I have a bread machine! It makes your typical bread fresh and healthy, but homemade bread is more rustic and satisfying. It's all the work you put into your food that makes it enjoyable.
I prefer to use a bread machine with two kneading mixers at the bottom. I have a west bend bread machine. They have two of those kneading circles in one loaf pan. Because of this the loaf pan is a bit bigger making the loaf it makes a more manageable size. I also don’t have any issues with flour not being mixed in because there are two mixers instead of one. Just a thought for anyone looking to purchase one. I really recommend getting a machine with two of those mixer/kneading circles in the bottom.
Ooh I didn’t know these machines existed with 2 mixers I can tell how it can be better than the regular one. Again, I’ve had this for many years I’m sure the newer models work way better!
When I first started making bread over 30 years ago now, I tried both ways. While the bread machine was nice to be able to walk away from and just come back to baked bread- we liked the one I did by hand better. Plus, I could do more loaves at the time. I have since bought a bread mixer. These 60 year old wrists do not knead as well as they used to. I let the mixer (kitchen-aid with a dough hook) do the kneading for me then rise- form into loaves ( i free hand the loaves) then rise in the bread pans and bake. I also have bread pans similar to yours that I bought from "The bread Beckers" at least 25-30 years ago. Still use them weekly and they are the BOMB!!!. I make a 3/4 fresh ground white wheat to 1/4 organic all purpose. With fresh wheat it can be heavier so the narrower pans allow for upward expansion better. Personally speaking good bread pans make a world of difference in the final product. Fresh bread- oh my gosh!! When the kids were all home we would bake 4-- 6 loaves at the time. The first ones out of the oven were literally inhaled with butter and honey while loaves still hot. Kids never seemed to care that bread cuts better when cooled- they just loved it fresh out of oven. Great video. Thank you for sharing, Have a blessed week.
@@misterincreds5341 ah yes I do find if I made bread outside of our bread machine I can surely make a lot more loaves especially with your larger family I understand the need for more loaves! However you can also use your mixer to mix then transfer in a bigger bowl and make a couple of loaves then just transfer it as well! We recently started making bagels with our machine and I am in love! No more store bought bagels!!
I just love making bread so much, kneading or doing stretch and folds and watching how it reacts to yeast. I would love to send you some of my sourdough starter Rosa. I love feeding my starter and using different flours to see how it reacts. Then using different amounts in recipes to see how long fermentation takes. I just love all things bread and watching people make bread so I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thanks family as always love being in your kitchen with you all . Much love ❤
Hi there Amy! That’s so cool you’re so passionate about your bread and your starter! I need to get back into sourdough I feel like it’s a life long commitment that I need to fit into our schedule haha but I too love watching people make bread as well!!
Hello friend! I agree, the bread machine recipe used in your specific bread machine has to be precise and calculated for your specific needs. If it isn't then it won't bake right! Does your Bosch mixer mix and bake the bread too?
@@thehaipath yes done both methods but ran into issues with getting the mixers out of the bottom of the bread once baked, it’s an odd shape and hard crust but still edible for sure
Ooh then it’s good timing we came out with this video! Maybe it will help you decide if you want it or not! I love the aspect of the bread machine being a dump and go for sure! Handmade is really not that hard either
Yes! Make sure you’re storing it in an air tight container. Many people have told me to use a bread bag or a container that lets the bread breathe. I have found it stays way softer when air does not get into it and you can probably store for a few days. Granted fresh homemade bread will mold or go bad a lot quicker than store bought but you can surely keep it at least 2-3 days
I had an Oster way back in the late70s-early8os...don't know what happened to that but, i made bread when in college when "bread" was all whole meal, and ended like a hockey puck,**uk....now, with my arthritic wrists...i make "No Knead" bread with my dutch ovens....I apologize Rosa for my rambling ways....much love to you and your lovely family...J
Haha hilarious! Wonder what happened with your hockey puck bread maybe it cooked too long! I love making our no knead bread, I’m going to try a no knead bread that sits and proofs for 8-12 hours in the fridge!
Do you ever make sourdough? It’s so good and it would be fun to do with the kiddos!!❤❤❤ I’ve been new to it the last few months, and it’s truly amazing.
Hey there Jonica! We sure have made sourdough! We've made einkorn sourdough in the past but we haven't in a long time. Trey said it is time to get back into sourdough making haha! I just remember it was a bit more work and having to keep the starter fed always. I'll have to get back into it and make a new schedule for the starter!
@@thehaipath I’ve learned that for me, using fresh ground flour (which I know you do) makes the starter way faster and way better!! Yes in order to yield a better load it would be wise to, but sometimes I fail to catch it at the right time after the kneading cycle when we get busy 😆
I have used both a bread machine and hand made. My preference is a mixer with a dough hook to knead the bread. If I am making sour dough, I make by hand. I have tried several bread machines and I am not a fan. I also do not like the hole in middle of bread.
Hello Bonnie! Ah yes I should try using the bread machine just for the mixing part! I mean it works just as great! You should try the sourdough in the mixer or machine too!
You need to not open the machine, just like not opening your regular oven while baking. Did you get a bread machine manual? They have a lot of litte helpful hints.
@@katiuszaYT thank you for that tip! I’ve not noticed any differences whether I open it or not, in fact opening it and helping the machine out with scooping flour from the corners yields a better loaf whereas if I were to just leave it to do its thing, when bread is baked it comes out with corners of stray unmixed flour 😬
Well...I bought a Cuisinart a couple of years ago. I really really wanted to like it but never got a good bread from any of the recipes. I like an artisan type bread and had the best results from no knead that overnights for 8 -24 hours. I really like "being one" with the bread...hahaha! So thumbs down on bread machine for me.
Hello MaryAnn! Yes so the bread machine recipes do require a little bit of adjusting to your environment I've found! Along with a recipe that will work with your own bread machine too. I do like our no knead bread as well and it's great you leave it overnight and then bake!
Have you made bread using both of these methods? Which one is your pick?

I use the bread machine to knead the bread and I put the kneaded and risen dough in bread pans and bake in the oven.
Exactly what we do!
I have considered doing that! Do you not like the shape of the bread machine? I figured since it can also bake may as well keep it in there 😆
@@thehaipath yes done both methods but ran into issues with getting the mixers out of the bottom of the bread once baked, it’s an odd shape and hard crust but still edible for sure
That is something I really don’t like, which is that kneading paddle gets left in there if we don’t catch it in time to take it out
@@thehaipath I really think the taste is better when it is baked in the oven.
