Another fantastic video! Thank you!!!
Max Dean is the most season tested 197lbs.
Max Dean is nowhere near as good as his brother Gabe Dean was.
11-2! Silas was 138-2 with 134 pins out of 140 matches wrestled.
He pinned his way through entire senior season and the state finals with a combined time of 10 minutes in 4 matches! Was the most dominant state run since my Cousin bubba division did it in 95, pinning his way through in 9 minutes as a Jr.
And was ranked top 5 going into sr season before he unfortunately passed away from a Overdose
My guy Allred is pretty damn tested and is starting to perform to his pedigree, I was close with his father and my nephew was his good friend after they had the best ever state Semi finals match in years.. I'm not sure how much you know about Silas but as a 13 year old 170 pound freshman he was 50-0 #3 kid in Indiana before being upset in the ticket round of semi state.. he was skipped a grade as a kid being highly gifted , and his dad didn't believe in running from competition.. unfortunate his father lost his fight with ALS, 2 years ago, right before Silas was going to Nebraska.
Indiana is a 1 class state and a top 5 toughest state tourney in the country. as a 47-1 14 year old 182 pounder he took 5th at state..
WON FLO TITLE GOING INTO JR SEASON and put on 1 the most dominant 2 year runs one ever witnessed... not only did he go in to win state titles over his last 80 matches he only had 1 guy make it to the final whistle with him, and it was Jr year state finls match where he beat down current top 25n ranked IU 97 pounder Willham,
@@l.rongardner2150 they’re both gonna be 3X Finalists and 2X NCAA champions tho
I was at the Iowa/Minnesota dual, Iowa was in clear command and never really in doubt of losing the dual, but what struck me and not many have talked about it was, when was the last time Iowa wrestled and did not have bonus point match wins? Granted Cassioppi did not wrestle, but this is the first time I can remember the Hawks not scoring bonus point wins.
I appreciate the recap. Everyone is saying big things happened in college wrestling this weekend, but no one seems to know what, or why, or where to actually watch it myself.
I live in Columbia, MO. I have been watching Mizzou at home for about 7 years now. When I saw that Rocky was ranked #1, I didn't understand it. He gasses out, he gets really timid when he's behind, and he seems almost indifferent about losing. He doesn't have the same fire as Keegan, Spencer Lee, Daton Fix, Suriano, Mekhi Lewis, or the other top of the heap guys. He hesitates and he doesn't have their creativity. He is long, tall, and strong. Those are his strengths. He is not a ruthless fighter. The top guys are all ruthless fighters who want to collect souls.
Rocky at #1 felt wrong. I see him as a #4 or #3, maybe a #5. But #1? I have seen him wrestle a lot, he's not the best 197 in the country. He stalls too much, he doesn't go in for the kill. He's too conservative. He's too tight and rigid. He needs to open up more and relax.
Keegan O'toole does similar things as Rocky, but Keegan is creative enough to overcome adversity and he seems to have an elite level of mat awareness. Keegan also has insane flexibility and he never stops wrestling. Keegan is a murderer. He looks so nice and innocent off the mat. But as soon as he steps on the mat, he flips a switch and tries to punish his opponents for stepping on his mat. That's what a #1 looks like. Supreme confidence in his skills and an attitude of superiority because he knows he's going to win every single match. That's the mindset of a #1.
Rocky gets ahead and just looks to protect the lead. He shuts down and tries to beat the clock instead of the wrestler. That's a recipe for failure. If I can see that, so can his opponents. They keep it close, and pressure him late. That's how they beat him.
If I had to pick a 197 champ right now, I would bet my money on Dean or Cameron Caffey. The reason I pick Caffey, is that he is so close to being untouchable. If he can figure it out, he could get hot and beat everyone. I still think Dean is the favorite for the title.
you don’t know rocky you don’t know his mindset you don’t know what fuels him and you clearly don’t know how he trains pipe down champ
@@jackh7190 Are you Jacques? Your profile pic is too small for me to tell. But you kind of look like him. I would think since he's in college, he'd write in a more dignified way. So, you're probably not Jacques.
You should watch Rocky's losses then get back to me. I have seen him fall apart in person on more than one occasion.
What about you?
Why do you think he lost the matches he lost? You're so smart, educate me.
Mizzou is my team. That's why I say the things I do.
