I have a 1978 Dynahoe-190.( Backhoe/ Loader) Please would Love for you and your Husband to meet me. It would be OK for you to use it as a Loader on a JOB if you need a Loader to load your Dump. I don't have a TRAILER to HAUL it. Its poundage is 19000. Just saying with your financial situation ( not having a lot) Would be willing to work with you and your husband. I'm in the local Auburn area. Close to you. Please, would love to see you make money. I'm retired so I can work with you anytime.

    I have about 35yrs in driving trucks, and several times I thought of going into business for myself, but I always changed my mind. Now with the cost of fuel and everything else involved in it, I'm glad I didn't. I wish you all the best though, and I hope you have great success with it, just don't forget to spend time with your family, it's important and the time goes by quick. That's one of the mistakes I made, chasing the almighty dollar was always what drove me and I missed out on a lot with my family. Cheers to you and yours and to a prosperous and safe new year.

      @Drew Murphy In Western Canada, where I'm people are cautious about spending money. Contractors have people canceling 1 million plus contracts. There's been a lot of work canceled. Gravel trucks were working 5 days a week, 8 to 12 hours a day.

      @Dauminique The Dump Truck Driver Diesel fuel here is up to 7 dollars a gallon. In us dollars, it's 5 dollars per US gallon. Our rates are 140 dollars (102.00 us) per hour plus fuel charges. That is for a straight truck (tandem). Tires are a killer recaps are 450 each for 11R24.5 425 floats are 1200 each. It was 5 grand for 4 drive tires and 2 steers for one of our trucks. My truck needs 8 new drives. There isn't enough work for the truck to justify spending 4 grand plus.

    I really feel great how you have a great approach on how you explain things from the Fuller 18 amongst other things.
    I got a driving assessment tomorrow but I ain't driven a fuller 18 for 1 year, and I asked specifically for an 18 speed Peterbilt because of the long roads heading north in Canada, because I feel the older trucks can take the punishment.

My brother runs a " Grab Lorry " over here , he has been in business with the lorry for maybe 11 years now. A smaller lorry to yours, his is just a 6 wheeler , carries maybe 10 tonnes or so I think. He is always busy with a lot of regular clients as well as a few " one off " jobs, but also does have some big repair bills from time to time and of course big fuel costs over here of approaching $ 9.5 to $10 a UK gallon do not help, short trips he can be as low as 9 to 10 mpg ! . Keep up the good work and look forward to your videos next year

    You also need a good accountant. Proud of ya, this is all good advice. Trucking is a tricky business, if you have a great truck and no demand you are not going to survive, the payments keep coming. If you have a ton of work lined up but have a shabby truck, you aren't going to keep up very long due to downtime. Once you have a good vehicle and good freight, that's just the beginning.

    I started with a dump and pup in 1984. Have 5 end dumps now. And 20 pieces of equipment. You don't need an LLC, I'm a sole proprietorship. Get a 2 yard wheel loader and a backhoe with landscaping blade. That way you can load yourself on jobs and spread what you haul. Say a contractor has 5000 yes extra dirt, you show up with your loader. Then find landowner who needs the dirt and you spread it. Are excavation business now does 5 times what trucks do.

      Too much liability as a sole proprietor. If it’s working for you then great. I just won’t risk what I’ve built for my family for less paperwork. I also don’t file taxes as an LLC, I file as an S corp.

    • @Peterbilt359
      @Peterbilt359 Рік тому

      @@DauminiqueTheDumpTruckDriver I use to be a corp. you still have liability. If you run over a school bus they will come after you personally. I carry general liability at 2 mil. And umbrella at 5 mil. Let’s say my truck catches on fire and burns an apartment building down your insurance won’t cover it all. They aren’t going to let you keep a million dollar home because you don’t have enough coverage. I’ve been sued and they will go around the corp shield and come after you personally.

    Hey “D”, I don’t mind watching your truck get loaded and you do a few runs. My love is listening to that diesel rumble. Really a couple more trips is good for me. I LOVED RUNNING MY COUSINS DUMP AND LOADER. Problem was he sat home drinking coffee all day long while he paid me $2.50 an hour. Mid 70’s. So I left went to work at the submarine navy yard, making $6.75 an hour. My costs to driving to the yard and back after sometimes 2 shifts was astronomical. I should of just made my cousin to pay me $6.00 an hour. He got paid huge money for my work. I also maintained his 1965 dumps. Olddddd dumps. Keep it rolling lady. Haven’t watched for a few months, my wife is battling cancer so we watch reg tv. It’s all good! 🙂

    Though not a trucking business, the lessons I learned with my own business are similar to yours. I was lucky enough to be surrounded in life by friends and family who had found success and they gave great advice along the way, but many lessons can't be taught or told... they have to be learned first hand. Honestly what you consider mistakes (with the exception of the bank you chose) sound like the product of bad timing rather than bad decisions. And sometimes in life and business, you have to take bold or risky steps to yield long term gain. You can't win if you don't enter the race. Seems to me your work ethic and moxie will see you through.

    Start a transport business never been easy.
    You are so lucky your government allows you to drive vehicles this age. Here in Norway most of companies require euro 6 emissions, somewhere euro 5. But more emissions is mean more expensive toll a many trucks even more fuel. I was pushed 3 years ago to replce my 4 years truck euro5 to euro 6. I was devastating because a new trucks are crazy expensive. This time after fuel prices hit top i am quite gladd because after all is cheaper to run a new vehicle.

    Mistakes? How about less than optimal decisions. But I'm thinking most of your decisions were very good as you have been successful in a difficult time. Small business success stories are not as plentiful as the alternative. If one holds up business until things are perfect, you would still be waiting to get the business rolling. Good judgement and a good work ethic go a long ways.

    What you guys did seams very scary, it’s impressive that you have pulled it off. I am wondering about your last piece of advise about money in the bank, if you borrowed fir the truck money how could you have worked out having more capital on hand? Do you mean you should have waited and worked longer for someone else?

    Very fascinating video! The bank thing is interesting, becuse for years and years ive used local credit unions - even before i got my license. Question: have you always Driven a Transfer truck? If so, do you prefer it over a Bottom Dump or a Regular Super?? Are there advantages of driving a Transfer compared to the other too?? Just curious... Have a good Holiday and keep on Truckin' !!
