Killer track! Love the sax lines and the single note guitar lines. Meanwhile the rhythm guitarist and drummer are strumming and pounding out a killer beat. The bassist is laying down a sweet groove as well. TEQUILA!
I was a child when listened this marvellous piece. Now, even after 60 years my mind still dances to this tune although the body is cooperating. Still evergreen!
Tequila has that effect on you , a few shots later and this is what you hear over and over again . Goes well with a sandy beach , lots of sun , good crowd and a BBQ !
October 1964 dancing at a regional culture club in Bucharest. Same point orchestra took a break and closed the stage curtains. Minute later a guy with a saxophone showed up in front of curtains, raised his hand asking for attention. Said he just learned a new melody and wants to try it on us. The murmur of some 250 voices slowly turned down and the guy started. He played for us 'Tequila". When he finished there was not a sound to be heard,. Then a loud voice asked "Bis !!!" And instantly 250 voices at unison called out same Bis, Bis, Bis. Sax player raised his hand for quiet. This time he sang better and louder. When he finished we all went crazy. We were all yelling Tequila. A word most of us heard the first time and had no idea what it meant. Management and security burst in. They tried to quiet us. No way until the sax player raised his hand and said OK, one more time. That was so long ago and in another world. I still get goose bumps when I hear this song. Thanks for posting !!!
I have been trying since 1958 and now in 2023 after all these years of hard work and dedication, I finally memorized the lyrics of this iconic song. TEQUILA! #NeverGiveUp #DontStopBelieving

I saw this movie back in 1962 when I was a kid. I still fondly recall opening credits showing couples riding Lambretta scooters swaying on the beat of this timeless music. Wow golden age of cinema of bygone days.
This is end of April 2023 and this marvellously melodious, magnificently memorable & magically momentous melody continues to be exceedingly popular even today. ❤❤
Every note of that song from the Drums to the Bass to the Guitars and Sax is a gem. Fun Fact: This is the B side of their first record. They spent about 2 hours and 56 minutes recording the A side and threw this together on a break and recorded it in less than 4 minutes in one take for the B side as a throwaway song. Once this started to get played it overtook the A side "Train to Nowhere"which was also a hit.
When my mom lived in Santa Paula, California, her neighbor was Daniel Flores, the saxophone player for The Champs. After my mom moved to Sanger and married my dad, Daniel Flores came over the house and brought a friend with him. His friend, Mike Love, of The Beach Boys.
Buddy Bruce's younger brother Bob lived down the street from me. Bob said when they were growing up during the depression that their dad had formed a family band to earn some extra money. Bob said their dad taught them all the instruments they knew. Buddy Bruce's birth name was Roscoe Leonard Stoops. Bud passed away in Tulsa in 2014. My neighbor Bob passed away in 2018 here in Springfield, MO where he lived all his life (and where Bud grew up). Bud's the guitarist next to the bass.
This tune inspired a song from the Hindi movie Lootera made in 1964. The song is “Raat se kaho rukey jaraa” sung by the legendary Lata Mangeshkar under the music directors Lakshmikant-Pyarelal duo. They have done a great justice to the original 🙏
The hindi crapped up version of the famous dance musical Tequila was "Pappiya Jhappiya Pale Hum" from the 1996 year released Bollywood film Haqiqat (which was released exactly 3 decades after after this black and white track). The song was again copied in Hindi movie Bala (the baldness theme comedy film released in 2019) where the cover song was also titled Tequila
I have never seen this particular clip before. Of course I’m a big fan of this song. And also, of course, I can’t ever hear it without seeing Pee-Wee Herman doing the big shoe dance in my head.
