Stirring your resin with wooden sticks adds more bubbles due to the porosity of wood. Use a plastic or metal stick. 🤗

Thanks, great advice! I think the wooden sticks come in the pack along with the plastic pots but I've had great results using silicone and it's great you can reuse them too.

I think using a magnet with metal bits could give an interesting effect with sugar and salt if you make your own flake salt or repeat it and make other crystal shapes then place magnets while setting for effect

My question is naturally when put against water or a cleaning solvent the rock salt will melt away and create a missing pocket in reverse. I would love for you to wash these off with a bit of hot water and see what happens. This is also the technic used to give concrete streets a texture, when finishing the concrete they pour big rock salt over the top and let it dry. When it drys they simply use a water hose to wash the rock salt away. If you don't seal it I beat that would happen, which is what I thought you would do with it.:) Really cool btw!

      Sian says:
'Yes! I have tried this actually :) In this project I pushed the salt right under the resin so it's completely encapsulated and therefore the resin has sealed the salt in. If you let the resin cure a bit you can push the salt onto the surface to create texture and then dissolve the salt in hot water. I found that when I dissolved the salt the top surface was quite rough and jagged so I think I would need to sand it down a bit?! It needed refining but with a bit of experimenting I think it would look great.'

You can use uv resin to fill them in. It’s easier to fix little imperfections with. I use a small paint brush to apply it evenly.

Online doing resin or anything I haven't been doing well myself a couple years but it definitely helps to scrape the edges of your pot that you're mixing in whether it's the color or alcohol ink so it could be Mica powder alcohol ink or just a pigment paint it helps to scrape the sides a bit which I'm sure you probably already know but I didn't pay attention to that very much when I first started out even up until recently I always just mix it up you know the best I could and it always be like a ring of it right around the pot the mixing pot and a friend of mine that does it and has been doing it for quite some time she's like if you scrape the edges really good you'll get more of it in there you won't need to use as much Mica powder because people always seem to forget to scrape the edges and I just thought I'd pass that tidbit along

Really informative! Have you guys looked at flowers in resin? Like small enough for a pendant i.e. clover or perhaps petals? Or even small leaves?
