I am so happy that the original Star Trek universe is not dead and that we have such great people/actors that put their heart and effort in continuïng the series even though they aren't getting paid to do it. Just awesome, THANK YOU Tim Russ and all the great stars for keeping Star Trek alive !
good on you guys, power to you! I just finished watching all the star trek canon (over the course of a few years), and I don't think anything else on TV comes close to the portrayal of ethics and human destiny/possibility than star trek has. please treat this special show with care
Hes my fav actor out of voyager didnt know about this till tonight. But im excited they should run with it. would be great if it open doors for other voyager actors to come back and add there flair to it? is it really happening and when? the fact is the fans me included want to see some old voyager faces back on tv there still young and able.
When Tim said "Star Trek Renegades is a mission to help prevent a disaster that is coming to earth..." I seriously thought he was talking about Trekkies protecting the Star Trek name from bad episodes or movies.
I think the biggest thing that let down "Of Gods and Men" for me was the audio production, though there were a few weird angle shots as well. The audio I am talking about is to with the way the dialog is presented. In many shows, there is some sort of ambience or atmospheric loop track, whether it be music or the ship's engines, that smooths out the silences and so forth. I hope this time round there is more care taken in this regard.
Would be great if this is real good and is picked up as a series we need a new Trek series. The chances are rare sadly due to a bunch of legal crap as ive researched between companies however I support the effort 100%
and looked it up picardo is playing lewis zimmerman obviously he cant do the the hologram as its 11 years and age being the factor. but i hope we get some back story to what happened other characters from voyager. Playing walter koening as chekov don't know how that works considering the time period.
+John Cavil Remember the mirror universe episodes of Enterprise? That was awesome! Let's hope they take it into a little bit darker direction. P.S. Give me 12 evil tribbles with goatees from the Mirror Mirror universe and I can conquer the verse!
Does this mean that Tim Russ will become an executive producer on the series if it is pick up? I hope so! It will be in good hands. The last thing that Trekkies want to see is an unknown person who has no idea about the Star Trek universe.
Warp Prime 42 Saw your message to me but not sure what you mean? I love Tim Russ, he is one of my favorite actors and directors. I am a major Trekkie myself as well. Love the profile pic btw - Einstein rocks !
Part 2 will be released next week, May 2 2013. As of right now, the plan is to release one new interview clip every week. Please subscribe to my channel if you haven't already so you will be automatically notified when new clips are released. Thanks for your support!
I've got a question. One of the reasons that Next Generation is in HD and shows like DS9 and Voyager are not are because of the animation style they used for their special effects. It becomes a painstaking process to go through every frame in the entire series and give those computer-generated images an HD overhaul. My question is, are they making this project in a way that makes it becomes easier to remaster 20 years down the road?
Psionic Phazon Re-rendering the scenes for full 3D holographic emission shouldn't be difficult. these days CGI is on par with real life scenery, if done skillfully. the scene files would be easy to convert.
Thank you for the interview. I do have one very, very important question that ironically I have not heard anyone mention to Tim Russ yet, on any interview regarding the direction of Renegades, is being this is supposed to get away from the same old feel from the previous series made, my question is with all of the new "edginess", and darker side if you will, my fear and concern is if Tim was asked if Gene Rodenberry were here today, would he give his consent that this would follow his vision of what Star Trek means? After all, Star Trek was supposed to be based on family values, ethics, the human and caring side to everyone as a character. I think this really needs to be addressed.
Hi TrekBuilder, I totally agree. The last 2 films although very enjoyable seem to have missed the point of what Star Trek is about. I told a friend of mine she should let her kids watch Star Trek. "But it's all zap lasers and that sort of stuff." A half hour of explanation about the values and examples of ethical dilemmas explored and she started to understand. I really hope Tim and the others will "keep the faith".
Scotty lived via a Transporter trick. His question is incredibly valid as it put's Admiral Chekov's age at what? 130? close to 140? It's been the only hole and problem I've had with this. Otherwise this looks amazing as hell.
Pirates in the Middle Ages? I daresay he's about 500 years off! The Middle Ages ranged from around 500 A.D. to the 14th Century and the Renaissance. Privateers (the term for pirates Mr. Russ was searching for) weren't employed by crowns and nations until the 16th century.
Lexxa Singh is an awesome character by the sound of her she is a descendant of Khan nooniang soong or singh whatever awesome I never thought Khan had any dessendance
Premise: Federation bribes the Ferengi to pay off the Orions so they don't raid the Gorn type of deal. UFP has almost 200 member worlds I'm not shocked that there are "under the table deals and missions" We know from DS9 that the FED has a black op's division, even if "Section 31" fell apart.
MrAlasalle Section 31 never fell apart, it turned some of its "faces" in so that it could return the shadows like it's supposed to. Nothing is more effective in getting your opponents off your backs than making them think they've destroyed you. And OOC, the reason the "Novel-verse" writers had them be supposedly stopped in the 25th century was because of the naive outcry against their existence by fools who think that "pax" comes without "vis vires".
I stopped reading the novels after the destiny series, and how the Borg where just suffering a error in there coding till the super aliens fixed them and took them away.
The Dweeb wasn't in the "Renegades" film! Hopefully "renegades" will become a series, and we *will* get to see Wang appear as Harry Kim. And hopefully he won't be an ensign at age 40 or whatever.
