Where I live in coastal BC, intermediate level wildlife jobs generally are around 60-75k CAD for a bachelors and 5 years experience or masters and 2 years experience, for private industry or government. PhD is harder as I rarely see those positions but is generally pretty similar, 75k or so but occasionally into the six figures with 10+ years experience. But entry level pay is so awful, minimum wage usually or around 45k max. And rents are 1800-2300 for apartments :( it’s definitely tough out there starting out.
I love your channel! I'm a returning student, previously did AS Business, and now I'm doing Wildlife Bio-possibly Zoology- DVM specializing in Pathology. My background is Vet tech so I know I love it already. I'll have to see how I feel about being in school for that long in my mid 30's (turning 30 in 2 months ahhh). Anyway I love your informative channel. I feel lile it's geared more towards adults whereas other ones are more for highschool students who are undecided about the wildlife bio major. In your experience have you seen or worked with any wildlife bio's who also do pathology and work outside of a typical lab setting? Looking forward to more of your videos!
Thank you! Grad school is not like undergrad. It's more like a job. You take courses, but not that many and they are mostly discussion or project-based. I graduated when I was 29 and I was one of the younger ones in my department so don't let age hold you back. I am not as familiar with pathology and where they work, but I am pretty sure it is competitive - at least if you are trying to be a wildlife vet. The only person I know is Sharon Deem. She might be more helpful. Or just try searching the job boards or organizations you want to work for and see what you come up with. www.stlzoo.org/conservation/institute-for-conservation-medicine/staff-bios/sharon-deem-dvm-phd-dipl-aczm
@@FancyScientist Yeah, I hear you. I get annoyed when weird things show up on my videos (for my other UA-cam account datasciencing). For me it's usually the wind for my outside videos. 🤷♂️
Mam I am from india and I am not able to understand your fast and perfect speaking.I have understood only 60 % of what you are saying.so,please tell me that how much you make in this job?
Hello! I am sorry for talking fast. In my last job, I made $40,000 USD, but that job was not permanent. The salaries of the jobs that I was competitive for were around $50 - 55,000.
It's definitely possible, but I don't know anything about how likely it is or if jobs will sponsor a work visa. I think your best bet is academia (being a professor at a university), but the political climate in the US right now is not friendly for immigrants, so you may have a difficult time until the administration changes.
Check out Kristina Lynn's channel too. She has lots of good videos about money and she has a different background and type of position than me. It's good to get lots of different perspectives. Here's one: ua-cam.com/video/nEGziq2HWBE/v-deo.html
In general, I would say yes, especially when you have a lot of experience. I saw jobs in the 100K+ range. The jobs I applied to were almost all state government although different forms (e.g., zoo, museum). Where I live, there were not many federal positions that I was qualified to apply for. They were either below my grade or above.

this was helpful for thinking about going into this career realistically, thanks 😌💕
I'm glad. I don't think enough people talk about the financial realities of this career, and it's a real concern that people need to think about.
Great video. Thanks for talking about this subject.
Thank you. I was annoyed by the autofocus, but I guess it was the time of day.

I'm glad you found it helpful. Let me know if there's anything you would like me to cover.

I want to work as ecologist in USA , is that possible for international applicant ? will these jobs sponsor work visa.?
