Yes, exactly. Because , Piquet is part of the generation that have loosed one or two driver ( if not more) each season thru late 70s and early 80s. Acting like Senna or Schumacher ( both never lived thru that era , arrived after) in certain circumstances would directly mean putting somebody's life in direct danger or jeopardy. And that's I believe why the drivers in the 60/70 and early 80 acted different. Thank you bro, as a brazillian, piquet is very technical how a driver, and have a lot of things that he said that is truth. Like lauda, and every racers that had in old age.
While I don't get into the finer details of someone's personality other than F1 drivers have to be bastards in order to get by - this video is a great illustration of what it takes, even if there will be some who will complain about the phrasing - motorsport is do-or-die and you have to be ruthless or you''re a goner - either you don't have a contract or you could be dead as a consequence.
Mika Hakkinen was not a bastard or ruthless as you put it, and he got by fine as you put it. Same with Button and some others. World champions without being bastards. So explain that
@@RIUUI007 I think that the answer would be that every driver is different, one driver technique would not work on other. Mikka, Prost, piquet and Lauda where all very intelligent drivers, they would calculate the danger, the risk before making a move, in other hand you have Senna and Schumacher that where very aggressive. Once one Mexican Ex Mclaren Mecanic said that when Prost and Senna were teammates, Prost that was gentil on the car and was very calculative, would come back with the car after the race, you could basically refuel, clean the car and move the car for next race, while Senna's car ways completely done, the engine, the gearbox was almost fuck up. That is a very good illustration of the kind of drivers that those were.

Brilliant countersteering driving by Piquet. Senna was brutal when driving. Intimidating, like you let me trough or we crash both. Ask Martin Brundle or Jacky Stewart. Schumacher and Verstappen have the same attitude and that's why they were/are so successfully. Senna best season was IMO in 1993 finishing second to Prost who was driving the superior Williams car. There he showed all his mastery and talented driver skills with a underpowered McLaren. Wished he had gone to Ferrari instead of the very unstable Williams cars.

I think a lot of people are missing the point here. As always, Piquet doesn’t miss the chance of poking at Senna, but at the end he is lowkey admitting that being able to act like what he called “dirty” is actually necessary in order to be a champion; cause you’re inevitably gonna be put in agonistic, fight-to-survive type of situations and you’re going to need to be able to be aggressive to win.

He speaks the truth; but only half truth. He named Senna & Schumacher; has nothing to say about his daughter's boyfriend, Max Verstappen. Also, Nelson himself was famous for being the cunning driver of his era. No wonder Alain Prost was ready to accept Ayrton as a teammate compared to Nelson when given a choice in 1989.
That thing Senna did to Piquet at Hungary its the same Schumacher did to Barrichello in 2010. But somehow everyone forgets how dirty as a driver was Ayrton.
Dissenting views are important, especially with regard to guys like Senna. I don't much care for Piquet and definitely regard Ayrton as the superior driver, but the man wasn't perfect.
@alexjohnward He lacks empathy. I recall he criticised Prost for going to Ayrton's funeral ( because of the fued they had when they were racing against each other ) and then in the same breath, for the next 5 minutes justifying why he didn't attend and that they were not friends. Criticizing Prost's decision to attend the funeral while justifying his own absence was a very disrespectful thing to do.
No, because he has always lived in a bubble thinking that he is the best driver of all time, above anyone. A guy who always lived in fear of how Ayrton Senna little by little left him behind as the best, it's a shame that he left us without being able to show it to the world.

stop whining, Senna was really a dirty racer, and all adequate people admit it. No one has ever had so many dirty attack maneuvers in history. only Senna could, for no reason, arrange a senseless accident with lapped car on the last lap, you see, lapped car did not let Senna go ahead right away, and now he is offended and decided to attack madly. These are the words from a “F1 World Champion?” who NEVER demonstrated any skill or ability while driving a non-competitive car. In 1993 Ayrton Senna won 5 Grand Prix in a car that was non-competitive; many stated that in 1993 the McLaren was the third best car with Williams and Benetton being above, in reality it was the skill and magic of Senna who elevated the status of that car. Por favor, senhor Piquet, espero que algum dia você seja mais humilde, respeitoso e tenha juízo porque tem idade para isso.
The car was obviously competitive lol. Senna wouldn’t have got so close to Prost in a non competitive car . He lost twice to him on points in the same car for example. Andretti was so poor it was hard to tell exactly how good the car was but it certainly wasn’t competitive 😂 it was certainly faster than the Benetton too!
@@scottyg22102938 As James Hunt said on the broadcasts “The only reason reason why McLaren is where it is, it’s because of Senna.” Senna won 40% of all races that he started in a McLaren, even Ron Dennis said that it’s an impressive statistic. When did Prost lose out on the championship twice? In 1990 in Japan? During that season the pole sitter was given the choice on what side of the track that he wanted to start on, Mr. Jean Ballestre denied Senna that opportunity in Japan without explanation. There’s a UA-cam video with James Hunt and Murray Walker where James Hunt places the blame on those coming togethers on Prost. Is the other time that you state that Prost lost the title because of Senna at Monaco in 1984? First of all, he lost the title by half a point due to his own volition because he wanted the race stopped as it was by Jackie Iyqx, Ballestre and company Ltd. Funny that they stopped the race that year at Monaco and the same figures didn’t do the same the following year at Portugal? At Monaco there was only one place on the track where some aquaplaning occurred whereas in Portugal there were many spots on the track where it was evident; even on the start/finish straight where Prost lost the back end of the car and crashed. You can teach me about F1 after 1994 and up to now however you probably didn’t wear short pants when myself and many others saw F1 races in person and on television. Are you aware for example that in the 1970’s the BBC didn’t send Murray Walker to many countries where the race was being held and that he did the commentating while watching the race on television? You mentioned Andretti; the comments he made in his brief time in F1 were puzzling to say the least….”In F1 the braking distances are halved”….”Standing starts place huge forces on the clutch.” Andretti went to F1 extremely arrogant and ignorant; he did very little testing because the title of Indy car champ went to his head, only after the fourth race did he stay in Europe otherwise he flew back to America after the race was over. Besides Senna who didn’t Piquet have altercations with. Watch a few of those races and you’ll see the evidence of a non-sportsmanship live on television. By the way, I find it interesting that during that era Prost is the only champion to have never been disqualified from a race after the results…his car was never underweight?…alterations to his car were always within the rules?…he never passed with yellow flags waving in front of him as was the case at Donington 1993?…his comments to the media were always non-partisan and non-biased?

