Those from the region deemed oriental have had objections to the term. Many of them are also perfumers or industry people. I think it’s okay to extend respects. So it’s not just technicality issues of being unable to explain a perfume without using the term oriental.

I have shalimar edt, is edp closer to the lion by Chanel ?

I would say that Shalimar EDP it's closer to Le Lion than the EDT version, but still different. Le Lion is more about labdanum and patchouli. Shalimar EDP is more about vanilla, with some florals and animalic notes 😉

Well, there are who consider the term "Oriental" being offensive, having colonial connotation and being viewed as cultural appropriation 😅
Personally, I find it to be a technical term only to describe a particular scent profile, with no intention of generalizing or misrepresentating the cultures it may evoke. But that's just my opinion 😊
