Heroic effort from Cutler, making the most of what he's got to barely fend off the new guy with the genetic advantage. So I give props to Cutler. And props to Phill too. IMO people have been too hard on Phil re. the bubble gut in since '17. Seems unfair that he brought up most of the weaknesses here in '10 (adding back thickness, more legs) only to get busted for the gut when he added size. Phil does need the humility to accept the the gut is an issue that needs attention. E.g., scale back insulin use and look into gut bacteria (steroids really screw with gut bacteria).
Man, Franky speaking I hate comments like "liked before watching" but that's exactly what I did this time. Thanks for pumping out those videos, much appreciated
Great comparison. I kind of still like jay in the side tri more. I think he took this year pretty easily. Phil just didn’t have the size and polish he’d bring next year.
You really have to watch the video to get a true idea of the size difference. Jay had a solid 20-30lbs on him this year and when they move you can get a sense of the true scale. When Phil came in 10lbs heavier the next year with as good of condition, and Jay with an injured bicep, he really closed the door.
If I were judging I would give the back double, and mm to Phil. Jay takes both side poses, the rear lat, and the rest of the front poses, but it is somewhat close in the side chest. For me its 6/8 in favor of Jay. Jay wins convincingly Phil was still just too small and not yet ready to beat Jay
To be honest Jay was very humble and when he told phil "you are the next big thing" it made me feel like if he cares for Phil and he actually never kept screaming at his opponents. He actually met Victor martinez after the 2007 olympia and told him that the olympia was controversial but it is what it is
If there is a tie anyday between Jay and someone else, I will always give Jay a point because of his sportsmanship and for being a great representative of the sport. It's very rare specially now a days.
If you mean a tie in a show, then the point(s) you want to give to Jay has nothing to do with a actuall show. Sportmanship and being a good representative (allthought I agree with you Jay is) don't give you shows neither let you win them

Honestly i really do think phil takes the back lat spread, i know jays width is superior but phil is so detailed theres a whole section of the back that phil has that jay doesnt. Phil should have potentially 10 sandoes (2008, 2010, 2018)

Thanks, yeah I would've included them but wanted to keep it more focussed and the runtime down. In short I would've had Dexter in 3rd ahead of Branch easily. He beats him in most poses.
Phil beat him pretty clearly here. It was close overall, but Phil's superior collection of parts and detail gave him almost every pose. In areas where Jay had the slight detail edge...Phil countered with markedly better aesthetics every time.

Great one, Tom! Super good analysis. I have Jay winning this pretty decisively. I think Phil is great but he just didn’t have the stuff this year. Jay was out massing Phil handily is most shots, making the overall decision pretty easy for me.
Jay's quads in 2010 were even better than on 09. Phil was an orange if Jay was an apple though, displaying exactly what Jay didn't - 3D roundness especially in the triceps, brachioradialis and lower lats. I'm okay with the fact Jay Phil didn't win before 11.
Let us just say that when Phil started his reign he started the conditioning revolution while ronnie started the size competition but he kept exceptional conditioning but jay in 2006 and 7 he played the size game and left his conditioning at home

