sounds @5000rpm
Yep, I'm gonna miss those sounds
0:43 roar
The engine intake is too dirty as well as the compressor fans. It gives us the impression of being unbalance but, anyway, I like its sound!
Nah, it's just fine
Airbus Engines IAE V2500. Airbus A340 Engines Rolls Royce or CFM56
Is that a question of which I prefer?
@@jcspotter7322 no
@@ugp7698 ok, what am I supposed to do with this information...
@@jcspotter7322 lmao i didnt understand either
The engine nearly sounds the same as IAE V2500 Engines!
That's because it it the IAE V2500
Powerful engine about 5000rpm
Easily more than that
What seat numbers for best engine view on a rare MD-90 fuselage mounted engine jet plane?
I sat in 36e, but this plane is retired now so unfortunately it doesn't really matter now.
Interesting it sounded like they powered up the engine after takeoff. Don't they usually power down once in the air and the landing gear is retracted?
Do you have a timestamp to I can see what you're talking about?
@@jcspotter7322 Happens just after 1:32
@@russell7926 Sounds like they realized it wasn't up all the way and bumped it up, could've also been my hand over the mic, it's happened before
The aircraft was taking off with a reduced power setting. Most takeoffs are at reduced power. When they selected climb power at 1000 feet it happened to be a higher power setting. I noticed that on the video as well.
Its the transition to climb power which is a function of cost index. So sometimes the cost index is higher than the de rate for takeoff.
Sounds exactly like a A320 😂
Crazy stuff, It's like they used the same engine!
@@jcspotter7322 IAE V2500, GE90 and Trent XWB On Top!
how do you get atc audio like that during the flight?
That wasn't atc, it's just background noise, fa announcements and such
It's engine is too noisy, because there's too much vibration in the compressor maybe.
That's just how the engine sounded; plus it sounds much louder because you're right next to the engine
Or, maybe because you're RIGHT NEXT TO A JET ENGINE 🤔 😂😅
It’s from the fan blades going supersonic. Newer engines with bypass gears don’t tend to spin as fast and thus, the buzz saw is (unfortunately) mostly eliminated or eliminated entirely
Pw v2500 roar 7500 rpm
Airbus a320 = MD-90 IAE V2500
Not all the a320s have iae engines, there's a solid chunk (especially in Delta's fleet) with cfm engines
It's during the pandemic!
Gonna miss it (not the pandemic)
Aie v2500-a5
It's an IAE2525-D5
