Nice Review! I'm not a drummer, I'm the artist, front man, book the shows, drive the bus and this kit has simplified life for all of us immensely! I bought this kit in the color Safari for my drummers. I tour with 4 different drummers (players have multiple projects). I wanted to #1 have as much of a consistent drum sound each night regardless who was on stage with me, and #2 wanted to save space in the bus so band had space to relax a little on the way to the shows.. I did upgrade the heads, put on Evans heads on. We use a Soundcraft UI 24r, and with the same drum mics each show and the saved scenes on the UI 24r, this has been a fantastic investment! At first a couple of the drummers were skeptical and of course they'd prefer the larger bass drum but overall they've come to really enjoy it's ease of use and quality and the extra space in the bus.. Highly recommend for any road band, brilliant for any band leader, singer who wants to have consistent high quality drum sounds behind him every night on stage!
Great sizes. I’ve recently bought one for both the smaller sizes and the natural wood finish is the exact same as my Pearl DLX kit so I can mix and match the floor toms. I love the sound you get off the floor Tom-incidentally,I’ve removed the snare off the floor Tom,it’s not much use or advantage to me. I may change the heads to remo on stripe laminate heads. I’ve had 2 kits before with 20” bass drums so I’m used to that size of bass drum.
Hi I’m currently trying to decide between the small Yamaha and Tama drum kits (their names are quite similar, which adds to the confusion!). I’d like some advice, especially when it comes to the bass drum/kick. In your opinion, which kick is better for funk - the Yamaha or the Tama? Specifically, I’m looking for something with punch and attack that works well for funk grooves. My concern is that the Tama kick might feel a bit too "thuddy" and lack the sharp, focused attack and clarity that funk often requires. were you doing gigs where you were playing full on rock stuff? ACDC, Zeppelin, that kinda stuff? I know these aren't made for that but wondering if you could make it work with these if you needed.
hi - for the bassdrum a gewa sps 20“x08“ woofer bag. for the snare and tom a 14“x14“ ahead armor case. for the smal tom i use the smalles ahead armor case with 10“ diameter.
Any drum company that doesn't understand memory locks are important on tom arms can kiss it. Who wants to setup and adjust and adjust and adjust when on stage. Yamaha can kiss it.
I agree, but you can just get a memory lock for $7 on Sweetwater or wherever you get music stuff from. Included memory locks are great, but not a deal breaker for me.

Great review! I've been using the Yamaha Crossroads hardware for two years now, it was an absolute game changer for sure.
Any chance of explaining in detail your tom tuning, head section, dampening, etc?

Hey!! can You tell me what frequency(hz) your drums are tuned to at 0:25 of the video(snare, 1st tom, 2nd, 3rd and kick) or what note?

@dumpster_mcgee_96 You can do that but what about the tom mount doesn't have a notch for the memory lock. There's the other problem.