This is to prevent people from comparing and passing on comments demeaning olympia judgement which has been controversial for 3/4th of the events in the last 50 yrs. Idk man, i know it was not ur call on the video, but the more i actually see Dexter's physique i find it more impressive.. he is not the mass monster, but he is so well rounded and balanced.. i would have given him most of the poses.. notably that front double bi looked nasty
Think about it. It's no coincidence they never showed them together. It's ALWAYS why the cameras at the Olympia continuously span across the stage instead of solely focusing on the competitors.
The lighting actually wasn't too bad that year for a change. Shame about the video and backdrop though. Still 33% is pretty good for an Olympia. Usually all three are shithouse.
the reason Phil looks taller is because he was never inline on stage with the other bbuilders, always took a foot closer towards the judges to make himself look bigger
this is like the Clarida vs Elgargni type of battle. Not a 49-51 type of shit, its a legit 50-50. The only problem with them is that they both entered the same show
Jay won that year because he was better , but he knew it was just about a matter of time . That is why 2011 Phil was one of the greatest physiques to ever step foot on stage. Had Phil won in 2010 his era wouldn't have been as dominant as we know today.
Do you know Nick's strength and power. You guys are the true bodybuilding judges. Not like fake ufc judges always rigging matches in Las vegas o.o . Did you do dexter jason recent show compared 2010? Which physique was better
Most of these concepts in bodybuilding (hardness, 3d look, density, etc) don't have a true definition. But trying to answer your question, (BRO SCIENCE ALERT) when a muscle can't grow any more in terms of size, it starts growing on top of itself creating a signature texture, like what you see in older competitors. Some people aren't able to achieve this, though, especially bigger bodybuilders.
I love Jay, but I kept thinking the Olympia he won weren't 100% deserved (2007, 2010...). It's like he kinda lost his edge after Ronnie's reign, except 09
My analysis of the poses: FDB - I give it to Phil. Something I've never seen anyone point out is how assymetrical Cutler's arms were later on in his career. His left arm has a much, much bigger muscle belly, and his right arm looks atrophied in the bicep and forearm by comparison. It looks kind of like an injury or muscle tear, and combine that with the width of his waist, I give this to Phil handily. FLS - Nothing to say. Jay wins easily. SC - I agree with you here. Phil's hamstrings from the side are some of the best ever, and Jay's are actually weak from this angle. Jay's width is excellent, but Phil has better separation across his entire body for the most part. I give it to Phil because of the hamstrings since everything else is tit for tat. BDB - Phil is just too dens, and his V-taper is proportionally better given how much thinner his waist is from the back. Of course Jay's absolute width is extraordinary, and he does have some impressive body parts. Looking at the whole picture, however, and I gotta say Phil's better. BLS - Yeah, absolute width is very important here, and I gotta go with Jay because of that. ST - To me, Phil Heath is damn near unbeatable here. His chest is narrow from the front, but here that's a nonfactor, and the fullness he has there is remarkable. His shoulders are wider and more striated than Jay's, and his forearm gives Phil's entire arm a density that Cutler lacks. Combine that with Phil's fuller and more striated tricep, and Phil wins by a landslide imo. Jay's abs are still very impressive here though. MM - Phil is just so full, and his narrow frame lets him saturate the pose like only Flex Wheeler and Kevin Levrone ever have. I give it to Phil easily. AT - Yeah, I give it to Jay. I don't like how wide his waist is or how his obliques spill over in the pose, but the legs and ab definition are gnarly as it gets. So that leaves 5-3 in Phil's favor. I don't think the judges properly weighed Phil's symmetry and proportions in comparison to Jay's, and they were focusing too much on raw frame size and general mass. In most shots, Phil's looks like he's carrying as much muscle because of how cleanly his muscles separate, and they don't look blurry or washed out like Jay's While Jay's width and a few excellent body parts help keep him in the race, I think Phil is the overall better bodybuilder this year. I don't think it's a robbery at all, however, and Jay got beat pretty handily next year with the rear lat spread switching over to Phil, making his win relatively dominant. Cool comparison video.
Jay as the reigning champ isn't knocked out here. Yeah it's close but IMO not close enough here with Phil to take the Sandow away from Jay. That said 2011 we all know it was a full on knock out by Phil. Zero debate!!
I think jay won in the most muscular pose the only think phile got over jay in that pose is the arm and jay was not so behind Jay is bigger wider more condition in the front and the legs is superior even in that shot
I always wondered about this one... i saw pics and shit and wondered *wasn't Phil kinda screwed* but footage was crap and nobody was talking about it so i figure i was probably missing something
Cant say i agree with tbe FDB. Phil imo dooominates the pose basically. Way better detail and separation in the arms which also seem to be bigger than Cutlers plus phils forearms and tricep sweep And lower inserted lats that seem to flsre out as much So really Jay wins in the legs only. Bit more than phil wins in the upper body But. I value personally the upper body way more than the lower. Id give jay the pose if phil had tiny undetailed legs but his are fairly impressive too as well as possibly bigger in pure size than jays Plus its the front double "bicep"
Jay's sportsmanship conduct is just unrivaled. He's a humble guy.