Like the career progression of Allen Hart. The growth in him has been awesome to see.
@@zombiepresident7581 i agree that elam is not the top guy at 197. however, rankings are not necessarily aligned to the "eyeball test". anyone who does rankings will tell you, you take your personal biases out and compare resumes, using records, head-to-head, common opponents, etc. an undefeated guy (of elam's stature) will usually be ranked ahead of anyone with a loss. there are exceptions to this, of course.
He was ranked #1 having only wrestled six matches on the season. Compared to most guys who are already at 15-20, I said to myself as soon as he faces someone good he's losing
You’re wrong bro it’s just his style he’s very technical and not a big point scorer. You will see at nationals, and don’t call yourself a mizzou fan
Outstanding Roundup. Good to see Starocci standing his ground. The next time they wrestle I'm picking Starocci in the 11th round. Big10 is really going to be overshadowed this year by Nationals. There's gonna be a few regular headliners but the weight for weight matchups are all over the map. I think Yanni takes Gomez in a rerun match. And I think there's gonna be an early shake up at 197. I don't think Max or Warner see anything but a wrestleback. Greg can take heavies easily if he gets a sense of urgency and wrestles like he's there for a reason.
Love your analysis, Kenneth. Nationals is going to be a heck of a lot of fun this year!
isn't gomez injured right now?
Didn’t even know battle at the ball park was a thing this year yeah they really need to do it in a relevant state like Iowa or Oklahoma I know the weather sucks but you need the college fans to make a profit from the event and fill the stands.
Still doing great work! Keep it up
Great stuff
Thanks!
The attendance hasn't been there cause Iowa isn't involved. See Grapple on the Gridiron in 2015. Over 42,000 fans in attendance. Go HAWKS!!!!
I've been saying 197 is the toughest weight.. behind 165. A lot of dark horse guys who could finally AA at nationals, guys like Owen pentz and cam caffey who've upset top ranked guys in the past
Let’s not forget Dean. He is in fire now, and until someone beats him, he is the guy to beat at 197
Yeah if I had to guess he'd be my pick. He comes in clutch when he needs to. I want Younger to win it, but Dean proved it last year!
Lee wasn’t just upset. He was dang exhausted. Same look he had when desanto beat him in states. If he don’t improve that cardio is gonna run into an issue in march.
I thought so too. He was just hanging on at the end.
Desanto only beat him because he was injured
I think the only way battle at the ballpark will get a good crowd will be getting a huge fan base to travel like an Iowa or Penn State
For sure. Plus OK State vs Iowa/Penn State would be a big dual meet in itself
@@FancoWrestling well get it started Josiah
As an die hard Hawks fan, my disappointment with Warner this season is palpable. I’ve been saying for weeks that he just doesn’t look right, and this recent loss to Foy kinda came down to him not wrestling to the whistle. I wouldn’t the least bit surprised if he doesn’t even make the podium at NCAAs.
I’m a penn state guy but I’ve always liked Warner he looks so unathlectic and weak but for years all he did is win with that said what is wrong with my guy??? Iowa wrestlers always break down towards the end of the season but he’s had a ROUGH January
I hope he picks it up in March. He certainly did last year!
Thanks for the news - looks like Penn State University is going to be dominant for a long time!
Only 7 seniors ranked in top 20, the next couple years it will by one of the toughest weight classes.
Ok St!!!!! What a weekend!!!
Go Cowboys!
Nebraska cut it close against Illinois - admittedly with a forfeit at 149, but w/out the upset against Braunagel they'd have lost.
Elam doesn't AA this year. Truax makes the finals that's my prediction for 197
Mine is Trumble...but I like Truax a lot. He could certainly be the dude to get it done.
I like your channel. I think you have to enlarge the video screen of the wrestling clips and shrink yourself down a little bit more. It's much more enjoyable to see some of the a slang with a larger screen. Just my personal thought
Noted. Thanks for the feedback, Eric!
Dean will be around at the end.
Unfortunately you're probably right, Dean has a habit of sticking around.
I'd love to see any combination of Bastida, Elam, Truax or Buchanan in the NCAA finals.
i cant wait untill someone comes along that does what you do , only better
I agree the Pitt guy should be ranked #1 but don’t be surprised if Max wins the big 10 and national title. Will be fun to see.
