You pulled in in the ‘Done-zo Zone’. I’ve died there several times. Great video and great job out there…somebody is watching you!!! 👀👀👀 Thx for sharing. Let me know when AFM is heading out that way. I’d love to jump in and draft that wheel!!! 🤙🏾🤝🏾💪🏾🤪

Stay safe my dude. What I don’t like about the 8 AM Montrose Ride is how fast it is when it yo-yo’s through the traffic lights, super fast but then you still need to stop for a light, green light? Do it all again.
    Sucks for that rider.
This is a pretty spicy ride and again, so many riders on the hoods not prepared for contact, we have covered this before.
Montrose is a great place to learn how to draft. Even though you are in a pack, find a rider bigger than you and faster than you and sit in, follow Mr. Orange Socks or Mr. Yellow Shoes for as long as you can. Exercise disciplined, measured drafting even while you’re in a pack.
I kind of miss riding, and I’m kind of don’t.

@rf6934 thank you! The lights are always an issue, but I also think that it's hard to stop from high speed with such a large group. I've seen crashes from people yelling " stopping" and others yelling " rolling" and a rider gets hit from behind. The decision has to be made from the front and on the same page.

Hello. What is the app you're using for the video overlay speed, km, etc.

    • @afasterme3182

@bx_cyclingchef Telemetry for the data. I think it's a one-time fee. I also use a GoPro 11 and GoPro 8 for cameras, and premiere pro for final edits and voice over.

This was started as the Montrose club ride in 1977. When the club disbanded in 1982 it morphed into this renegade ride with no control and has gotten worse over time. It's too many people going way too fast and reckless. It's had one death and countless injuries. The median years of experiance on a bike in this close riding group might be 5 years. Not one person has a clue and it continues........

@johnadams9634 thanks for the insight. A little harsh, but I understand your point of view. I think the bigger issue is that cycling does not have a guide regarding how to safely progress from a beginner to become a safe, experienced rider. In my opinion, most experienced riders do not take the time to actually give back to the sport and add structure to the process. They will only focus on young/talented riders that they can attach themselves to in order to be known as someone that helped the next shooting star. Just my two cents.

@@afasterme3182 We tried back in the day but egos ran hot and a lot of the people we tried to help didn't want it.

@johnadams9634 I understand. It's a headache. Cycling is one of those sports that the stronger someone is, the slower they learn. And unfortunately, there are a lot of very strong beginners and that just makes it more dangerous. And to make it worse, their strength often allows them to get away with bad decisions.

Are you the John Adams that sued Steve Lubanski after your crash? No one wants to take the position as an official leader for this ride (or the Rose Bowl ride) largely because of the threat of being sued if someone makes a mistake and gets injured. Cycling is a dangerous sport. It gets more dangerous when we make the choice to ride in close proximity to others at high speed. We know this, and we accept the risks to participate. It would be nice to see a little more self-policing in the group, but the reality is that it's not going to happen. We trust each other to ride well and handle ourselves properly. As someone who started doing the Montrose Ride in the '90s, and still a frequent participant, I would say it's safer since it's been split up into multiple groups with staggered start times based on typical average speed. In my recollection, when it was one group, there were more people riding over their head. Crashes aren't a new thing here. Also, this video gives no indication about how/why this crash happened.

@efraer Get your facts strait pal. I kept him from being involved and if that's the story going around then maybe you should find out the truth. I was friends with Steve for 25 years and not happy with the way it ended. I miss our friendship.

@willisix2554 no, a person crashed and more than 20 riders stopped, including his friends. The group size is over 100. There is no need for every rider to stop.

Crash while going straight and not even racing...some high caliber riders in this group.

    • @afasterme3182
      @afasterme3182  3 дні тому

@carefulsum not a race but they were sprinting. From what I've been told, a rider pulled out of the sprint while another rider was still sprinting and clipped his wheel. The caliber of rider is mixed, but crashes can happen anywhere.

Are you familiar with the Montrose Ride, or are you making your judgement just based on this one POV that doesn’t see the actual incident take place?