eastsidebeastkidx - Pavel Checkov is there, and he's supposed to be How old? You do the math. My brain's tired, and I have to get up at oh dark thirty. (...I just realized that your comment is from eight months ago. Like I said, my brain's tired.)
If this star trek becomes a tv series it will be awesome imagine what they could do with todays technology they can do great things so if this gets to be on cbs lexxa singh will goin archer kirk Picard Sissco janeway that would be cool lexxa will be one kick ass captain since she is a descendant of Khan she has super strength and speed talk about kick ass and she is being played by the girl who played livia or eve in Xena
i hope this takes off and becomes a full show, would be nice to see more old trek and not these new crappy movies. with tim russ directing and so much old talent this project is very promising. i thought he did a great job with "living witness", perhaps that episode and the "evil" version of the voyager crew is a glimpse into the new darker series they are trying to create with renegades. great cast too (adrienne wilkinson is HOT). furlong was a weird choice though, i thought he quit acting.
i know he is a real person, i know he isn't a vulcan. I know he is just playing a role. But soon as I hear his voice, i expect at any second for shit to go down, be it some photon torpedos, some diabolical alien attack, him to break out in a pon-far, or for him to beam right out of the seat, and say how illogical I am.
that's not really true at all. They didn't put a stop to renegades, merely asked that they distance themselves from the IP, which is 100% within their legal rights. They have also let other productions continue uninterrupted, and provided guidance for fan films in general. There's no documented evidence to suggest they were annoyed that fans did a better job. That's a popular fan theory, but honestly there's only one or two that actually come close quality-wise.
It's the 24th century. You think by then life spans via medical technology won't be able to expand to live well over a century? Today there are people via good genetics and a healthy life style that can live up to over 100. By the 24th century, it should be the norm that people live that long. Unless they made a career of wearing a red shirt.
Tim Russ is a regular guy. 1972: Tim Russ & I played in a soul music band in Izmir, Turkey. There, our fathers served. His father was a USAF Officer. My father served as a Non-commissioned officer, i.e. Master Sergeant. We were just students. Tim asked me to do the genealogical research on his pre-Emancipation ancestor. www.germangenealogist.com/about-us-lynell-karl-michael-sala/
but...can't he just...put the pointy ears and that intense Vulcan I'm-concentrating-really-hard look back on? its a good look. I just watched Amistad last night. now I'm having a hard time looking at black people without crying
I'm a Sci Fi fan of just about everything and understand that each franchise has their place. Stargate has a lot of humor and heart but doesn't take itself seriously and is popcorn fun. Star Wars is mostly about what the title suggests, along with generational conflict. Star Trek was also it's own animal, and stressed that shooting wasn't always the best solution. That was Gene's dream and the soul of most of the morality plays, allegory and metaphor that made up Trek. I'm sad to say that we have a bunch of people who hopped on board after Gene Roddenberry died who are trying to take Trek down a Farscape route. Revenge, death, murder and all the other worn out plots used by any late night syfy made for tv movie. Tim Russ is trying to cash in, not continue the dream and heart of Trek. Let's be honest here, Of Gods and Men was complete crap that was insufferable to sit through. It was a B list Expendables type of has been secondary characters of trek. Renegades looks like complete crap as well with very low production value. When you see what people have done as fans in the continuation of the Original Series it's clear that these are an attempt to make a low cost cash grab, not do something that comes from the heart.
Christopher S Given that our alternative is neverending bullsh/t from outright anti-Star Trekker J.J. Abrams, I am more than happy for Tim Russ to make a cash grab, IF that's what he's doing. That said, calling the scenes like the one between Lexxa and Tuvok "complete crap as well" is ridiculous, and I'm automatically going to assume you didn't mean those parts. Finally, Gene Roddenberry's vision was a Mary Suetopia that naturally spawned characters like the famed Wesley Crusher, and gave us the numerous absolutely absurd plotlines (and off-duty fashion sense) of season 1 of TNG. The further away that TNG and DS9 moved from Roddenberry's control, the better they got, with the absolute best episodes of DS9 being those that involved Ira Steven Behr's Section 31, the people who did the grisly wetwork that let the saints live in their climate-controlled paradise and look down their noses on the rest of the galaxy. No, shooting ISN'T always the best option, but good characters actually DEVELOP, and LEARN over time, so maybe, just maybe, a Lexxa Singh (with a potential superior intellect to match that potential strength?) would do exactly that if given her own ship, or even series. That said, I have one qualm with the entire story so far, and that's naming their ship the Archer, after a captain who was basically a starry-eyed pansy for two solid seasons. Much better would've been changing only two letters, and made it the Archon, as a classic shout out to a "Return of".
This "new look" and "new direction" are so cheap and played out by every shallow B movie science fiction piece. This isn't trek, it's a bunch of actors from trek trying to cash in because most people could care less about their shows in comparison to the Original Series and Next Gen etc. Voyager was such a dud. This movie is nothing about the wagon train to the stars and the dream of Gene Roddenberry. It's sad. And don't get me started on the construction yellow starship halls and the toga bathrobe starfleet uniforms. If that's your new look, you better check out some other thrift stores for your costume dept, and perhaps spend less on hi def cams that point out exactly how cheap your thrown together production is.
+Christopher S Not a fan of the project, I take it? At least he (Tim Russ) is trying to keep Star Trek ALIVE. Perhaps you should take that under consideration before you make such a douche remarks

