You have a good Installation overall. The only thing I would do differently is replace the zip tyes with black tape on the cabling down the pole. The reason is the zip tyes can damage the outer jacket of the cabling over time. Just FYI.
Actually, no ground wire. If I add one it will be visible to lightning. Right now its invisible. It has been up for years without an issue. It has been an on going experiment that seems to working.
Just getting into radio... good video. Received my GMRS license this past week. Ordered Midland MXT115, and a Wouxun KG-805G after watching 10 thousand reviews. What do you think of those choices for starters?
@@TELEVISIONARCHIVES I agree. I still toss the Midland MXT 275 into my truck. It's cheap, and works, a d stays out of the way. Wouxun is the king of quality, however, I wish they'd make a small radio that tucks away like Midland does. I have owned the monster KG 1000G too. Big AF.
I like these antenna installation videos, but I have to ask. Why is grounding not necessary? Why are you not making sure you have 10ft clearance from power lines?
Looks great ! Don't know what coax you have. I went with N connector on coax . Depending on install I use LMR or Helix type cable for UHF . very low loss. I got RG400 coax in my mobile setup for UHF. you can use UV rated heat shrink to seal coax. I add dielectric grease on outside before heat shrink . Lots of snow ice hear. Also lots of grounding because of static build up from snow . locally my fire and police use 460Mhz and 453 Mhz. I found that commercial UHF antenna tune just fine for GMRS . 73s
I like your installation video, I’m an avid gmrs and ham radio user, if I become a member of your website could I gain access to your repeater system with membership?
@@larryhaney6608 mine is actually outperforming my friends $200 antenna. The tram antenna that was like $100 is not as good as the Ed Fung in my area anyway
I thought,.....(although I may have misunderstood), that the antenna height limit was 20 feet high, or less. If I had to guess, I'd say this is at least 30 to 40 feet high. How are you getting by the rule like that??
How does this work on a duplex GMRS Repeater setup I'm looking for a good high gain antenna I was thinking I may need an 2 or 4element antenna but figured I'd ask around first
Funny you should ask. Not grounded at all. My thought process if its grounded (I completed the circuit) and it would be visible to a lightning strike. Been up there for years, never been hit. Its an experiment I've been working on. Thanks for the question.
You need to ground it. It isn't a matter of if, but when. When it happens you need to divert as much fault current as possible to the ground. There is no such thing as insulating against lightning, only diverting it.
Flawless audio dubbing. Didn't notice it at all.
Thanks, takes some skill to do it that badly..
2 kids later i also " could not find my rubber " lol

I didn't tighten them, however tape will crack and become brittle over time. Interesting info though
Todays China zip ties are junk, lucky to last a year without falling off, get Scotch 44 tape. Mine has been on for over 20 years without a failure..
Good job.. 2 comments. Always tape going UP start at coax like your shingles, never top down. And 2- where's the ground wire?

That antenna and mast are scary close to your electric lines. I hope you never get high wind.
Do you need to ground that antenna or the aluminum extension?

I know you posted a long time ago but I love the Wouxun. I would still get that over the Midland Radios.

Hello did you check the SWR

He cant find his rubber! Lol 😆
Cute
He does not even live in a Condomminium 🤪😂
What and where can I get the gmrs antenna?
Your Hustler GMRS antenna. Were you able to get a good match on it? I cannot get mine much less than 2:1.
thanks Sr nice job 73 from kb2uew
I use the same antenna on my GMRS repeater.
Great antenna!
Nice view would work nice around the neighborhood area for repeater and talk on some 5 watt HTs.
That is what it is used for. However, my ERP is around 480 watts. 48 Watts in. 50W is the limit. I run a repeater on the Island
Was there a problem with the Ed Fong ?
That's a good question because I had better luck with the Ed Fong
@@centralfloridagmrs I have 2 Ed Fongs up in the air for 4 years now one for GMRS and one for ham . Both are still working like new

20' above the top of the structure its mounted on. Could be a 500' tower, you could still go up 20'

Works awesome. Any Antenna would work. I recommend the COMET-NCG CA-712EFC. newer and taller. and more reach. I have since changed it to that.
Sweet
Fun stuff.
Witch antenna commet like these do you recommend for GMRS home base
Witch = Which to the rest of the world.🤣🥴
I am blind, and looking for a radio, that will speak all of its prompts any suggestions? I am totally blind, and screens are useless to me.
My btech uv-5x3 dose that

just watching you walk on the roof made my butt clench
Maybe you explained this already,
But why didn't you go through the pipe with the coax rather then down the side?
Was wondering about that too.
The vertical center element looks excessively long for 462 MHz unless its for frequency 151 MHz an apparent GMRS frequency on VHF.
There are no GMRS frequencies on VHF.
too close to the power lines. read the arrl hand book
ARRL = Amateur Radios Real Losers
Nice work.... 73's
WRDU802
Thank you!
It that just the conduit hanger for the mast mount?? Was gonna go with a satellite dish j pipe but it uses 1 1/4 pipe.... seems a little heavy....
Has anyone put one of these gmrs radios in an airplane a private plane?
Where's your polyphaser lightning arrestor and ground?
Charles E. Wilson He said they’re visible to lightening.
It doesn't work that way.
@@dcentral Yes as with any object they are All Visible to Lightning. 🥴👍

My power line is not a bare wire. Its insulated. You need to have confidence in your installs.

Nope. 20' above the structure its mounted to.
