It was because in some way he looked a bit older than he was. Creating rock and roll in Chester he seemed to be an outsider. People looked at Memphis and Chicago.
I don't think he doesn't! Here in Russia Bill Haley is the icon of r'n'r. If you ask for rnr song, they play Rock Around The Clock. Not Elvis, not Chuck, not Buddy or Carl or Jerry Lee or Gene or Eddy. They play Rock-Clock. Cheers!
Bill Haley was the next logical step from Bob Wills. You can hear the shades of Chuck Berry and Bill Haley in some of those 40s Bob Wills transcriptions. Especially in the guitar of Junior Barnard. Tommy Duncan and Bob Wills were very "black" in their styling as well. Bill Haley cut his teeth on that stuff, and with his group it's basically The Texas Playboys without the fiddles, with a little more Louis Jordan influence.
Poor quality of music, lack of talent and no sense of arranging and producing music. We see a bunch of tramps shouting into the microphone while jumping up and down.
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From a mad keen 74yo Aussie fan. Had the honor to see Bill Haley & The Comets live in Melbourne,Australia in the late 50's ( i think ) & they were fantastic.

Unless it can be specifically traced to one thing or a country of origin then its really a mix of styles and influences Ala the African banjo in country, Western swing/country mixing with the blues to form R&R along European harmonies/song structures, African call/response and the invention of the electric guitar etc. The "blues" are basically the pentatonic scale with an added "blue" note. It's been used before but not quite in the "blues" style. it goes on an on as inventions aren't quite as cut and dry as you might think.
@@Dios67 sure but Bill Haley and his comets are generally considered the first to put all the elements of rock and roll together. The jazz, blues, country and swing influence all can be found in their music
This is the REAL unplugged, because there is literally not a thing that can be plugged, The fact that there is no live mixing, they blend the music with coordination and dynamically controlled, which is So cool. Compare them with the recent artist that claim to perform unplugged with In ear monitor and guitar amped

I love Bill Haley & The Comets. I saw them, sans Haley, in Houston, Texas in 1972. This is a good performance.... but I like The Champs original version better. 1950s RocknRoll FOREVER!!🎸
From just across a stone from my hometown and a pebble throw from the house of George Thorogood..the Father of Rock n Roll..Mister..Bill...Hayley and His Comets ladies n gentleman!!!!
Bill was actually more interested in what was called Country Western at the time. He soon learned that he was more liked for the Rock N Roll he played occasionally. That led him into what I feel was the greatest performances he ever gave. Bill was in his early 30's when Rock n Roll was started and he was quite older, making hit after hit, when most others were quite younger than him. A True Rock n Roll great by any standard.
Nice, but it ain't vintage Haley. I was there; I know what excited us; it was the beat, never heard before, e.g Rip It Up, Rock Around The Clock, Hot Dog Buddy Buddy etc...a New Pop Age was born. It's difficult to explain to young people today, the sheer impact that Bill Haley had. One song, Rockin' Through The Rye has The Beat, a pulsating , throbbing, nay exciting sound we had never heard before. Suddenly crooners, who ruled the roost then, were history overnight, at least for us teenagers, ( who had, also overnight, just been invented!). Cinema's across the UK showed Haley's film, Rock Around The Clock, and teens sprang from their seat, gyrating in the aisles; you had to see it to believe the hysteria created by fabulous Bill Haley and the Comets, inventor of The Teenager and High Priest of the Rock and Roll Revolution! The sax guy is Rudy Pompilli, who spent have his time on stage lying on his back!
thanks for posting this rare live clip... i just wish the Comets had an instrumental hit on the scale of Tequila, i like their version better than the Champs.
Well Bill was a bit mean to his fellow band mates concerning money, but man did he play his part in creating what we know as Rock N Roll. The first crossover white rocker for sure.

Their can be many Princes, but was only ever one 'KIng of Rock'n'Roll', and this is him. Bill Haley ! ! !
I love Bill, but I’d call him the father of rock and roll.
Bill is the father, Elvis is the king and the God is Jerry Lee !
How can you exclude Little Richard ? He was the one who started it all.
I always find it hard to distinguish between some jazz tunes , bee bop and this type of rock n roll. Whatever you call it, this music is crazy man..
Rudy Pompelli is an under rated saxophone player and this group did a good job on the song I never knew until now they did this song
Bill Haley started playing Rock and Roll in the early fifties and was very popular. He is not given as much credit and he should have had.
So true
It was because in some way he looked a bit older than he was. Creating rock and roll in Chester he seemed to be an outsider. People looked at Memphis and Chicago.
