They did not seize your camera to establish if there was evidence to commit Terrorist activities so why search and walk away.Can you see how stupid this is. Yep, police policy is that anything terrorism related must be passed by the anti-terrorism department first. A constable on the street could stop a potential terrorist who is being watched and that could harm a major investigation. When they don't inform you they are filming, their filming is therefore covert. That requires explicit permission/instruction from a superior, otherwise it is illegal.
Last year Met police searched 383 people under Section 43 but only 27 of them were then arrested. That is just SEVEN PER CENT. Information about how many of those were then charged, subsequently taken to court and then convicted of a terrorism-related offence is not available because Section 43 is not related to a specific offence, it just gives police a power of search. (For example not all people charged with terrorism offences may have been initially searched under Section 43. And some of the 27 arrested may have been arrested for other offences e.g. drugs, weapons, etc etc)

Also using the fact you didn’t identify yourself as if it gives them grounds. No inference can be taken when someone refuses to identify themselves for lawful behaviour.

The way they were so blarsa regarding making a complaint "Well if you don't think this is right you can make a complaint afterwards" They should have compensation costs or a percentage of it come out of their wages. I fully agree, however I believe ALL the compensation costs should be derived from the offending officers wages. Yep, police policy is that anything terrorism related must be passed by the anti-terrorism department first. A constable on the street could stop a potential terrorist who is being watched and that could harm a major investigation. Or they could be stopping someone who is known to the police but known not to be a terrorist and they could land the police with a large legal bill.

Last year Met police searched 383 people under Section 43 but only 27 of them were then arrested. That is just SEVEN PER CENT. Information about how many of those were then charged, subsequently taken to court and then convicted of a terrorism-related offence is not available because Section 43 is not related to a specific offence, it just gives police a power of search. (For example not all people charged with terrorism offences may have been initially searched under Section 43. And some of the 27 arrested may have been arrested for other offences e.g. drugs, weapons, etc etc)