Cal state Bakersfield Josh brown beat Dom Demes. Brown is not even Rank at 149 talk about that
DemAS hasn't been relevant since 2019. He's like 10-8 the last two years. He's got one decent win in the last two years.
Surber and carter young have been hot lately, wrestling better than their records indicate.
It's Nino's year
You might me right, Matt! He's looking beastly!
I have a great question: Do you believe that Beau Bartlett could beat Real woods at any point this season either Big Tens or NCAAs?
Yes I think he can
All these rankings in the end mean nothing; they're subjective.. The final ranking will be when your arm is raised in the NCAA national finals........................
If you compete you will eventually lose! Gauranteed!
Mason Parris is healthy, no ones stopping him
Except Kerkvliet...as long as he gets completely healthy. He's so clearly the class of the HWTs. That size, strength and...really the athleticism is just next level. Hand should be healed by March and...that's gonna be their 5th title this year(unless Haines/Dean will be the other aside from the 3 multi time returning champs).
I mean...Parris COULD certainly win it. HWT, 157, 197, they're all toss-ups. But I think we know Kerk is just a different animal. Parris is a helluva athlete though. I could see him being a nice edge rusher. Kinda re-work his body, drop to ~2 65 while adding some muscle...or just stay the same size and play in a 43?
@@scourge8097 If both Perris and Kerkvliet are both wrestling at their best it's a toss up IMO.
It was clear to me, even as a Michigan fan, that there was something wrong with Kerkvliet when he wrestled Perris at the UM Penn St dual.
@@scourge8097 watching parris ride kerk dominant for a whole minute kinda defeats any point you could try and make how he’s number 1 lol. You can’t watch a dude get beat bad and then make a case how he’s definitely gonna beat the guy later😂 kerk has one win on parris, along with many other people last year during his dip. Sad to say it to you but parris is just back to where he was and kerk is a #2-3 level guy now with him back.
@@rhino447attack Did you say Kerk had ONE win on Parris last year "along with many other people lat year during his dip?"
Dude, if you don't know what you're talking about...just don't talk about it.
Kerkvliet beat Parris at LEAST THREE times last year and three people beat Parris. The matches to Kerk, two to Stevenson and one to Schultz. And Kerkvliet beat him worse and worse each time and has dominated him on his feet.
Those were the "many" people who beat him?
And he got beat "bad" 3-1? LOL...he was wrestling with a broken had you twit.
The CLOSEST match they had last year was when Parris got a 1st period TD, then Kerk took him down 3 more times, the last to make it 7-5 and then rode him like a donkey the rest of the way.
So yeah, I can pretty easily say that Kerkvliet is the superior Wrestler inspite of Parris winning ONE of the last 4-5 times they Wrestled there bud.
I mean, go ahead and disagree, but at LEAST have a clue what you're talking about. "The Dip...one time!"
🤣🤣🤣
@@scourge8097 dude you need to feel the touch of a woman lmao
Wrestling has got to stupid. Cael makes his kids shoot or drop from the line up. Guess what? They win everything. No other team does this. Certainly not my Buckeyes. You have 1s and 2s on other teams but 70% wont shoot. Other coaches.....get a clue
97 is crazy
Yes it is!!
197 LB is a WEAK, wide-open weight class. Where is a STUD like A..J. Ferrari when the weight class needs him?
Prison?
He’s out raping women.
@@coacho7881 😂😂😂😂 chillllll but your gd right lol
Sadly, being a bad human being it would seem. Was rooting for him to be a 5x champ.
I wouldn’t really label Ferrari a “stud.” He’d probably be the favorite but he had many close matches with the top guys, so it wasn’t like he was head and shoulders above the competition.
Stop sleeping on Max, Cobe, and Pat
Sorry, bonocorsi isn't the clear #1
He's the only undefeated guy at the weight right now. Who would you put above him? Dean?
You're right, he is undefeated. So by that standard, I guess he could be considered #1. But not a clear cut #1. And yes, right now I would put Dean ahead of him
Lol weak last ncaa champ still there
I bet Surber makes the podium this year. He's finally hitting his stride at 197 after wrestling HWT last year.
197 is a much better weight for him
Braunagel is one of those low energy guys. Good wrestler, but he seemed to give up pretty quick when he got put to his back.
Buchanon transferred to OU? Why isn't he wrestling then? Does he have to sit out a year?