this is like the Clarida vs Elgargni type of battle.
Maybe, maybe not. He would have been more confident about his physique and not add as much mass wich caused the distention.
I think if Phil came back to the Mr. Olympis, I think he could reclaim the title, as long as his mid section is tight enough.
Phil was Fuller but all the time my eyes went directly to Branch Warren. He was so granny, freaky, vascular with complete balanced physique 👌
Phil all the day. SO MUCH quality muscle and amazing shape. Jay is great guy but he looks so ugly near to Phil Heath!!
Do you know Nick's strength and power. You guys are the true bodybuilding judges. Not like fake ufc judges always rigging matches in Las vegas o.o . Did you do dexter jason recent show compared 2010? Which physique was better
Could you do a video explaining what muscle maturity looks like?
Most of these concepts in bodybuilding (hardness, 3d look, density, etc) don't have a true definition. But trying to answer your question, (BRO SCIENCE ALERT) when a muscle can't grow any more in terms of size, it starts growing on top of itself creating a signature texture, like what you see in older competitors. Some people aren't able to achieve this, though, especially bigger bodybuilders.
Tomn8er!
I love Jay, but I kept thinking the Olympia he won weren't 100% deserved (2007, 2010...).
It's like he kinda lost his edge after Ronnie's reign, except 09
I agree about 2007 but I think in 2010 he brought great conditioning
2010 Jay deserved, and in my opinion 2001 deserved
Only thing questionable is 07. Rest are well deserved smhhh
Like come on Jay stomach looks so bad this kinda physique would never win Olympia in this day of age for sure
Now am giving you a credit 👍👍👍👍👍
My analysis of the poses:
FDB - I give it to Phil.
Side tricep is just the best pose.
@tomn8er the full Mr. Olympia 2010 is available on Vimeo bro.
Jay is a better human being than Phil.. a better ambassador and contributor towards the sport.
Jay Cutler 100% and he is also one of the classiest bodybuilding sportsman ever.
Phil easily nailed it. No contest.
Jay as the reigning champ isn't knocked out here. Yeah it's close but IMO not close enough here with Phil to take the Sandow away from Jay. That said 2011 we all know it was a full on knock out by Phil. Zero debate!!
I think jay won in the most muscular pose
the only think phile got over jay in that pose is the arm and jay was not so behind
Jay is bigger wider more condition in the front and the legs is superior even in that shot
After watching this comparison I think Branch deserved to win Mr o
Just no XD
Branch was so out of place up there next to Jay and Phil. Jay was a monster.
0:35 classic Phil right there, stepping over the line
I thought branch should have finished 2nd that year with Phil behind him. He looked great and was the best conditioned, by far, in the show.
Conditionning isn't everything. Phil destroys him in the back and arms. Its like comparing an amateur to a pro
I always wondered about this one... i saw pics and shit and wondered *wasn't Phil kinda screwed* but footage was crap and nobody was talking about it so i figure i was probably missing something
Never liked Jay`s physics. Very wide torso.
Yep, and those short stubby legs.
5:32 I see what you did there 😂
I think Dexter Jackson won the ab and thigh there.
Are you gonna maybe make any videos about the late Luke Sandoe?
You should do a best Christmas tree list
Dex should’ve been 3rd
Cant say i agree with tbe FDB. Phil imo dooominates the pose basically. Way better detail and separation in the arms which also seem to be bigger than Cutlers plus phils forearms and tricep sweep
And lower inserted lats that seem to flsre out as much
So really Jay wins in the legs only. Bit more than phil wins in the upper body
But. I value personally the upper body way more than the lower. Id give jay the pose if phil had tiny undetailed legs but his are fairly impressive too as well as possibly bigger in pure size than jays
Plus its the front double "bicep"
Not saying he should’ve won, but branch looked nasty that year. So dense
Phil got robbed that night
they have different colored trunks in some of these shots. is that a prejudging vs finals thing?
yes
@@Tomn8er thanks for clarifying
It’s decided. Between Jay and Phil, Dexter takes it.
I have a good left side relaxed, but my right side looks like crap. I can't even flex the right side obliques correctly.
What happened to these guys friendship? they went from friends and training partners, to nothing at all
I think it kinda soured after Phil beat Jay in 2011. He mentioned that in an interview
Please revisit Mr Olympia 2009 😁
This show I had
Phil 1st
Jay 2nd
Dexter 3rd
It was real close between Phil and Jay tho
