My thing about these type of rankings is what do they use to rank pitchers and hitters together? Hitters and pitchers have totally different skill sets so how do they rank them together?
4:01 it’s probably one of the few things I agree with on this list. Yamamoto was nasty in the NPB and the WBC. He’s right behind Roki Sasaki for pitcher coming out of Japan in the next few years.
Yeah, when you look at how Yamamoto compared to Senga in the npb and his pitch metrics/mechanics, only having him one above senga is a conservative estimate. What would have actually made no sense is if Yamamoto was below him in the rankings.
Im a very biased Braves fan. That said, Acuna very well may be the most talented baseball player we've seen in quite some time. He's a physical freak, he's 5 tool, and he's an athlete you can't keep your eyes off. Great for the game.
Acuña had a 40 70 season with a .337 batting average so he has to be better than judge. I also think Ohtani is a better hitter than Yordan Alvarez because he had the highest OPS in MLB.
They put Trout at 12 and Shohei at 4 due to injury concerns... all while Shohei just had Tommy John AGAIN. What??? My top 5 are Shohei, Trout, Mookie, Acuña, Judge. Soto just misses at 6.
Well, he can win MVP with his bat alone in the AL...NL is a different question with the stolen bases also factored in. I just wanna know who's gonna steal MVP away from Judge now?
@@elasmojones no? He pitched 132 innings my guy, no he didn’t qualify but that’s still a very significant amount of value from his performance on the mound. And if ohtani didn’t get mvp I’d say it should go to seager, not tucker.
Sorry Fuzzy you are wrong. There is no world where Yamamoto not ahead of Senga. Have you tried to compare their NPB stats? Yamamoto is leagues ahead. This is the result of them nerfing Yamamoto's ranking since he hasn't yet pitched in the majors. In reality he probably should be top 30 or 40, at least. Oh and I'm a Mets fan.
Fuzzy, Mike Trout barely played half of the season in 2023. He hasn’t played more than 120 games in a year since COVID-19 started. With that in mind, you can’t put him into the top ten.
If you were going to rank players in terms of impact they will make next year, I can definitely see knocking Ohtani back (and he's literally the only reason I pay attention to MLB at all). He'll have to break some batting records to be the #1 impact player next year, I think. So possibly, but not that likely IMHO. That would explain the higher ranking of certain pitchers as well. Even if they have less games played, they can have an outsized effect on the performance of a team. In the extreme, if a pitcher could guarantee a win, it's only 20% of games won. However, you get to choose which 20%. So it's not just about how good the pitcher is, but also about whether or not the team is good enough to benefit from that pitcher. But, yeah, I don't think they are thinking about it to that extent. Or, honestly, to any extent.
@DodgerFan15 Acuna has more tools and is way more talented than Judge. If Acuna knew how to track balls better in the OF he'd be miles ahead of Arson Judge lmao.
Why is someone who's never pitched an MLB game (Yamamoto) ranked higher than 2 hall of fame pitchers (Verlander and Kershaw)? Why is JV down so low? Why is Kersh not even on the list? Disgraceful
Dbacks slander from the MLB continues… one of my biggest beef with professional sports is big market bias. Marte broke the record for most consecutive playoff base hits on his way to the World Series and he’s in the 60s?
Ohtani is definitely equal to or exceeds Alvarez as a hitter. Alvarez was in a stacked lineup, doesn’t do triples nor steals a bag. Averages are comparable but Ohtani’s power numbers are better.
Ohtani is definitely not close to Alvarez. Ohtani had one huge outlier season in his career so far, that’s not enough to say he’s better. There’s over a 15 point difference in career ops+ between them.
@@noodler5583 Not close? 😂😂😂 So three years in a row are outliers? Clown statement. Look at their last 3 years and run the numbers. Ohtani has the better numbers and didn’t have to be told the pitch before swinging either.
Ohtani isn't 4th because of injury concerns. He's 4th because he's not pitching this year. If he was pitching then he'd be #1...but as a DH only, #4 is fair.
@@FuzzyFromYT Who said anything about 2022? Also, if we apply this same logic to some of the rankings, guys like Webb and Gallen are better than Snell. Would you take them over him? Ohtani was better in all triple crown stats, OPS, OPS+, WRC+, stole more bases, and had more FWAR last season than Alvarez. Also, even though he underwent elbow surgery, still played nearly 20 more games than the glass cannon, Alvarez. He's the better hitter right now.
Fuzzy l take Mike trout over everyone too😂. Man , l hope he stays healthy, then win mvp and show everyone why he's still one of the best players in baseball.
How many years until we can say trout isnt that guy anymore? Just because people automatically put him in the hof already, which he's not. Doesnt mean you cant logically see that he cant stay healthy.
If this list is purely a projection for 2024, then Ohtani being 4 is fine. If you had to bet on who you thought would get to 8 WAR this year... I think you go Acuna and Betts every time over a DH only Shohei.
I understand both Nolan Arenado and Goldy regressed,v but they didn't have bad years by any means. Just because for the first time in their careers they weren't blowing away everyone else at their position they got absolutely smoked in any ranking system? Goldschmidt is just as good and in my opinion a little better than Freddy Freeman (or atleast he has been/ time will tell) and Nolan Arenado is the greatest third baseman baseball has ever seen. This list is abysmal to begin with but I don't think that snub is being talked about enough.
people dont seem to realize that Ohtani's bat was the best in the MLB last season. There is no way that Acuna's mid to bad defense and stolen base total is enough to make him better
@fewny2691 BTW, Acuña's not better due to his stolen bases. He's better due to setting records and creating clubs that even guys like Ohtani will only dream about being a member of👌🏻🥱

1. Ohtani
2. Judge
3. Acuña
4. Betts
5. Trout
W Ohtani W Mookie
6. Freddie Freeman

judge is 1 this year because he is a better hitter than ohtani but if he comes back as half the pitcher he was he is number 1

Yamamoto was a much better pitcher than Senga in NPB, that’s why they ranked him higher
honestly its hard to compare pitchers and position players. they need to be on different list

Ke'Bryan Hayes being left off was outrageous