While I don't get into the finer details of someone's personality other than F1 drivers have to be bastards in order to get by - this video is a great illustration of what it takes, even if there will be some who will complain about the phrasing - motorsport is do-or-die and you have to be ruthless or you''re a goner - either you don't have a contract or you could be dead as a consequence.

I don't like Piquet as a person, very disrespectful guy based on what he's said about Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell. Senna only once took another driver out deliberately (Prost Japan 1990) but it was fully justified as payback for Prost doing exactly the same thing at the same place 1 year earlier in 1989. All other crashes were racing accidents. Schumacher was a little bit dirty but not much - the only really disgraceful acts were hitting Villeneuve at Jerez 97 and parking his car at Monaco 2006 - everything else was tough but within acceptable norms. 2 faux-pass in 16 years is an acceptable rate considering his huge achievements.

Your 3rd error, Senna was outstanding under pressure - never flinched - classic example Monaco 92 when he held off Mansell who was swarmimg like a pack of bees all over him in a car 3 seconds faster - Senna was calm as a Hindu cow and placed the car perfectly everywhere to prevent Mansell passing. You are in fact completey clueless and I suggest stop talking about the sport as you simply have no idea. LOL
I don't see how its dirty to defend the racing line and coerce the other driver to the dirty line lol
Bizarre to focus on that as an element of dirty driving.
Schumacher is another story though but Senna spoke the language of racecraft he just took the law into his own hands sometimes vs Prost in the end it was an eye for an eye so people who say Senna was dirty don't really understand.
Piquet was a jealous toad
Nelson Piquet is still bringing up that old story of calling Senna a 'dirty driver.' But anyone who truly understands racing knows that Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher drove at the limits of excellence. Dirty? Or just too brilliant to be understood? The truth is, legends don’t play dirty-they play to win! Piquet can have his opinion, but the legacy of Senna and Schumacher speaks for itself. They inspired the world, and that's something that can’t be erased
No, they didn't drove at limits, they were (Schumaher especially) outright dirty.
Senna>Piquet
Only one is alive…
By a long way
Not for long - everyone dies soon.@@gabrielzanoni3474
You can literally see on this video, who is the better driver by a far margin, and it's not Senna, is it
@@francouz23 Senna>Schumi>Piquet
Let’s pretend choir boy Piquet didn’t drive around during Q sessions spilling oil on the track so others couldn’t beat him.
Senna....dead, Schumacher......pretty much dead. Coincidence??
God's plan
Karma.
Alot of butt hurt senna fan boys here😅
He was a driver not a fucking pilot! Call things what they are!
People give Nelson a lot of shit. A lot of it is warranted. But we also have to remember that Nelson has had a few traumatic brain injuries. He hit his head badly at Imola at the same corner Senna died in.
Piquet hit his head into the wall at Indianapolis when he shattered his leg.
What does it have to do with Senna`s dirty driving .
Piquet is a legend, people don't like him because he isn't fake like the others
It's because he doesn't think before he speaks.
I see we have a few "widows" on her, spouting their nonsense as usual.
Fact - Senna was dirty. There are numerous examples. He was prepared to push drivers on to the dirty line, the grass or into a wall. That isn't skill or courage - that's automotive thuggery which anyone can do.
Better drivers (better men) like Piquet, Prost, hell, even Mansell, didn't have to resort to that. I celebrated 30 years ago today that the filthiest driver in Grand Prix history had finally been stopped before he took some innocent driver or bystander with him.
Nelson, as always, speaks the truth that others daren't.
I dont like piquet.i admire senna.
Pode me criticar Shumacher ta pagando o preço
Preço de de que ?😂
E o Senna já pagou pelas suas palavras
Piquet always speaks the truth. You like him or not he's honest as hell.
You have to be dirty just up to the point of being unsporting. It’s not a gentleman’s sport. As long as you’re not ramming people