Good to see that Tim Russ and writers is taking care of the Star Trek canon. I want to see new series on tv again.
FINALLY A NEW SERIES!!!
LLAP! I am thrilled that some known actors work on marvelous piece of star trek history.
I can not wait to see it
Tim Russ' voice is so great.
good on you guys, power to you! I just finished watching all the star trek canon (over the course of a few years), and I don't think anything else on TV comes close to the portrayal of ethics and human destiny/possibility than star trek has. please treat this special show with care

I wish them the very best of luck, from what i've seen Tim Russ has got a great Future as a Director, i'm excited for "Renegades" bring it on.
Im excited about this! Big Voyager Fan, Im looking forward to seeing a continuation!
how the hell did i miss that, looking forward to it!
Ever since Tim's outstanding performance in Spaceballs, I've trusted him unconditionally. Bring it on!
Lol you can totally tell this is Tim Russ,s house, I like the style

Hymm this gives me more hope for that project
Need more trek in our lives
He's aging well! Without the grey hair, he would look the same as how he looked when Picard kicked his ass in TNG.
hope it is dark and gritty and full of action
I can't wait for this movie! But im a but worried about this "new look and feel", not sure how different it will be.
and looked it up picardo is playing lewis zimmerman obviously he cant do the the hologram as its 11 years and age being the factor. but i hope we get some back story to what happened other characters from voyager. Playing walter koening as chekov don't know how that works considering the time period.
God I hope this gets off the ground. Love the new, dark, nitty gritty look and Star Trek needs to go in this direction.
+John Cavil Remember the mirror universe episodes of Enterprise? That was awesome! Let's hope they take it into a little bit darker direction.

You mean an unknown person like JJ Abrams?
I wish you luck, success, and joy in doing what you love. :)

Damm it Jim!!! Star Trek has to come back on tv !!!!!
Scotty is alive in the latter half of the 24th century. As matter of a fact, he was on a TNG epidode
Where's part 2?
Please get Avery Brooks and Michael Dorn and Robert Beltran onboard.
Scotty lived via a Transporter trick. His question is incredibly valid as it put's Admiral Chekov's age at what? 130? close to 140? It's been the only hole and problem I've had with this. Otherwise this looks amazing as hell.
It would be nice it Netflix funded it.
I wish CBS had supported you guys from start instead of going with those crappy Abrams movies...
I know, these movies are so incredibly bad! Visually and storywise extremely decepting. CBS has no clue what Trek Fans want...
So, Lexxa Singh...Federation Privateer? That would be nothing less than epic.
ST:Renegades sounds a lot like Section 31 from DS9... wonder if there is any connection there...
EDIT: Nope, privateers. Space privateers. Super cool.
I really like the premise behind this, kinda of a Section 31 to a certain degree but not. Anything that is being created, is awesome.
Pirates in the Middle Ages? I daresay he's about 500 years off! The Middle Ages ranged from around 500 A.D. to the 14th Century and the Renaissance. Privateers (the term for pirates Mr. Russ was searching for) weren't employed by crowns and nations until the 16th century.
not sure who you're talking to, but there definitely were pirates in the middle ages, just not the cross & bones types. but there was LOTS
Hard for me not to think of him combing the desert with an afro pick and not finding shit.

th etrue line of star trek reborn
