Buddy Bruce's younger brother Bob lived down the street from me. Bob said when they were growing up during the depression that their dad had formed a family band to earn some extra money. Bob said their dad taught them all the instruments they knew. Buddy Bruce's birth name was Roscoe Leonard Stoops. Bud passed away in Tulsa in 2014. My neighbor Bob passed away in 2018 here in Springfield, MO where he lived all his life (and where Bud grew up). Bud's the guitarist next to the bass.
I saw this movie back in 1962 when I was a kid. I still fondly recall opening credits showing couples riding Lambretta scooters swaying on the beat of this timeless music. Wow golden age of cinema of bygone days.
Every note of that song from the Drums to the Bass to the Guitars and Sax is a gem. Fun Fact: This is the B side of their first record. They spent about 2 hours and 56 minutes recording the A side and threw this together on a break and recorded it in less than 4 minutes in one take for the B side as a throwaway song. Once this started to get played it overtook the A side "Train to Nowhere"which was also a hit.
My parents have both passed and I was reading a letter my mom had written dad when he was in the military. They wrote each other everyday. I’ve heard this song plenty of times but wanted to hear a 1958 version of it. Apparently mom had gone to a party on Saturday night and Tequila was played at it. Here is what she had to say about it. “Have you heard the song Tequila? Saturday that record was being played all of the time. They would play it twice in a row. Put it on a fast and slow speed. Play it right in the middle of another song. Or playing it at the same time another record was playing. It was crazy. They did it all day and even real late at night. “
what an excellent reply! I had to check all those versions out, I bet they were losing their minds at that party. I need to do some more experimenting with two songs played at the same time. brilliant!! thanks for sharing darlar
All we need is Pee Wee doing his dance on the bar. It was a new re-birth for the Champs with royalties probably better than when it originally came out. Instrumentals like this, as well as other music from the 50s, will never be matched again. It's been a slow death ever since disco in the 70s.
@@evilmothericebearkillerbir6016 The guy who wrote it was Danny Flores. He signed away royalties from Tequila to get out of the Champs. He didn't see any royalties till decades later (and then only from Europe.) Flores and Tequila had a similar fate to fellow Los Angelino, Richard Berry and his hit, Louie, Louie.
October 1964 dancing at a regional culture club in Bucharest. Same point orchestra took a break and closed the stage curtains. Minute later a guy with a saxophone showed up in front of curtains, raised his hand asking for attention. Said he just learned a new melody and wants to try it on us. The murmur of some 250 voices slowly turned down and the guy started. He played for us 'Tequila". When he finished there was not a sound to be heard,. Then a loud voice asked "Bis !!!" And instantly 250 voices at unison called out same Bis, Bis, Bis. Sax player raised his hand for quiet. This time he sang better and louder. When he finished we all went crazy. We were all yelling Tequila. A word most of us heard the first time and had no idea what it meant. Management and security burst in. They tried to quiet us. No way until the sax player raised his hand and said OK, one more time. That was so long ago and in another world. I still get goose bumps when I hear this song. Thanks for posting !!!
